The video of the weigh in and the video of the fight are two different matches; the black woman was in both videos but those are two different white women.
Based on that kick she threw I think she has at least some experience, maybe in taekwondo. I've seen that some people who do that sport can be super light on boxing skills and I think she was overthinking that aspect of the fight and ate that easy kick.
I, soft pudgy noodle, asked a friend who's been doing kickboxing (now MMA) all his life, if we could try to spar. He just headlocked me in two seconds and I hung there like a cat at the vet about to get a vaccine.
Is it just me, or do fighters that talk the most shit almost always end up with their asses beat? Or is it just their shit talking makes them incredibly memeable?
They're boxers, people who decided "hey, I want to make a career out of a sport whose explicit purpose is to cause brain damage in other people". They are automatically assholes, and they all lose in the end. I just wish they'd do so while destitute and not attract youth into thinking it's a good way to make money.
She didn't have to say a word. If I see you walk into a weigh in with a bbl, I'm gonna assume you didn't have the work ethic and discipline to get in shape, and I'm gonna assume the same about your mma training.
I don't see this as karma, not unless there's like, an event of them showing bad sportsmanship at a meet or during the match or something. It IS quite funny though.
To all those commenters who have never done any martial arts - getting knocked out (or at least simply beaten up) now and then is part of the sport and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone who competes has had this experience. It takes serious guts to step into the ring and should warrant some respect. The vast majority of martial artists are humble, hard working people.
Respect for being 'brave' enough to suffer repeat concussion and wreck what little cognitive abilities you have? To achieve what? The admiration of people when you inflict damage on someone else instead? If you genuinely don't care about the consequences, fine, but don't demand respect.
If combat sports aren't your cup of tea that's fine, but there is zero reason to say these fighters aren't achieving anything of worth just because their achievements don't resonate with you personally. They've all put in the hard work and effort, the same as any other athlete.
Sure, but if you're going to talk shit about how "violence brings you peace" and that nobody's going to beat on you, or whatnot, people are probably going to ridicule you for your braggadocio when you get knocked out.
People aren't ragging on her for getting knocked out, it's the tough talk beforehand and what looks like a very short fight. It's the "all bark, no bite" paradigm. Most people might not have done martial arts, but everyone has dealt with someone who talked a big game but couldn't back it up. The disdain for someone doing that is near universal. That said, her tough talk was pretty mild compared to some of what I have heard. She at least wasn't putting her opponent down.
Another thing most competing martial artists do is talk tough before a fight. You're encouraged to do so precisely because it makes people wanna see the fight. And her "tough talk" wasn't aggressive or arrogant.
Most fights I have seen promos for have a "talker" and a "stoneface/stoic" from my experience. Usually one person to talk a bunch of smack and play the heel and one person to be silent and inoffensive so any audience can root for them. I don't watch a lot of martial arts fights, but I know if both were doing the heel bit I would tune out. In her specific case I would agree that it wasn't aggressive, but given how short the fight is presented arrogant would be an accurate descriptor.
Yeah obv. My point is, most everyone competing in full contact gets knocked on their ass now and then. The way people are commenting here they make it seem like she's some great loser. She's the loser of this particular fight, sure, but that's it.
Exactly. This is how careers are fueled and fights are sold. It's a sport with a very small pool of competitive participants compared to other popular sports. Getting a fight that can bring attention means you've been dedicated (which requires taking beatings). Unfortunately there's a pro-wrestling aspect where you need a white hat/black hat persona
As others said it wasn't just getting knocked out. She got completely ass-whooped quickly in just a few seconds. She has no place in competitive matches if she can't last more than just a few seconds. She talked trash and then got her ass kicked hard and fast.
my guess is small pond syndrome, her local gym she was the meanest, most ripped woman there. Getting out of that, you find out that just being able to grate cheese isn't enough to win even semi-pro.
no doubt, and talking shit is part of the game, this isn't even objectionable shit talking, but I can't help but be struck by how bad a fighter she is in this clip despite being in fantastic shape. Like her training was in some other sport.
I wasn't dude. She doesn't look like she's there to fight at all. I hear ya about it being a short clip but it's long enough to get knocked out which is why ya wouldn't be for even three seconds.

We do not claim her

and she was saying that shit in another clip over top of that, really hard to get good context on this one

Well she got a fat ass.

She's not fat - she's big-boned!

Violence sure brought her peace, all right. She got put to sleep.

After that kick landed, the way she turned away as “tough chick” timbered was ice cold

I know looks are deceiving, but that kick didn't even look THAT powerful.

Ever see bully beatdown, by mayhem miller. That’s average people (bullies) vs mma fighters. Normies really had zero chance.
7thor8thcaw
Not sure why you're down voted on that one. That's completely true. Even tough regular people will get fucked up by professionals.
johnxbear
Always love it when the big talker gets smacked
StellaMatutina
Which is why you don't follow combat sports. it's about a 50-50 spread as every athlete knows
MoonBoots92
That and watching premature celebrators getting 2nd bc they were too busy being a showboating douche
WeeemRCB
True, but they all do it. I've never heard a fighter say, "meh, I'll have a go. Fingers crossed eh? lull"

If they're assholes, I'm glad if they lose. Don't care about any ifs and hows and whys and buts.

You can't tell if they're an asshole. This is like a persona you put on, it's not the real self.
twsx
If your persona is to act like an asshole, guess what, you're just an asshole.
realizedagain
I mean, no. You have to judge the whole person, not just the persona they have to use at work.

This is incredibly silly victim-blaming. Men are raised in toxic masculinity, they don't just decide to do this shit on their own.

Trash talk and unsportsmenlike behaviour still shows assholes are assholes. And arseholes getting knocked out is just more fun
NiftyGoblin
She was show boating, thats why people are talking crap. If she were humble they'd be trying to talk her up and uplift her. No one likes a showboat

Ronda Rousey couldn’t handle losing. First time she did basically sent her into retirement.

I mean, she talked shit to her opponent. I'm absolutely going to be more critical of her form than I would have beforehand.
idiotsonfire
She makes a kick that's too high, misses, then throws a jab, without closing the distance, after her opponent shuffled back to dodge?
idiotsonfire
Why? What could have convinced her dropping her guard like that was a good idea? She defeated herself. She basically threw the fight.
akafluffy
When I started martial arts, the discipline required really helped me not be a little shit outside the ring as well as in.

Maybe that's why I'm not really into fighting. I find that shit obnoxious. I enjoy the clips I've seen of the fighters being goofy before a fight.
BoboTheIceMan
Like the selfy guy.

Generally getting knocked out means they lost though. Usually folks don't enter those fights to lose. Just saying.
AGrammeIsBetterThanADamn
this just in: people enter competitions in an attempt to win them
