How things are going in Texas…

Aug 14, 2025 2:57 PM

Whelp, it’s back to school season and courtesy of our local news channel, here’s the latest of new laws for Texas. Folks will of course have differing opinions on these, but I really just want to highlight the disconnect of “freedom” that we often hear cited, and what that means, as it seems to apply selectively. Of course, that’s probably of no surprise to many of you. But anyway, what’s y’all’s take on this?

Little devasto's school *specifically* allowed students to carry cell phones because of what happened in Uvalde...

But guns and police in your school environment are still a mainstay...so yay for maintaining active shooter drills and the school-to-prison pipeline!!!!

1 of the 10 Commandments should be: Thou shalt not obey a false Dictator that's a Fucking Pedophile.

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Needs to just be shortened to "Thou shalt Burn Rapists alive"

The bit about the pedo isn't in there, but there is a commandment about false prophets.

That’s literally number 2

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I would rip up the commandments if I ever walked into a classroom and they were "mandated" to be on the wall. Probably burn them too...

This makes me very sad as a math educator, b/c the commandment thing (any religious nonsense for that matter) is a hard line for me, and I would be out of there. I fear that many teachers feel likewise and will head for the hills, leaving even fewer to teach critical thinking, free thought, and encourage students to engage in discourse to help them develop their own ideas and perspectives.

Seems like when the govt bans DEI that they are violating the First Ammendment. The govt isn't allowed to supress expression. They can't endorse it either.

We're fucked

Certain food additive are banned from the free or reduced school lunches? I love how they're framing this as a 'healthy food' choice, but they're simply letting everyone else have those unhealthy foods. Why not just get them off the market entirely if they're so unhealthy?

Makes perfect sense, can't have them taking footage or audio of the school shooter and the cops sitting on Tinder outside.

Don't worry. If something happens they can just pray. It'll be as much help as the cops.

I'm sure the cell phone ban will help the next time a Texas school starts getting shot up. They should install RF blockers to make sure kids can't call for help.

Wonder what the actual wording on that ban on 'teaching of gender identity and sexual orientation', because I feel like a lot of politicians could be easily baited into lecturing on what it means to 'be a man' and the whole 'being straight and raising a family' thing...

And is there an OFFICIAL 16x20 poster for the 10 commandments? Or are schools allowed to make their own and provide examples of how politicians are observed breaking them? You know, for educational reasons?

The previous times versions of this have been tried, they had to quickly backtrack. Florida wanted to ban "gender identity" and "sexual orientation" so school librarians removed every book including gendered characters or romantic couples, ie: every book. Photos of empty shelves flooded social media. Little-Boots was big-mad.

Let me point out at tis point that not even one of the Ten Commandments mentions Jesus, the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit, or the Trinity, but the four first Commandments tell us that Jehovah is the most important God, that making graven images is forbidden and saying mean things about God is prohibited, and that God must be honored on the seventh day.

There is zero proof that the number of Hebrews that escaped slavery in Egypt is accurate, or that it ever happened. according to both Egyptian and Israeli archeologists.

Fuck the Church of Satan.

The Satanic Temple should post the Seven Fundamental Tenets in every school:

My question stands.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, sure, why not?

I used to believe in the US Constitution (until its ineffectual checks and balances proved unable to even slow down a totalitarian dictator), and I was a fan of the 1st Amendment, that all religions are equal under the law, no matter how silly (all of them are silly).
