I mean ... I get it ... He knows how hard the life is. He knows how much of a toll it takes on a family, and the kind of sacrifices a family may need to make in order for everything to work out. He wants his kid to have an easier life than that.
Might not be the best way to go about communicating that point, but ultimately, isn't that what ALL parents want for their kids?

Explain how that relates to this instance? The guy IS a roughneck. He doesn’t want his daughter to be with someone /like him/. That’s kind of the exact fucking opposite of “I’m the best.” It’s quite literally “you deserve better than someone exactly like me.”

Too mature of an actress to play the daughter of a character his age. Also didn't resemble him in any way, which is always a helpful thing when casting parent/child combos.

Physically yes, she is 22 years younger than Bruce Willis. Maturity-wise, she was playing a character who (aside from the Romeo-and-Juliet relationship with Ben Affleck's character) acted like she was maybe 5 years younger, if that. And she's pretty consistent about playing more Mature characters.

Isnt that the character. The mother died so she raised herself on oil rigs with her dad. Which is why she knows the issues with being involved with the lifestyle and why he should listen to his daughter.

I don't like her in LOTR either, I think she was miscast. So many people think she's the perfect Arwen and I just don't see it at all. I like her in other stuff, but not that.

As someone who watcher lotr for the first time last Christmas, it's a nostalgia thing for people who saw it when they were younger I think. My wife argued with me the first time I brought it up and now she's on my side lol
