Please don't lose hope! My partner was out of work almost a year before he landed an amazing job that treats him so much better than his last one ever did. I know how difficult and disheartening it is but please keep trying.
Just starting to settle into a new job after 6 months unemployed. Keep your head up. I was turned down by a position I really wanted and immediately something as good came through.
I'm currently commenting from the job I got after 6 months of being unemployed and actively searching. It can really suck constantly feeling like you're getting auto-rejected by AI, but hang in there. Most of the places rejecting you probably suck anyways.
Rejection sucks. You are more resilient than all the rejections you are facing. Those jobs are not meant for you. The job you are meant for is coming for you. Have patience. Have faith. You will get the right job for you!!
I have been out of work since March. Had two real job interviews, one that ghosted me, and one that told me today that they are moving with someone else. I also had one interview that claimed to be for data entry, and then took my license and social security information in a scam. It has been a rough 2025, but I know you will land somewhere good. Keep the faith, my friend.
Tailor your CV to the job, lot of places use automated systems to check submissions for buzzwords, formatting, etc. Relevant details, bullet points showing motivation helps, previous experience/experience in similar work so there's transferrable skills. Ask questions when rejected. Push to get details on why they didn't take you. A generic answer is standard fare, but some might give you points you can work on, or might rethink their take seeing you're willing to explore "personal improvement".
It took me 6 to find a job last time I went through it. No lie, I was hurting by the end. Also no lie, I’m in a much better place now. Hang in there. Don’t let the bastards get you down. Things will get better
Took me 6 and the best I could manage was a rehire at the place I was laid off from. I don't know how to do all this AI interview shit or write a resume that AI HR will forward. Market sucks out there
I was literally disqualified from one position for wearing glasses because the AI couldn't see my pupils/irises in the reflection. Had the recruiter not told me I still wouldn't know AND there was no second chance to redo it, I just lost the opportunity.
Hope things get better. If it helps earlier this year I got turned down for my own job (fixed term contract, they decided to go with someone cheaper instead of renewing). Then after a tonne of rejections I put in a longshot application for somewhere I thought was out of my league. I start there next month, with more pay and more time off. Meanwhile my soon to be former employer hasn't been able to recruit enough staff to replace those leaving.
A lot of people are paying less and expecting more because, AI! As a developer fuck AI and the salesmen selling it that don't even know what the fuck it is.
I always call to 'introduce myself' after applying on someshit like indeed. It's not the worst trick, gives you a chance to show you're actually interested and not just filling out for your UE benefits checklist, and sometimes they'll do a soft interview right there on the phone if they're not busy.
Also take chances on roles you don't know if you'd be a fit for just based on your previous experience. You never know what they're exactly trying to find, and personality and fit might be more important to them.
“Just not for us” can mean two things: We will not be giving a salary that will keep you with us for the long term, or: you don’t have what we’re looking for, but we couldn’t legally list that in the job listing.
There also "you listed a disability/undesirable race or gender and we won't hire you because of that but we won't out-right say it 'cuz we don't wanna get sued"
Yea thats becoming common more and more idk why they they do it like my job only needs at maximum 6 yet the owner of the company still wants my manager to post ads for the job which causes more problems because it's not full time so when the people see the job posting they complain to the manager asking why they are hiring when they need the hours and the manager has to explain the owner told them to.
There should be a law that if you post an ad you have to hire someone because it's ridiculous
the second one is a biggie. a lot of companies these days, especially in tech, love to bray about "culture fit" and use tests as part of the hiring process to determine whether a candidate "fits." in reality, it just gives them a process and documentation so they can give a plausible excuse for not hiring someone instead of having to admit "we didn't hire them because they're brown/a woman/went to a public college." so you end up with a company where everyone thinks the exact same fucking way
I agree with that completely. it's indicative of overthink, like they think they can find some process that magically identifies the single best candidate. the truth is it doesn't matter how many rounds you do, you're always going to end up with 2-3 people you'd love to hire, and it's pretty much a coin flip to decide which you offer the job to. if you don't have all the info you need after two rounds, forcing people to do an additional four interviews isn't going to change the situation
Oh jeez. I've been unemployed since April and b*y h*wdy this one place I applied to took 3 weeks to initiate the initial interview. "Prescreening" interview was 2mo after that. The following week I'd also been to the "interview" interview where 5 different managers of different departments collaboratively asked me a list of typical interview questions. Was then told I'd hear back from "someone in Hiring" "soon," whether I'd gotten the position or not. It's been 2 weeks. $19-$21/h

Fingers crossed for you. I was out of work for 18+ months up until almost exactly a year ago. It sucked, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Ggbambi
Mine was 14 months 2023 -2024. God speed.

I've also been looking for a while, off and on for about a year (off after surgeries). I think I have a winner now.
I've had a few tell me no that I knew already were a not or a "not long term." As someone said, it's a numbers game. I wish you the best.

The market is crazy bad. I finally have an interview this coming Friday outside of my field of expertise.
I know you'll find something, as well as myself. Just hang in there.
TheRealBrebby
Dude I've been at it for 6 months, you'll find something...... Gotta keep telling myself that, so you have to as well

I get it. Went 5 years w/o job. After the 1st year employers won't touch you with a stick. They see you as completely useless.

Google if you have a temp agency in your area and apply. A lot of bigger companies go through a temp agency for their starting positions.

As someone who was let go and can't find anything, it doesn't always get better

Study what they wanted in the interviews. With no certificate an informed candidate
might be what they hire. And it helps in your first days.

Are you willing to relocate for a job? What do you think is holding you back?
LilSloppy
Hang in there! You got an interview, which means you’re competitive and you’re getting good interview practice.

This is a true statement! AI and automation have significantly changed - damaged - the whole application process, imo

As someone also unemployed and searching, hoping for better news for both us!

I've been on the hunt since March. My rejections were all forms with no feedback. I finally got something and start Monday. Hang in there.

I feel you op. I was let go in April. I've had probably 12-15 interviews. The ones that should have been a shoe in were.. not quite right...

I so feel you. And then they wouldn’t even tell me why they said no. l

Job hunting is a numbers game. Don't take any rejection to heart. Pepper out resumes. Apply to places you WANT to work, even if they aren't hiring.

This sounds so boomer.

Also make sure your resume gets seen by an actual human! Look up ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems)

OR they're hiring internally and they have to pretend they tried to hire an external candidate.
UnprunedSynapses
I only have anecdata but I feel like the number of interview rounds corresponds with how big a red flag factory the company is.
