SPOILERS!

Just kidding

The logistics of that whole thing must be a absolute fucking NIGHTMARE. JFC. Even if the movie turns out bad you got to give the people who make this credit. Also the practical web slinging is so cool.. but fuck that.. I would not trust the integrity of those wires. I think its a absolute crime that it has taken this long for them to put a stunt category in for the oscars...

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck it. Fuck Disney. I love Spider-man, but I ain't watching this shit. They kissed the orange ring and I'm sick of their shit.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Man, I can't wait for this. Spidey is my number one superhero.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Amazing. But fuck Marvel and Disney. Don't let them distract you.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That mobile web slinging rig is pretty sweet and that looks like a ton of fun. Tiring, but fun!

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's awesome, I assumed the web slinging stuff would be fully CGI or at least done on a green screen!

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is that Toby? Or Tom?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those filming permits can't be cheap, but good on them for doing that instead of doing it in CG.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wee spidey cunt

OP should be JasonM8.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still boycotting Disney.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

AI makes all this seem so archaic now

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That has to be one of the funnest stunts in history wheeeeeee

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

oooo awwweeeee....Jimmy Kimmel still cancelled? Fuck yall.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nothing I like better than seeing shit before it's finished. I don't wanna be surprised by shit. Give me all of it. Spoil all media.

I once took a wrong turn in Manchester and ended up on a Brooklyn Street, they'd redressed part of Ancoates for a movie shoot. It was night, only a few guys on set, no indication that it was a set... I was one confused traveler for a minute. Thought I'd teleported to NYC. There was even an NYC taxi, police car, and school bus.

I was once in a temple while a Korean historical drama was set to film. they politely asked me to leave since can't have a westerner hanging out in the wings for that.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a famous story of a movie shoot in Toronto that dressed a street to look like New York. In a break cleaners came in and cleaned up all the trash, so the movie people had to go and put it al back.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

maybe you did, and the Time Variance Authority just hastily redressed everything to make it look like a TV set so nobody realizes anything is wrong.

I thought ICE finally tried Philly this weekend.

I wonder if Tom Holland has to change his name when they're not filming in the Netherlands... I bet that gets expensive. Though, when they return he splits the cost with the studio since they're going Dutch.

Current top celeb story: Tom Holland and a stuntman have been rushed to the hospital, Tom has a concussion after a stunt gone wrong.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really good to see the practical stunts.

Shame Disney is persona non grata for all freedom loving consumers with their capitulation to the Fascist Trump Regime.

Disney takes about 25% of the profits from standalone Spiderman movies in their agreement with Sony.

Yo ho, me hearties. Can enjoy the media without payin' for it.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yo ho. Yo ho.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yarr, it truely is a shame to not sea this one.

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Aye, matey.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I’ll be sad to miss this one, but it as angry as I am at fascists :)

1 week ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Dude, just get gift card to the theater, and use it to book a different show at the same time. Then go into the Spiderman theater. Assigned seating makes this more difficult to do now-a-days, but it’s what you have to do.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Or you can just wait and buy a used copy of the physical media.

Used copies don't result in any payments to the studio.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yo, ho ho,

1 week ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

This made me lol thank you

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wish people would stop watching fantasies about heroes stopping bad guys, and actually put some effort into stopping real life bad guys.

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

That is literally a major appeal of the genre: seeing the bad guys actually get defeated and held accountable.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's possible for people to both enjoy movies and engage in activism, dunno why they need to be presented as mutually exclusive activities.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

No...it isn't possible. And a world war and civil war is going to make things A LOT less enjoyable for you.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

wait, are they really making a movie after the last one? I felt like that one left on a good note so we can say "goodbye" to his Spiderman. That makes me disappointed.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

$1.921 billion

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

and Endgame made $2.8 billion at the time, and yet...

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spoiler warning ⚠️

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've never seen these kind of footages from new york. You mean to tell me, new yorkers just don't care anymore??

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

why dont they just cgi the swinging stuff? surely it would be a lot safer.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

they do and they will for this as well.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So this is just to create references for the cgi animation ? But doesn't it look beautiful as is ?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they'll basically use this to build off of. all the cranes and wires need to be painted out (including all reflections and shadows), city will need to be extended, the whole spiderman suit will need to be replaced, explosions made bigger, smoke denser, etc, etc.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

painted like..; image by image by a human person? Or algorithmically painted computing nearest background? Do you like your job, by the way (I ask everybody this question).

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there's a whole suite of techniques and tools but basically frame by frame by a human person but digitally. roto/paint or prep is a whole dept of it's own. i do like my job even though i complain about it all the time.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lookit all the stars and stripes, are they going to Glasgow to shoot a location that's supposed to be in the US?

1 week ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 3

To be fair, would YOU want to travel to the US these days?

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Decided not to already… gutted.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Probably. Glasgow "grew up" the same time as NY. The building styles are similar. There's tonnes of art nevau (sic) style architecture. Charles Rennie Mackintosh!

1 week ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

And doing scenes there would be MASSIVELY cheaper than trying to do the same thing in New York.

That said, it's kind of admirable that they actually are doing it for real and not just using CGI for everything.

1 week ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Bet you've never been to Glasgow on a Friday evening. That shit is pretty standard after 11pm

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Movies pay for location use, filming here is cheaper than actually using New York for their sequences. This vid's is a few weeks old, they finished that filming a while back (I walked past it a lot).

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But you will never get the "I'm walkin' here!" type of improvisation.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. That's why you'll find Toronto used in American movies so often as a stand in for American cities.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yeah, Spidey should be swinging through the streets of good ol'Toronto, like usual!

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If I had to guess, New York.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Studios tend to go to where the tax credits are. NYC is notoriously expensive to film in.

1 week ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

New york has one of, if not the best, tax credits in the country

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet still way too expensive for most productions. Expense also comes from the complexity in getting permits and things like that.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is why Marvel built NYC outside of Atlanta.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And also difficult, time consuming, or all but impossible to get permits to shut down sections of the city during times when filming needs to happen.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Which is totally the city's choice. It's asking a lot to shut down large parts of a city to film in.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For sure, but is exponentially easier to do it in a city that looks like NY but isn't nearly as busy or relies so heavily on all the infrastructure being usable at peak times so it costs exponentially less to do and doesn't have nearly as much impact.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Absolutely understandable

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Liverpool and Manchester also get used for New York locations because they have the right styles and ages of buildings in certain bits of each CITY. Liverpool was recently used as Gotham for the recent Batman and upcoming Clayface spinoff. Manchester was new York in Captain America and Morbius.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Stunt performers do not get enough credit.

1 week ago | Likes 540 Dislikes 3

Neither does the rigging team or set design.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why Fall guy is such a fantastic movie. Paying homage to the stunt actors.

1 week ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Loved Fall Guy. It didn't get enough attention.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fall Guy was a great movie highlighting that

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

they get no credit as it is.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They get their credit vicariously through the main actors though! (Definitely/s)

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're finally adding an "Achievement in Stunt Design" category to the Oscars for the 2028 awards.

1 week ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jesus that took long enough.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I feel like they should hand out some legacy awards so we know where the bar is at.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Well, there are other annual awards for stunt work like the Taurus.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did not know that. Very cool. Will look it up. I’ve never seen watched a film for the hair and makeup.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The bar is set in relation to other entries in the same year rather than needing to match or exceed winners from previous years.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wonder if that’ll lead to a “gold rush” of movies pushing incredible stunts to get the prize.

1 week ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I think it's going to lead to an increase of practical effects.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's absolutely a reason for giving as much advanced notice as they did.

1 week ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Tom Cruise will get nominated every year.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The reason usually given for not doing it yet was because people could die trying to get the award

1 week ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I feel like they should be able to prevent that, but I don't know shit about it really.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

risk should be negative points, especially now that we have CGI.

1 week ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Credits are for sci-fi. It’s dollar in the real world. I know what you meant i find they don’t get enough money also.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

They get a shit ton of cash. They do just fine.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I stand corrected

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I asked some of those guys on set how much they earned. Something like 3-5x what I was earning on set. Gold

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The practical web slinging is so cool

1 week ago | Likes 358 Dislikes 1

it will almost certainly be painted out and replaced with a digi-double. source: i've done VFX for 2 spoderman movies.

1 week ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Were they the marvel ones or the Sony ones?

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

homecoming and no way home.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where can I watch spoderman? Sounds cool.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Don't forget to look for might nonkey too

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

didney+

1 week ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

And makes you realize why he has to be in shape.

1 week ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

I would be shocked if it wasn't a stunt double up there swinging. Can't risk the main actor flying into something.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, yeah, don’t mentioned that. Soon and I posted this comment I read one about Stunt Doubles never getting enough credit and I felt really stupid.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I said I want that but my core muscles responded "no"

1 week ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I have a vague memory of Spider-Man losing his powers then trying to web-sling (since that's a gadget rather than a power) only to realise that trying to web-sling without super-strength results in his arms just about getting torn off.

1 week ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Spider-Man's super strength has always been underplayed in the movies except for a few shock value moments sprinkled in. Peter can literally punch a dude's head off his shoulders but he always holds back

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yup, best example is when doc oc took over his body and punched scorpions jaw off because he didnt pull his punch. Thats when doc oc realized how much peter holds back.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Genuinely impressed so much of it is actually practical stunts and effects...

1 week ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

And almost 100% will be replaced with cgi. They just do it practical to get excellent reference.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

If all they needed was references they could've swung the guy around on a sound stage.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

This way they also get a reference for the local lighting conditions. Also means the reference footage will actually match the scene he's supposed to be swinging around in, rather than just being generic swinging footage overlaid on top of a city background.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

and to say "we did it for real", lie about the process, and throw the entire VFX dept under the bus all for marketing.

1 week ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

People hate hearing this, but it happens all the time.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

See: Top Gun Maverick as one of the most egregious recent examples.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah. It'll be "touched up" but mostly background stuff, removing lines/booms/etc. You don't put your people in those kinds of situations, and also set off explosives in a major city, just for "reference." You could do that anywhere.

1 week ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

not "just reference" but it will basically all be replaced, including the stunt guy/tom holland.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1
