I was on the way to an airport. Had my suitcase half-way out my front door when the first report came in. Caught the train to work while scrambling to cancel my flights and by the time I got to my desk the second tower came down. The rest of the day is a blur.
I was 9 years old, waking up after a surgery, still under the effects of anesthesia. Woke up, saw my mom and doctor watching the second plane crash in real time and I just started laughing before puking my brains out and passing out. But they brought me a Super Nintendo later which was pretty cool. Thats my 9/11 story.
about half to a third didnt need to die, there was time to evacuate them from the tower that hadnt collapsed yet, but the radios werent compatible and I'm pretty sure they still arent. There's more profit into dropping bombs on kids than making sure your fire departments can coordinate.
Not for a lack of support though. Everyone in the area responded. I lived 20 miles (30+ minutes on a good day, currently 50 minutes) away in New Jersey and my town sent trucks to help however they could
That one. That one gave me chills that I still feel today. All of the beeping. Hundreds of them all signalling that the helpers now need help. I can still hear it. And I'll never forget.
People who are downvoting those comments don't get the point that they have just this one chance to make the best out of their lives. No savegame, no second chance, no fail-safe, just this one life.
I don't think it's that they don't get it, it's that there is literally no value in posting "hur hur god isn't real" on this sort of post. By all means believe or don't as you wish, but the only thing that shitting on other people's beliefs does is make you look like an ass --especially on a post honoring people who died trying to do the right thing for others.
I don't believe in heaven either, but I have enough class to not spout off about it every chance I get.
I hate what I was doing on 9/11. I was a cynical 21yo asshat that used it to troll people in a video game. Because of what I did that day, I remember it vividly, but for different reasons. The guilt of that day changed me over the years into an empathetic, finally decent person. I hope….
Yeah, I can’t believe that I made fun of the people jumping out of the building. I was so immature. I try to really feel for what others are going through nowadays.
As someone old enough to remember it vividly as well (I was 16), I forgive you. I'm glad that you've grown. Thank you for growing and please forgive yourself. You are loved.
Man, 9/11 really is one of those things that I'll always remember the exact details of where I was, what I was doing, and even the conversation I was having.
I walked into my class at university (late, as always). No lecture, just excited conversations, throughout the auditorium. My phone kept ringing, which was odd as it was so early. Then, my professor grabbed the mic and told us what was happening.
Class was then cancelled and I walked outside. All the calls were from my friend, who was in the military at the time. They told me that they were told to prepare to deploy. I will never forget that day.
Pissed off wondering why none of my damn cartoons were on TV. For context In the UK and had 0 clue what the Twin Towers were, nor did any adult I complained to.
I was watching pokemon after school, when a weird banner appeared on top of the screen, on a commercial channel that had NO news programs at all. So I switched to the public broadcast channel and watched that for the following madness...
The teachers were in the hallway, and one was crying inconsolably. Gossip of the classroom was that Ms Lewis was fired. Then the TV rolled in and things got quiet as we figured out what we were looking at, then a second plane came on the screen.
Was in bed when my roommate woke me up, we were in Denver so 2 hours behind nyc, no idea why he was up but all 4 of us in the house saw the second plane, it was supposed to be my first days of classes with global terrorism being one of them. My dad was in the pentagon at the time and we couldn’t get ahold of him for more than a day, day is burned into my memory forever
Trying to understand why everyome was freaking out since i was just out of pilot class and planes were not allowed 1000 feet from the highest point in the landing tunnel. I am not smart and wasnt even bothered to watch the tv at the cafeteria. I was due to travel to newark that week.
9th grade. We all went to the nearest room with a TV and watched the second plane hit the tower. Then I waited at a lunch table and played Egyptian Ratscrew till my mom came to get me.
Very strange day. You could feel the puzzle pieces of the world being.blown apart.
It started shortly before I had to get on the bus to school. I remember everyone talking about it on the bus. Every time another kid got on the bus, they would bring the latest news with them, and it would percolate through the rows until everyone was up to speed. And then another kid would get on, and so on.
Muslim friend and I on the phone discussing taking an ethics class together, she had a neighbor screaming to look at the tv, she said, "What do you bet they're gonna blame this on Muslims?"
I wish they'd just declared them "Assholes" and declared War on Assholes... The world would be a better place (and the US population would be cut in half) if they had.
Was getting ready for school, had one sock on, the other on my hand, my aunt took a call, heard her say to my grandma 'what do you mean watch cnn?' but she did, in time for the smoke and fire starting from the first tower, I was still holding the other sock when the second tower was hit.

It breaks my heart that there was damn little remembrance for 9-11.

You can thank Rudi for that. As mayor, he fought against spending extra for updated equipment.

I remember the footage of their beeping alarms. 😞
4Astaroth
For me it was seeing people rather jumping from the 80th floor than getting caught in the fire. Horrifying end I wish upon no one.

A real shame heaven doesn't exist. :\ they gave their lives saving others from oblivion and have gone into nothingness themselves.
Margrave9000
Yup. It's important that an educated person never lets their education slip when facing sentimentalist nonsense.

Yup. You must make the most of it while it lasts. No point in pursuing lofty goals. Just optimize your returns.

You have the mark of a better person - looking back on your past and not being satisfied with the person you were. Congrats on your growth ❤️

The only real tragedy that happened on 9/11 happened in Chile 1973.
Snooj
I have this for Michael Jackson's death, 9/11, and the Challenger explosion. My mom has it for the death of Elvis and JFK.
Hyzenthlay021
For my Mom's generation it was the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Everyone knew exactly where they were when it happened.
