FYI- These comics are based on the tv show - The Owl House . They are like " wish fulfillment " stories , from an artist that is a fan of the show.

Basically, Hunter is a clone of a human who lived centuries ago, Caleb. Flapjack first belonged to either Caleb or his girlfriend/wife Evelyn -- I don't think we know for sure. He seems to have sought out Hunter because he realized the relation. Philip was Caleb's brother, who came to the Demon Realm with him. There's a lot more to it, but that's the basic outline with as few spoilers as possible.

I'll do my best. So, the two animals you see at the end are each a palisman; a witch's familiar that can also take on the form of a staff. The red bird was actually the palisman to a former incarnation of the boy with blond hair, Hunter. Essentially, Hunter is a grimwalker; a sort of homonculus/false human/magical construct and not the first, but one of many. I do highly recommend checking out The Owl House to learn more.

So Hunter is like Rey from Evangelion, got it. At least he seems happier. Sucks he also has injuries all the time though.

The thing that makes it worse is that grimwalkers heal themselves by draining the life force of a palisman. Hunter was almost dead when Flapjack, the cardinal palisman, landed on his chest and gave his life to save Hunter. That's why he has most of those scars, because Flapjack healed those wounds.
