He's one of those actors where you just wonder why he isn't in even more things and rage against all the directors and studios who didn't put him in more.

Looks like he has consistent roles in TV and movies, just smaller roles. Little disappointed he was in a Daily Wire movie considering he seems to lean left-wing.

Me: “Wait! The Dread Pirate Roberts was Westly?”

Rob Reiner: “Why do we keep letting him into these?”

Tell him I love him

I did that when it was in Bellingham, WA! He seems like a genuinely good person

@OP Man, I live at a scout camp and I don't get to meet Cary Elwes. But I have a Zipline.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...with that user name, are you a Ford truck fan?

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, long ago in eons past at the beginning of the internet I was called Flare. But a game required a second name and Side is all that came into my idiot brain

Heard Carey was kinda of a dick not sure how true that is

Highly recommend the audiobook, which he narrates himself.

I would have asked him about Saw

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

“The Princess Bride will always be the work with which I am most closely associated;and Westley, with his wisp of a mustache and ponytail, the character with whom I will be forever linked. Not Glory, which earned higher critical praise upon release and won more awards; not Days of Thunder or Twister, both of which were summer blockbusters. Not even Saw, which was shot in eighteen days on a budget smaller than most movies spend on catering, and earned more than $100 million; and that’s just fine”

It was a great time. When we met him I immediately felt like he would sit and chat with everyone for a lot longer than he did. Just felt very kind. The movie was fun because it almost became like a stage play where you cheer the hero and boo the villain and everyone chanting along with Inigo Montoya during his scene with the count I just cannot adequately explain. Then him telling his stories and just wanting to keep sharing but not having the time was fun.

Was it, “The Princess Bride: An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes”?

He had some great stories about Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal, and ending up in the hospital twice during filming.

He said he told his wife he wants “Mostly Dead” on his tombstone.

That sounds awesome! Every scene in that movie is good. And it’s the source of my favorite movie quote.

No sound?! C'mon, I was gonna save that if it had sound

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the 90s there wasn't a single conversation that didn't include a Princess Bride quote.

Same!

I'd personally argue that life isnt pain. Pain is a part of life, but there is so much more.to life than pain, that saying life is oain is like saying sunlight is blue because the wavelengths for blue are contained within it.

What are you selling, Dr Physics?

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sunshine and rainbows, from the looks of it.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nothing special. Just a bit of happiness in the knowledge that not all is suffering.

I went to same thing in Kansas City. It was awesome. Glad it all worked out for you!

Saw it St. Louis with my wife. Great fun.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was able to see it with a live soundtrack and it was amazing https://www.bso.org/events/the-princess-bride-2025

DAMMIT a buddy of mine noted BSO = Boston, BSOMusic.org = Baltimore, so I saw it in January in Baltimore...

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is so cool! It wasn’t The Princesses Bride, but I got to see a movie with a live soundtrack once and it was just the neatest thing ever. I’m glad you had a good time.

If you enjoy the avatar the last Airbender I recommend going to the orchestral production of it. Massive room full of fellow nerds and it is amazing

Have you seen the video about how Billy Crystal was told to forget his lines by the director?

This is going to be the new “DIDYOUKNOWTHATVIGGOMORTENSENBROKETWOTOESWHENHEKICKEDTHEHELMETWHILEFILMINGTHETWOTOWERS?”

You misspelled Po-ta-toes

You wanna share with the class?

Billy Crystal in his small scene was literally painfully hilarious. One of the crew injured himself from holding in his laughter so as not to ruin the scene. Lol

4 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Poor Mandy had to endure all the takes longest, as he was in nearly every shot in the scene. Cary was quickly replaced with a dummy.

4 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Didn't the director also have to leave the room? Apparently if you listen hard you can hear him laugh after the "mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich" line.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He was the first to be removed because his laughing was being picked up by the mics
