I’m so glad we haven’t been overtaken by the Trumpist wave (yet).

Imagine you are so full of hate for another citizen's individuality that you pack up your entire family and move to a dictatorship where personal freedoms are crushed.

That you realize that you gave your children into slavery and that you have become a disposable asset to die on the front lines in a pointless war.

As Canadians, the responsibility belongs to all of us, not just our elected leaders, to stand up for what's right and not allow the poor behavior of others to be accepted. If we don't take that individualized ownership, we'll be complicit in whatever the outcome is. Speak up, speak out, for our rights, values and for the those who need help.

Finland here: Our lady PM was marching in Pride (even before becoming PM) and met her husband there (many years ago). Not sure about our current male PM. Our current goverment is leaning to the right..

He's upholding the beliefs and values of the majority of Canadians. Imagine what the USA could get done with a competent leader who's not in the pocket of corporate interests. Military industrial complex is the only reason for the ongoing conflict in the middle east. Nice they dress it up as an ideological issue.

As an American, with all due respect to our patient and less insane neighbors to the north, I gotta admit reading “Carney” and thinking “prime minister” instead of “amusement park worker” is going to take some getting used to.

At least this guy seems cool.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 9

What backlash?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Remember this Carney will not tax the rich. One side is pro LGBTQ and the other side is anti LGBTQ ... both sides work for the rich. Tax the rich or your lives WILL get worse. UK is going to raise taxes on the middle class in 2 months. Wait and see.

Just remember, you have to root out the disease before it ever really goes away...that's what we Americans have failed to do and it will likely cost us everything.

I've been really enjoying Professor Boot's channel. He breaks things down into manageable chunks for dummies like me.

what the fuck is 2L

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

2S* stands for 2 spirited. It's more a Cultural term then a Gender one. Many native cultures have specific societal roles that people of the third gender fulfil (Trans, gender-fluid, homosexual, etc). It's one of the cases where the term cultural appropriation by use by people of non-natives culture is apt, as it's more about a societal role that has been historically cruelly suppressed then a gender identity.

The acronym is really trying its best to look like the name of a Welsh town, isn't it?

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 43

Are you that bothered by words with like...nine letters?

thats not even that many letters

2 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Considering that their comment didn't include any words with nine or more letters.. it's a possibility

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Who was bothered by it?

It means "two-spirit". I found it funny the plus sign is apparently doing zero work as things keep getting added.

Crazy, I know, but some of us can make jokes while still supporting people. Imgur has a hard time with that.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Uses obvious dogwhistle, then blames people for calling out the dogwhistle. Okay dude.

The plus is doing work if you know who it's still including

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't think you know what a dog whistle is, friend, but sure.

You got upset over a joke. That's fine. Thinking there was ill intent behind it is your problem, though, not mine. Not everything is an attack.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Schrodingers Asshole.

You said a bigoted thing, that bigots say constantly and then when it was pointed out you go "it was a joke and everyone sucks for not getting it" rather than go "oh, I'm sorry, I realize how it could be seen negatively, and that was not my intent". Which makes it clear you DID mean to cause offense

No, but that would be a nice touch ... USA may include XXXL?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 13

I think the 2S means "two-spirited" person

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

2S stands for two-spirit. 28% of Native American youth who fall under the rainbow umbrella prefer this traditional term and third-gender social role over an LGBTQ+ descriptor/identity. It might not make much sense to add this part outside of the Americas, but within the US and Canada it's an important step to acknowledge that many First Peoples have been very inclusive for a long time, and to include their traditional identities instead of forcing the white man's nomenclature onto them.

2 months ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 3

All that being said, I'm personally very fond of the initialism GSRM. It stands for Gender, Sexual and Romantic Minorities, which covers everything and would never need to be expanded. It's actually more inclusive than 2SLGBTQ+, which still lacks polyamory and the romantic aspect of queer identities (panromantic, aromantic etc.) It also works in German and several other languages. Alas, GSRM has never gained much traction.

2 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Might start using that myself

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One I've encountered a lot too is LGBTQIA+, which includes intersex and asexual, which also has its LGBTQIA2S+ variant (putting the 2S at the end). But personally never heard of GSRM! Having one term to include all would be more inclusive and generally easier to understand.

2 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

It would also prevent assholes from cutting it down to LGB

As a Blue Grit I'm happy my fellow Canadians didn't go with Poilievre.

Yup that is a "straight pride" tshirt

A lot of red Tories did too!

Never forget that PP is trash

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So I've been spending more time in the riding hes trying to win right know and its actually pretty surprising how many people in that riding that ive talked to are pretty pissed hes running there and arent sure they will vote for him.

Im not polling people but I am a pretty chatty drunk and rural albertan love talking about politics.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Battle River - Crowfoot have a chance to pull a big funny. I'm not expecting it but I'd sure love to see it.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. I'd actually love to see swampy win because it would be super funny for her name alone and because rural alverta hates NDP but I expect it'll be pphead

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian who watched the idiots drives their trucks in circles, I am as well.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It was too close for comfort. If trumps hadn’t been elected it would have been PP

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah Canada! I pray the US can get back to this kind of thing, however unlikely

2 months ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 5

We'll need to do the hard work to regain the progress we've lost and much more work still to make gains again, but we can do it.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There are numbers involved now?

2 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 30

I don't think anyone understands what the "+" means.

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 32

No… we do.

2 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

You can just do a quick Google search or ask a few members of the community. Maybe try not living under a rock.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

*I* don't need to. I knew it also stood for the "2S". The people who had to add it and also keep the "+" did not.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't like a lot of Banker Daddy's policies, it's a lot of centrist status quo in my opinion, but at least he's a decent human being.

2 months ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 5

You know we're in tough times when someone meeting the barest minimum of not being a piece of shit is seen as being a decent human being.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ain't that the truth.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Like Canadian politics my whole life he’s the lesser of two bad choices.

2 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Looking at the insane southern neighbour of Canada, the lesser evil is never a bad choice.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I don't hate him and understand he was the lesser of two evils but his appearance at this Pride festival was purely performative. He's cutting the ministry that directly supports this community by 80%.

Yes and no, it's still extremely important that he spoke.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not performative! He has a nonbinary child

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well if he is basically ending WAGE, it obviously is performative. (Also, love that acronym)

2SLGBTQ+?

I was downvoted for simply being confused by what the 2S meant

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not by me, but it's probably because there are a lot of those who feign confusion in bad faith. Questions should still be given the benefit of the doubt but I think some people have gotten jaded over it.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He delivers a good speech, but what concrete steps can he take to combat rising trumpism here in Canada? Like, is there anything he can do about the comment section of basically any Facebook post? Can we get him to get rid of pollievre?

2 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 7

Bud pollevre got rid of him self that man can't find an elected seat too sit in polly wants a seat so bad.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, not turning the country into a sociopolitical dumpster fire seems like a pretty good strategy. When we can afford to feed ourselves as the US falls into abject poverty, I imagine a lot of Trumpism will fall away.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That sound pretty fascist.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

No shit. This fucktard wants people that disagree with them in any way to be silenced on social media. Thats why you got Trump in the first place. People are fucking tired of catering to mentally ill morons.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

There should be a special branch of police that combats hateful comments in online spaces.

Banks and stores of Canada should be ready to boycott another trucker coup as well. Preferably before anything materializes.

2 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

No idea why this was downvoted. The Kkkonvoy needs to be stopped.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Those are the jobs of the citizens, not the elected officials. If he controls speech of the people and tries to oust political opponents you have trumpism

2 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

Not sure if you're trying to be funny but those are very ignorant questions. He literally just mentioned that everybody has rights that should be seen and respected. This includes free speech. Comments are free speech. Existing as a person is a right. Your comment reminds me of why the democrats and it's voters are infighting. Your comment is akin to the comments made by single issue voters of the USA and why they didn't vote for Kamala.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

ok if I have 8273648782734678902 facebook bots commenting in favor of crushing your house and then you have your voice and 12 people you personally know commenting against, doncha think thats a bit of an imbalance that will impact your life in an unfair way when the city uses that as proof to bulldoze your house while youre at work?

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

PP doesn’t have a seat. He should not even have a platform.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don’t remember when it’s happening, but they were planning to hand him a seat by having him run in a super-Conservative riding where the current MP is due for re-election soon for reasons I forget.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s dumb as hell. There should be a vote, not just it be handed over. This will just give him a ticket to re-run.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apologies if I misspoke, but there will be a vote. Just one that is a cakewalk and little more than a formality, so the "handing him" part is not *entirely* literal. The current MP who is resigning won his seat with 82% of the vote.

I dont think Prime ministers are in charge of facebook and bots, but hopefully PP loses his election and Carney is able to get rid of the maple maga

2 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I got banned on r/canada for making a comment that it is in fact possible for PP to lose. Mods didn't like that.r/canada needs a reset.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Reddits gone fully insane the last few years. I got banned because I pissed off a super mod by saying "consent to sex isnt consent to parenthood" and they went full vendetta on me.

How could they think it's impossible for PP to lose?

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The problem with community mods, is the same as police in the states. Power hungry people go for position of power, not to use it well, but to enjoy the power, even if it's just a bit of online moderation power. i'd be willing to bet than like 90% of moderator on reddit should be fired and screened for mental illness.
