Legend of Dragoon is definitely a cult. Please come in, take a pamphlet. I think what I'd really like to see is an HD remake in the style of baldur's gate 3, e.g. set encounters, dialogue options, a mobile environment, but still turn based with the additions.

Played this long LONG ago. Practically remember nothing about it other than never beating it, as well as being in a particular boss battle where the boss kept yelling "Rodriguez, attack!" Don't know how far in the game that was.

Fun story: I never got to play it because of an error around detecting my modded PS1. Disc refused to play, so I had to return it for a new copy and then take that to another store as a 1:1 trade in. And that’s how I played the incredibly underrated Vagrant Story
I would LOVE a remaster so I could finally tick that very old box in my backlog

No remaster yet, but it got a ps1 classics port on ps4/5 about a year ago, so you can play it in all its gloriously ugly early 3d glory if you want

If you have a home computer of some kind, there are many different emulators available for obsolete systems.
Depending on where you live, it may or may not be legal to download ROMs of old games, so it would probably be a good idea to check.

Funny thing is. I hated it as a gameplay thing. But I have to admit it really made Lavitzs death hit home. I couldn’t just think of Albert as the same person or even a replacement I had to completely relearn the moves and that more than anything drove home that lavitz wasn’t coming back.

as someone who was slowly running out of patience from 60+ hours gameplay, i found the pacing of the finale perfect. The more I played the more I wanted to know what happens next... so it was a bit of a happy accident for me. Loved it.

It's not a PS1 game, but Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts:Covenant on the PS2 were both in my top 5 RPGs of all time, and way fewer people even know about them.

It’s a shame, they really were great, and the ring system was another great way to spice up turn based combat with active inputs like dragoon and paper Mario. Even new world and koudelka were pretty good, if a bit less so than 1 and covenant. Shame weird rights issues have prevented a remaster or rerelease I’d love a shadow hearts trilogy

This was my first RPG, i thought it was going to be like legend of Zelda or spyro. Loved it, my PlayStation was so slow i could read a chapter between zones so it was a struggle until i cleaned the dust out. Then i went ham grind to buy the best armor, looking back im a bit disappointed my fav kongol was done dirty

Speed and magic defense are so huge in that game and kongol has the worst of both of those stats. Without the uber gear he’s just a liability on the team.

It was a slog until in noticed the fan in the back caked in dust. I took it apart and it was full of dust once I cleaned it was much faster. Thinking about it that probably made me think it was lightning fast, because by comparison it was but it'd probably be as annoying as hell now

Kongol may have been a purely physical character, but he was also one of my favorites. My favorite team was the worst ones in the game (Rose and Kongol), but I still managed to beat the game when I was a kid with them.

I strongly believe Vagrant Story does not need a remake, just a port so more people play it. Vagrant Story is a technical and cinematic achievement of the era, and is more impressive contextualized by the hardware it came out on. Almost no games back then had that kind of direction, really the only one that competes is Metal Gear Solid.

It is my favorite video game ever, but it could use some gameplay streamlining. Switching in between weapons (which is super important) and switching gems (which is also super important) is clunkly at best.
No notes on story, art direction, exploration, enemy design or music.

I read that the GameCube version changed up some things but Idr what all it was.

It added content, like two side quests that relate to each other, a boss you can repeatedly face over and over, and a bunch of bounties you can fight throughout the story. The only issue is that they decided to put the whole game on one GameCube disc instead of two. The music had to be compressed to fit into the disc.
