Huskies and Malamutes are great dogs but if you live in a hot climate you are sentencing them to a life of discomfort.
Get a rescue, don’t trust breeders and consider the climate before you decide on a breed.

I live on a tropical island, sadly Huskies get smuggled here from Venezuela, and are popular pets here. Just too cruel. All of it.

I had a Newfoundland! I would look outside when it snow and she would be just be laying on her back sleeping lol.

Consider climate, decide based on their personality(not only on looks), think about fur maintenance, if you want puppy, they need education!

Polite reminder to not post pet "advice" to people when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't "buy" puppies... adopt.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

It is sub zero outside and my Pyrenees is sleeping outside"we have a dog door for her

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A collie dog shouldn't be living in an urban area either imo, they were built for running around after sheep in fields

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rescue shelters will also lie to you so they can unload a dog. Research the breed. Talk to actual owners. Visit the dog 3 times.

Too hot

3 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 1

So many people have them here in Thailand. Its a real shame.

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

Oh god, that poor fuckin' pup.

3 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

Omg not cool

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

My great pyr would love more snow, but her husky mix son hates to be cold and is happier under a blanket in bed.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes to this. Yea yes yea

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve always liked the big furry bubbas and prefer a colder climate. Funny though, my Golden mix likes the cold even more than my Saint did.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This! Research a breed you want to purchase, don't just go with looks, pet is a commitment

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have a Norwegian Elkhound; can confirm that he is most comfortable outside on the coldest days.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Grew up in south of Sweden. Neighbor had six huskies. They went north every winter for sleighpulling. Lived outside year around. Beautiful.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see way too many huskies here where temps get into triple digits (Fahrenheit obvs) ?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I live just below the arctic and it's too hot for the huskies here for 3 months of the year. Note that sled dogs are used here

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huskies adjust absolutely fine to warm weather. Insulation works both ways.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes yes and yes. I used to work at a doggie daycare. Huskies are bred as God dam sled dogs they need to run for hours before they're tired

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, you have no clue what you’re talking about. I had two huskies in Phoenix and they loved sunbathing in the summer in the back yard. 1-

3 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 6

I'm in Canada and have a husky. She greatly prefers lying in front of the fireplace than being outside in the winter.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I’d call to have them come inside and they’d just look at me like I was dumb & go back to snoozing. Tired of this old narrative.

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 4

As a teenager my family and I owned a sled dog team to bring our groceries and water up the hill. The dog in this photo is happy as hell...

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

I’m you have a husky in a warm climate. Do not cut its hair. It’s hair actually keeps them cool. Huskies survive fine in warm climates btw.

3 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 6

Have 1 in So Cal. I only cut my huskies tangles cause she has whooly hair and that shit gets crazy

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I live in Texas. My friend's husky never seems overheated. She's also the kind of dog to chill on a pool floaty.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's because they don't actually get overheated (their double coat is insulation, for both warmth/cold) and OP is just ignorant as fuck.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Live in Taiwan, an island in the subtropics. My sister got a husky, and provides him with near-24/7 AC. Love the bastrd but still feel iffy

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

ACs tend to bring trouble for pets. Sudden temp & air changes can affect their metabolysm &/or respiratory system. If the house is super /1

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

cold but outside it's super warm the body can't addapt. It's either summer or winter furr, so either it's too hot outside or too cold inside

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AC is strange in the age of climate change "hey, humanity can thrive in uncomfortably hot places, but doing so makes everything hotter"

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

The thick fur also does a great deal to block out heat. So it's perfectly fine so long as you don't shave your husky's coat.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We take ours for trims in the summer and he LOVES it. Being Texas, his walks in the summers are shorter and during cooler morns or evenings

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Stop judging. They could have adopted, moved to a hotter climate & chose to keep their family dog. Plus air conditioning makes it better.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 12

But also the entire premise is false. Huskies don't suffer in warmer climates, their fur insulates their body temperature.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. I have 2 huskies in South Florida. They can choose to be inside with a/c or out easily but they choose to sunbathe outside more.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I live in Australia, have a husky. Regularly see him sun baking. He doesnt lay down and the sun moves to him, he goes to the sunny patch.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Thank you for sharing, wouldn't have guessed it, but it makes sense that the thick coat works as insulation for both hot and cold

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah he loves it, but he also likes just chilling inside. We get him ice every now and then but he doesnt seem interested in it.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While I agree with 90% of this, I would say don’t trust BACKYARD breeders. My wife breeds, and she has an entire questionnaire to make…

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Sure that the buyer is well aware of what the dog needs. She’s more concerned with the health and happiness of the dog than anything else.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

& if you're looking for a dog fit to purpose, dogs from selective breeders that raise them in the environment you're looking for will 9/10

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

times take to the job more easily than a randombred or rescued puppy mill dog (assuming the latter ever take to it at all)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. The breeder we went with rehomes any dog they sell if the owner can’t look after it anymore. +1 Responsible breeders AND shelters

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My breeder also works with shelters and fosters. Because she screens all potential buyers she’s in a real good place to matchmaking people-

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It pleases me that as a Canadian, owning a husky would be dandy.

3 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 2

As long as you're good with 3 or 4 long walks a day

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

As an Arizonan (in the desert part) it annoys me when I see huskies/ malamutes. Then owners excuse it by shaving them in the summer.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Shaving them? God that’s not good for them either….

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

If anything, that's even worse. Insulation works both ways, they can handle up to about 30C/85F as long as they can get shade and water.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Depends where you are. Southern Ontario gets pretty hot in the summer, and climate change is making that even worse.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As its currently -17 degrees lol

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Edmonton is pretty far north

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wonder if those living in Nunavut think of Edmonton as southern dandies

Only if you raise it to be one.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

BAHAHAHHA... I can guarantee you've never owned a husky.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 14

Just because you don't know how to not project your mental problems onto your pets, doesn't mean the rest of the world is as incompetent.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 17

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Out of 6 huskies so far, none of mine have acted like the recent screaming husky vids. Howls when outside+being vocal, yes. Screams, no.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Its training and expectation. I notice lot of people let their dog get away with stuff because it's part of their breed behavior.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I also find it immensely funny that the first idiot to reply used the same line as every anti-vaxx parent "I cAn teLL yOU dOn'T hAVe kIDs"

2, and a sammy and a wolfamute.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

There. You could've left it at that. You didn't have to be a dickhead. But you did.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

You guys know that insulation goes both ways, right? They're fine in warm weather too, their fur insulates them.

3 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 8

Btw, I said that because I live in a 40°c place and I have a ragdoll cat. She breezes through it. She even actively avoids the AC sometimes.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My long coat GSD loves to Like in the sun on 40C days

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, people that make posts like OP don’t get that & have no idea what they’re on about.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

I have a GSD, it's no husky but its a long coat variant and she has a thick double coat and will go and lie out in the sun in 40C heat

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Huskies are heat tolerant AND cold tolerant, people just make shit up. Simple Google search shows a -75 to 90°F range. >

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

>they have a double coat for good reason, it's why you shouldn't ever shave them, only brush them.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Huskies do great in Utah, snowy af winter AND 100° summers, just make sure to give them tubs of ice to play in and don't take them out

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Between 11 and 3

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you wouldn't do that even to yourself, why should you do it to your doggo xD

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

.... Like any dog

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's my point lol huskies do great in the desert when you have common sense :p

3 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

For sure. The most extreme examples are what people post, it's not entertaining to just see a dog act like a dog. Give them shade and 1/?
