Now we’re here. 13 years ago I was homeless. Then I spent 10 years in Section 8 housing. Today, today I own a home.

EDIT: Most viral?!? Thanks for all of the support! First, we fully intend to change the locks. Second, I could not have done this alone in my area. It took two incomes, the VA loan with a disabled vet, a couple years of hardcore working on credit, saving Xmas bonuses, saving stimmy checks, saving the tax refund, and using a local lender rather than a big bank to do this. Third, I’m a big ole lesbian. The hand you see is of my big ole lesbian wife.

SECOND EDIT: 1) The price on this house is nowhere near 1 million. This is in a rural area. Not everything across the US is the same cost of living as LA, NYC, DC, etc. A friend recently purchased a similar home in WV for only 286k. 2) To better explain my timeline: I was homeless because I was a full blown junkie living in a metropolis. I did a lot of couch surfing and living out of cars. I had an emergency court order that allowed me to enter Section 8. During the 10 years on Section 8, I gradually gained better employment/wages, got clean, and earned two degrees that got me the job that afforded me to buy a home.

How'd you manage that in 3 years?

Curious, was the VA home loan helpful? I'm 100% service connected p&t. Was in same situation 6 yrs ago. Congratulations to you both!

Great work! Dreams do come true.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Internet has broken me, expected the story to be about how I used to be homeless, but I saved up enough to purchase this key

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Is that a Japanese maple in the foreground? They're beautiful trees.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This house would cost $1.5-2 million where I live. What does it cost where you live?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuckin’ nice!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How did you get out of homelessness? What do you think would be the first step to helping others do the same?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a realtor in Nashville TN. If anyone else wants help or just has any questions about how to become a homeowner message me I love to help

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Congrats! Getting to own a home today is insanely difficult and a huge accomplishment. Let alone a beautiful home like that!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lesbians have hands now!?! What a time to be alive!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Super proud of you OP and the house is super cute! But can I ask what the green Lorax looking bush is?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have no idea what it is but we are keeping it!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

who's the lady by the window?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which window?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Saw her too ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cute house. I know you'll love it well. And you didn't title your post "I did a thing" . Bless you and your home.

4 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 3

I love your comment.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you and bless you too.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought I was the only person who thought "I did a thing" was over used and cliche.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I include it with "sky puppy" and "danger noodle" and "toe beans" etc. Worst is "no this is Patrick" to ANY "is...?" question

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I know all of those except sky puppy, is that a bat?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I too bought a home this week WELL DONE!. It was hard as fuck with all the advantages and privilege I have. So more power to you.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Congratulations to you!!!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well I don’t think starting from the top is a good way to build a house.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What about in Australia?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lezbehonest.. this is awesome!!

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This would cost like 3.5 mill plus i think in my area

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Right? same!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If we stayed in our current area it would be about 800k to a mil. So we went a couple hours out. Prices dropped in half.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Urgh in the uk i have just paid the same for a 3 bed terraced house with no parking

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Now take it from the bank in 30 years and you'll really win!

4 years ago | Likes 415 Dislikes 2

Don't photograph your keys! Can be remade from a picture. I can read the key code even with this low quality. (Yes top comment tag-along...)

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I locksmith, & I can't for the life of me see any designation. The bitting, though, is an issue. Don't photograph the cuts of your keys.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We're not here to take your home. But a reverse mortgage will do just that

4 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Lets just enjoy the moment for now

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Never. Never stop to enjoy the moment until the game is over. This is how the banks and predators get you, by giving you a moment of bliss

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

You let your guard down and these bastards tear you to shreds, it sucks that we love in a society like this but it's fact

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

How is that winning? 15 years of free money (interest) to the bank, sounds like a shit deal to me

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you say you own your house when there is still a mortgage owed?

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You own the liability if something happens on this property so it’s only fair to say you own this house. Congratulations!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cool... Thanks?

"Lol just triple your monthly payment! Its super ez!" Do you have brain damage?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cool cool cool definitely an option for everyone.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Interest rates are hella low right now - borrow for as long as you can, invest the difference, you'll come out ahead.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Some of us don't live in the middle of butt fuck nowhere, where a house like this would only be 500k.

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

A house like that in the rural south would be more like 250k

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Lol i live on vancouver island, a house like this is easy 900k-1.2m

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

Not all of us are made of money

4 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

still good advice

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So is “Don’t be poor” but both are equally useful.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. :D I have severe depression and only get like 600$/ month, minus bills. I could put 20$ on my safe monthly and still be poor at 70y.o.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Improve the value of the house with simple things like fixing stuff and especially landscaping (lots of feee materials on CL and FB).

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then wait a year and bump your credit as much as possible, get it appraised, refinance for a 10 year and you’ll likely lower your IR and

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

be able to increase your mortgage if you want. Take that mortgage money, invest in low risk, dividend lying stock like J&J. Pay off in 7-8.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Split your monthly payments and pay every two weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

That makes no sense.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

????? That doesn't reduce the amount of money you pay total.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That’s right but there are 26 fortnights in a year which is like 13 months. So you do pay extra without it making an impact. Interest is-

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Also depends on how your loan is calculated. Calculated daily charged monthly is where it works. But google it for a better explanation.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Congrats. Pro tip: don't post the key like this as people can duplicate the cut just from the photo.

4 years ago | Likes 326 Dislikes 67

They might need the address too

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Picking a lock is way faster than bothering to duplicate the key.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We don’t know the address though

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You know how easy Google maps is to use?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Do you plan to just click through every street on the planet looking for a house front?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I might be wrong, but it looks like the windows are made of glass. This also allows entry to the building

4 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 1

Judging by the picture those windows are polycarbonate

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Noisy entrance tho.. Maybe he's on a stealth archer build tryin to stay undetected

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Right, but if you cut a key you can go in a Nd no one will know you went in, instead of smashing a window and making everyone know

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where I live you could shoot someone and set their house on fire, no one notice or care

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's hard tho. I have tried enhance the pic and filter out the back. Hued it, pixel still not there. Can make a draft 3d model of the key bu

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

But really just one side. The thickness of the key is not possible to precisely predict. Set a common value to it but I doubt it would work.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then I presume I could use Google earth and this picture which would be processed through Python, with some APIs to locate you house. I will

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Make a couple of keys to try out, maybe one would work. Yeah man, sleep with a gun now cause I might come to your house and

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At night, and rape you in front of your wife, and then I'm taking all your left over pizzas and beers. And snacks. All of them.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep. And from the sun through the leaves they can determine the country, the state, the county, and street address, then they can use 1/

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Easily open your door with a key they made from a picture and steal your 36 inch plasma tv from 2011 that’s worth 19 dollars. 3/3

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one is doing this.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s Super easy to read bidding codes from pictures

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They can also toss a brick through the window

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You're a paranoid lunatic

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Honestly if someone were able to determine the exact address from this post and replicate that blurry ass key photo, they deserve the loot

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

& if someone's willing to go that far I'd suspect a stalker before a thief

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Does this really ever happen? Are there really people out there making bootleg keys and finding houses posted online to burgle?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Locksmith here - Yes, a key can be recreated from this picture. I can also pick the lock. Internet is full of weird people - don't risk it!

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Haha being judged as a criminal, by a super villian must be harsh.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Do we have any sources to a story of this occurring? I always see this same comment. How often do these type break-ins happen?

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

No. It’s as dumb as those made-up stories about the “new way” sex traffickers are marking vehicles in grocery store parking lots.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Almost never, most break ins are by crack heads and they typically do a smash n grab.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I've have copied keys from pictures, house and car keys, but not done anything illegal with it, it's kind of part of what I do

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Security is a better-safe-than-sorry deal most of the time. Realistically, this attack would never happen. But what if?

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I get that. If our new home owner friend had that jewel from titanic, sure. I would cross reference his posts to see which city he’s in.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Search to city for the house, copy that key. And steal it. For home entertainment equipment. Nah

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If someone has the skill to replicate a key from this photo then they are skilled enough to open it without the key. So it doesn't matter.

4 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 5

Incorrect, tracing the bidding on a key is really easy compared to picking. One allows access to walk in and out unsuspiciously. Picking >

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Have you ever actually seen someone try that? Like not in a video where they only show the success. It's still really hard.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

It really isn’t that hard, I’ve done a lot of lock work working restaurants and having the bitting key from a photo makes it really easy to

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Either fabricate a key or pick more easily if you know the brand of blank to use.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The pins are all standard lengths and there's less than ten options. Count the number of variations between highest and lowest pin and

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Subtract from ten, that gives you the most number of cuts you have to try to have a success. Just make all 3 and walk over.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have done it before.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like I would challenge you to try and trace your own key that you have in your hands and make it work. It's even harder from a pic.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I’ve done it successfully in a restaurant when a bartender lost the keys & the only other copy was on vacation in Singapore. The worst part>
