Far from a barn. Better find some hay.

My question is what is an owl doing out at sea?

Even seagulls only go out to sea to die.

They just happened to have their camera out? Clearly staged /s

The owls are not what they seem.

A barn owl landing on the head of a person on a fishing boat at sea, or some huge lake? That's... like finding a cat swimming in the ocean that just hops aboard and shakes off the wet with ease, then looks around at the crowd for a snack.

the people being super loud tho...

To make a non threatening animal feel at ease is to kinda ignore it.

"You're probably wondering how I got here.."

Is that a bigger bird chasing it? Seemed to turn off after approaching the boat

I saw that, I think it was just a gull in the distance, which I don't think is an active predator but might have been wondering what that thing was too. Little bird was pretty far from home.

Larger gull species are apex predators in their niches and can and will kill & eat smaller birds. So will other predatory seabirds like Skuas.

Currently reading the Batman's Court of Owls. I only see this as a warning from the Court now, lol.

Probably realized that straw hat people might be Amish, and if anyone knows where the barn is, they do. And if not, they'll build one.

long way from home
the bird must be desperate

I wonder what a barn owl is doing in the middle of the sea (or lake). It's true, however, that everyone deserves a vacation ...

There was a very small owl once on a cruise ship we were in in the Bahamas. It got on in Florida and off in St. Thomas I think. Free cruise!

probably blewn out to the sea by strong winds, now exhausted and desperately looking for a place to land and rest...happens often to birds, that way they happen to travel with ships to other continents and get stranded there...

1 week ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You know how many rats are on ships, in and out of ports? I'm guessing a lot of seaside areas are good hunting for them.

In the Navy we used to always have a bunch of birds in my frigate's hangar who would accidentally come with us when we set out. Some would stick around for a few days but most of them would disappear after a while :/

Owls are raptors and can hold their own, they're actually of the kick ass and take names type.

2 weeks ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Ha. Great Black-Backed Gulls actually are notorious for "ruining" raptor-watchers' days by chasing off the eagles and stealing all the fish.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

("Ruining" because I find it funny they prioritize the one birds when honestly, gulls are so fuckin' cool)

being a train guy wins again, no worry of the wrong train chasing off your pant creamer

So "IT'S THE STEAM ENGINE WITH A STEEL CHAIR!" isn't an option? :(

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was either being chased by the bigger bird in the first few frames, or it was stranded/lost in inclement weather (horizon looks pretty hazy/wet)

Seagulls know that a lot of birds can't swim. They kill the pigeons in my city by pushing them into the water, and then drowning them.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I've watched the beginning a few times and still can't work out what the other bird is. Does seem to have a larger wingspan but video makes it look white so guessing large seagull.. and those shits will try to eat anything if brave enough.

Frigatebird? Might be too far north for them, but the size and profile might fit. Also the scariness lol

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'm guessing a large gull or skua.
