He can't build a subway? Fucking ok? He cant build a dyson sphere, either. Whos asking for subways? He can start thousands of charities that help people and still be mind bogglingly rich. But he, musk, and bezos do nothing to help the people who made them rich because they're sociopaths.

It's almost like the capitalism thing is literally a scam. Weird.

This is weaponized ignorance. The average price in the US is $250mil per mile and is cheaper than many other countries. This picked the two most populous regions in the country, both of which are currently building hard new lines. In the case of new York there is rampant corruption and abuse.
Those are *not typical* costs and should not be treated as "normal" when they are extraordinary.
Also, Grand Central Station serves 750,000 customers a day. Why should 1 person control enough capital 1/

to build a train station capable of servicing three quarters of a million people a day? That is what is absurd. The post is upside down.

The reason it is so expensive is because a CEO and Shareholders need a big profit at every stage.

And the vendors will inflate materials cost, because Uncle Sam has deep pockets.

And, you know, because Paris is built on a sedimentary basin.

Several CEOs, and each intermediary company's shareholders. Engineers, architects, surveyors, conultants, and every physical trade.

And also because developers don't pay with cash. They borrow, and institutional lending exists in a legal framework that favors those who borrow a lot of money or a tiny amount, and edges out those who fall in between. Basically banks want to know that you're building something expensive for rich consumers, because that's a safer bet. And the more you borrow the more they make.

With the subway it's a little different because public money's involved, but.

Is it named BART because of the screaming sound it makes on the tracks?

Sure. (It’s really jst Bay Area rapid transit - but let’s go with yours).

And yet, people in countries like France make a living wage, have health care, much more vacation and holiday time, shorter hours, etc.

It’s almost like massive income disparity & extraction don’t benefit the majority of the nation. That can’t be right!

What we need is less billionaies bleeding the public for every cent they can. Then you would see not only the cost of infrastructure drop, but the cost of everything. You would also living wages go up. Not to mention things like universal healthcare would go a very long way in aiding the cost of living. But hey, billionaires need more profits, right?

Best we can do is black stone suing UHC for providing too much health care.

Colleges and Museums don't cost as much as entire public transit systems though.

The Obama Presidential Library for instance all together costs less than half a billion dollars. This is similar to many other institutions.

I don't recall 19th century robber barons building public transit systems.

Rockefeller built a ton just in specific locations. For example In Florida Barnum from Barnum and Bailey built some nice theaters and a massive mansion etc.

What public transit systems did JD Rockefeller build with his own money?

A link to his entire Wikipedia article is not going to suffice.
