I know the first one is just the beginning of a construction product like any other but it makes me feel bad. Really gotta make sure we scrape away the little bit of greenery that survives in that desert.
#2 is this the real difference between cigars and cigarettes? Cigars are a shit load of leaves wrapped tightly? And cigarettes are ground tobacco in a wrap?
Don't. It doesn't properly apply the caulking. You need the pressure from the second swipe from either the tool or your finger to press the caulking into the crack so it'll hold properly. That way is easy and looks nice... Right up until the first rain.
Flow, speed, angle and touch are all important, but I'm definitely going to try out that "tip tip" next time. I suck at this, but have to do it often enough that I wish I was good.
Middle of nowhere California chaparral with a road lined with new trees that don't look like they're appropriate for the area? They're 100% building a planned community and creating a fire break. See these all over the place driving between San Diego and Hemet where my mom lives.
Okay, i actually did this in the Nevada desert. We do this to help regrow the plants in the same area. We’re trying to turn the slopes into turned grounds to be able to keep wildlife rotating around. That’s what I was told we were doing and it makes sense when we would see more wildlife return the following year. I seems to be a better thing than people like to believe.
I'm sure they have some very sensible and valid reason for further destabilizing that slope... Which is always a great thing to do while sitting in a heavy machine resting on the top of said slope...
I'm sure they could be clearing it of organics for some specific reason and are planning to clear the stuff off the top once they're done scraping the sides, but when the crews I work with on projects doing that they don't normally clear that much of the sides at once. Just a bit so they can save off the top till they get down low enough to need to clean the sides up again. Cause otherwise shit just grows back before they get there...
#1 - that's a long boi! But I wonder about the philosophy of removing all the natural vegetation from a desert slope like that. Guarantees it will wash out when the monsoon comes.

#3 looking forward to the official Ryobi attachment for this

#2 Don't tobacco workers get addicted with all that nicotine on their skin all the time?

Nope. While nicotine is addictive, it's much less than the other ingredients in cigarettes

The fact they are not emptying the fire extenguisher first is a sign they have no idea what they are doing.

Gonna try #9 when caulking my windows this spring.
IdRatherBeOnThePlaystation
I'm going to try it when installing some mirrors on a wardrobe door, I'm not bad at caulking but I still think this will be hard.
WizardofAnus
Don't. It doesn't properly apply the caulking. You need the pressure from the second swipe from either the tool or your finger to press the caulking into the crack so it'll hold properly. That way is easy and looks nice... Right up until the first rain.

Cuz we have to build more shopping malls and pools and stuff; we can't just let nature be nature right?!

There’s also a landslide problem for some reason…

Without erosion the contractor is going to get fewer RFP's.
seckzie
I was thinking he was removing grass from the pile because they were going to use the clean sand, then he dumped the grass on top. :)
realrealluckless

Did they make the "Chi-Chan Bait" excavator specifically for this task? Weird.
Thornaxe
Are they maybe gonna come in and plant a bunch of trees? A lot or recently transplanted trees in the background.
gorgeousninja
Yeah same, isnt it about forty years too late to be cheering environmental destruction
hotmessactual
I imagine for fire control, or the expansion of a gravel pit.

Congrats on the erosion
denimdaddy
I came here to say just this.
emjei
It’s a fire break, and doing it like this is bad for the environment and not effective with wind and embers.
RetrogradeLlama
I lived there so I know what you're suggesting, but look at the rest of the site. It doesn't look like a fire break is their goal.

Yes, I'm a tumble weed expert. I can confirm

mikeatike
Tumble weed university.
SrPootStank
My cousin goes there, terrible school

I've been to Weed university. I can confirm whatever man.
maststick
My exact thought. That’s a good way to destabilise the bank and cause a landslide the next time a storm comes along
HavelTh3Rock
Maybe that's the intent? I don't know why one would intentionally do that, but maybe?
TheBunnyPants
I was wondering why you would need to destroy that hill so completely. Maybe the point is to remove it? Flatten the area for a larger development?
Thornaxe
Nah. For that you’d have a big dozer smash the whole thing down.
maststick
But if you’re removing the hill would it matter if some light scrub was mixed with the dirt? It doesn’t make sense to scrape it clean first
ScarecrowSticks
Quicker erosion
