I asked for help with an issue; it turns out, some websites just won't load properly (even gmail), with some adblock software running. So, I had to turn off certain ones for certain sites and everything went back to normal. Thank you all so much for helping me, I am serious. I needed an outside perspective. Thank you!

I've been using AdGuard, no issues so far.

Nemesis born ?

Used to use UBO, had no issues with it until Chrome decided to block it, now using Firefox and AdNauseum to throw off their data quite a bit..

If I do end up watching this show, it's going to be because of these comics.

Sports!

I was gunna, but I don't wanna get invested in something they stopped making after like one or two seasons

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With what they were given, they made the last season - which was like 3-4 hour long episodes - count as best they could. I would've liked to have seen more, but they ended it well all things considered.

"some adblock software"

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

it might also be your location ? or browser ?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fixed it, but thank you. I appreciate the assistance

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

see, there's different ways that can be read... "with some adblock software running" can mean "an amount" or it can mean "with certain adblock software" but generally speaking people try to avoid ambiguity, like "some" unles the ambiguity isn't the point. So in this case since "some" is an ambiguous word in this instance, "some adblock software" reads (to me anyway) as basically "if you have ad block software, it won't load"

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the future, I will either try to be less ambiguous or, knowing me, just hate myself for my many, many mistakes and continue to make them

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no need to hate yourself, I was just letting you know how i read it and why

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't worry about it, I hated myself WAY before I made a single writing error

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the worst, right? I do the same thing and then obsess about those mistakes for years. Oh I will. I've even called some people and be all "Hey remember when I did such and such about 20 years back?" And they inform me that they don't remember it at all because it wasn't a problem.

But I got a good chuckle when I read "A rich man says to another guy, 'I'll give you $50,000 but your worst enemy will get $100,000.' The guy grins and replies 'That's fantastic! I could use $150,000!' "

The 2 adblockers you mentioned aren't great. Try ublock Origin. They don't sell your data either.

I started using Brave which has built in adblocking to get around the sites which are now stopping the adblockers.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the one I use too

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. I will probably have to switch, a lot of people recommend ublock origin

1 month ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

I work in IT and run it daily. It just works.

It's not JUST an adblocker. It's a full-on content filter. I use it to force YouTube to hide shorts and playables permanently, as well as forcing it to show a specific number of videos per line on the home page. You can also hide annoying elements from websites that aren't ads, like if there's a particularly awful banner or something.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I blocked the "use new design" button on imgur since I accidentally clicked it once.

At the moment, ublock origin is king in terms of adblockers, the team behind it is constantly at work keeping it running. Mozilla on all devices, with ublock origin running is probably the simplest and most effective combo for everyone. As a general rule I'm not recommending chrome to anyone anymore on account of how it's hamstrung adblockers on desktop as well as outright lying to users saying one can't run an extension like an adblocker on mobile (you 100% can.)

yeah, I gave up on chrome a while ago. currently using thorium, cuz I liked the old chrome UI (before it changed for the thousandth time)

Couple it with AdGuard DNS and your sailing will be still smoother. Plain DNS: 94.140">4.14">94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15 (there are other options, though: DNS over HTTPS/TLS/QUIC, crypt, ipv6, non filtering, with and without parental control...)

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I don't use chrome at all

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ad nauseum uses Ublock's program, does everything Ublock does, but it shadow clicks the ads and waists the ad company's revenue.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hi, web developer here. Browsers track whether a click was generated by actual user interaction or a script, and will pass that information on to whatever click handler the ad company wrote. In other words, you can trivially detect those things.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry might need to dumb that down for me

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

TLDR: Ad nauseam's tricks are easy for ad companies to spot, so it's not actually wasting them revenue.
