And Zaslav does the same with CNN. This won't be over until you guillotine the billionaires.

If it does become practice, I wonder how long it will take Amazon to create Bluetooth Blades, the newest in political commentary? You'll lose your head at our prices! You'd need a new password for each slice or some shit. Everything is commodified.

What about the good christian law-abiding officers who run our federal concentration camps where people are unlawfully detained and sometimes tortured without due process?

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And there enforcers (read: cops and the national guard).

The good thing is you don’t even have to boycott them. Their programs will suck.

Don’t forget about their enforcers. They are equally as culpable for these horrors.

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Trivia: we usually just refer to them as Liberals and Conservatives. They're pro-billionaire enablers who constantly make excuses for them and worship unlimited capitalism.

Ellison is a bullshit artist.
He knows trump lost.
Ellison is a plain racist that wants a white American in my opinion.
Look into his past hiring practice.

Don't anthropomorphize Larry Ellison.

that includes the majority of imgur's users. take note and take precautions. people have already scrubbed their accounts here in response.

Well. If I disappear at least it’ll be funny why I disappeared. Never thought I’d be yeeted because of an Imgur comment calling 45 useless, but sure, why not

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Without a doubt. It's fullblown fascism and its only getting worse for every day

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep. The regime isn't "full-blown" yet but it's getting there because Republicans have already become full-blown fascists. It's already "mostly" fascist with the Gestapo, militarized police, repression/brutality, concentration camps, ethnic cleansing, purges, govt censorship, takeovers, corruption, domestic/stochastic terrorism, imperialism, foreign genocide and coup. And it's definitely gonna get worse.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And now he has a year full of shows with no risks of being cancelled

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Daily Show will be next (because of Jon Stewart), I guarantee it.

That's literally what the Paramount take over is about. Paramount is Comedy Central's parent company.

I thought it was due to finances and low viewing audience against late night shows overall

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 95

No, it was because he used his free speech and the boss didn't like that very much.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

His is the only sort of show that gained viewers the past quarter and their highest viewed show overall. Why would you listen to obvious lies?

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

it was the highest rated late night show

2 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Oh I had no idea, good to know and makes me question the official narrative

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Always question the official narrative, especially in times like these. I learned that a long time ago, follow the money. Who is paying for the study? Who finances the show? Who stands to benefit from its rise or fall?

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Two things can be true at the same time I'd say. Late night was never particularly great ratings wise but it did have "presence" and prestige networks like, these days late night gets lots of social media engagement too. Using an actual lack of profit (vs something imagined) to axe something is an expedient and popular way in the entertainment biz to get rid of something executives don't like for whatever reason. I.E Firefly.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah and as others have said he was apparently more popular than most so that would be less understanding. I'm sure depends on what network and funding infrastructure. So idk but yeah seems dubious by many people here.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TBF many people here would blame a fart on a right wing political party at the moment. Don't misunderstand. Right wing nutters are trying to start WW3 as we speak and are vile assholes. But this is a pretty strong echo chamber for anything that feels good for leftish people to say. An ounce of caution is warranted (as with anything) before believing anything that feels good for anything politically motivated.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the only stuff I heard officially so far was that it was canceled. Then an insider said it was more financially related and that was confirmed and reported by NPR. And thattttts about it. So I'm open to hearing more and finding out otherwise. But also there are others that might have gotten the cancellation too by similar metrics. I'll sit around and wait to hear more I guess but yeah super understanding of the critical questions around this being related to political retaliation.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's the official excuse, sure. But being the most watched late night show, you wouldn't expect him to be first

2 months ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 2

Oh didn't know it was number one that's important to know. Wondering why him than others I watch.

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

They just settled a lawsuit from Trump. He sued all the major news outlets just before taking office with the implication that he would punish them in an official capacity if they didn't pay him off with settlements. They are also going through a high level merger that requires government approval. It is 10000% appeasement of orange Hitler.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He criticized the parent company of the network for folding on a lawsuit trump filed that they could have easily won and paying him millions of dollars as a bribe

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't call being on air until next May "being cancelled".

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 59

He has a contract, like a subscription when you cancel it, it just doesn't renew but continues until it's end.

2 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

"They didn't cancel him until May so it doesn't count as being canceled." -fucking morons

2 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

Is he silenced by the cancellation? No. If your arguments would be valid, the big bad CBS's goal would be to silence him.
Why don't you educate yourself on the ropic? The late night show, as a genre, are struggling for years, there were articles about it e.g. when James Corden ended his show.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's your definition of being canceled?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taken off air, discredited.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Did they forget that contracts are a thing due to oxygen deprivation from licking Cheetos and deepthroating boots? I had it the other way around but breathing wouldn't have been impaired.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Contracts are more to keep "the talent" in line and aren't difficult for network/ to get around. Buying colbert out of his contract wouldn't affect CBS's bottom line much at all.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Would kind of prove their comment about it being "purely financial" was a lie, though. They still care about the optics - at least until the MAGAt that bought them officially takes over.

Also, this is Stephen Colbert. I would not be surprised if the contract is sizeable.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Looks like someone tried to sculpt that Squidward statue but had no idea what they were doing so they just ordered one from temu

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ellison didn't buy CBS. His son's company, Skydance, is trying to merge with Paramount, who owns CBS. Larry has put a lot of money into Skydance.

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

that's just buying CBS with extra steps

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tell the whole story. The merger wasn't going to go through unless they paid Orange Hitler his extortion money by "settling" the lawsuit. Eat the rich.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

So Paramounts payout to Trump wasn't a settlement, it was money laundering right out in the open.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The settlement payout was so that Trump wouldn’t have the FCC block the merger between Paramount and Skydance. I’m guessing the other part of that settlement was to fire Colbert.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, yeah. Fascists traditionally have made easy allies with corporations and industry leaders and such. There's a reason people know Hugo Boss made Nazi uniforms and IG Farben made Zyklon B for the concentration camps. The Nazis didn't offer anything more than money and freedom from considerations like workers' rights or safety.

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And curiously enough, Ford helped both Nazis and Soviets. Other US enterprises also had deals with both sides before the war.

What remained of IG Farben in the West was split in 1951 into its six constituent companies, then again into three: BASF, Bayer, and Hoechst.[b] These companies continued to operate as an informal cartel[citation needed] and played a major role in the West German Wirtschaftswunder. Following several later mergers the main successor companies are Agfa, BASF, Bayer and Sanofi.

Notice how no other party made their dictator-king do something like, for example, pull the licenses from outfits like Fox News for being blatant propaganda outlets.

2 months ago | Likes 184 Dislikes 9

Fox is cable it doesn't have a public broadcast license. What should be noticed is the hysterics years ago when Venezuela chose not to renew the broadcast license of a station that encouraged the coup against Hugo Chavez in 2002.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Too bad that rotten cesspools like Faux, Newsmax and OAN were allowed to exist. Democracy has lost its self-preservation instincts and here we are.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

But both sides tho /s

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So what did we learn? We learned that next time, a Democrat should definitely pull the licenses of propaganda outlets and destroy them before they destroy the country.

2 months ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 4

Instead people listened to "free speech absolutists" liars like Musk and countless Reps and Dems before him.

I've been telling people for decades that they shouldn't allow hate speech and far-right propaganda to fester. I lost every debate: everyone downvoted me all the time so this means Dems too.

They all drank the cool-aid when Reps said they were for "small govt", "freedom" and "freedom of speech" despite the mountain of counter-evidences.They didn't want to listen so now it's FAFO time.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why would you ever expect Dems to do that when they're also a right-leaning party?

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You don't get points for fighting fair.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You do IF there is a good judge and IF bad behavior gets punished. But SCOTUS is corrupt and bad behavior get REWARDED. And then you're just an idiot if you still continue to play by the rules.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Friend, that ship has sailed.

2 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Sure, but like... In a few hundred years, when the fallout settles, and the next country tries democracy...

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh I know....

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

😖 I've tried to sail that ship for years but it was only shipwreck to shipwreck. You can't make listen someone who doesn't want to listen and nobody wanted to listen nor take it seriously. Almost all Dems downplayed the danger this propaganda outlets represented while Reps were openly supporting them.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Dems are STILL downplaying them. They still refuse to get at them.

"..…but but it's cEnSoRsHiP 🥺" → They're authoritarians and fascists. They'll take all your rights away, including your own free speech. Use your goddamn brain 🧠, stop being so ideological and develop some sense of pragmatism FFS.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Err...no. Furthest that should go is properly enforced fact checking on social media. Banning what you don't agree with is a slippery slope.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 51

Fine. I've learned there's no quarter. They need to be destroyed, thoroughly

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Except it's not just "banning what you don't agree with", it's not treating an outlet that outright lies and spreads misinformation with the same legitimacy as other news networks. They're free to keep their opinion shows, they shouldn't be allowed to continue to pass it off as fact and deflect lying as opinion and entertainment. Don't let them call themselves news and don't give them the same access because they refuse to stop lying. Both sides shouldn't get equal weight when one side is false.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And the slope we are currently on is...?

2 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Far worse. You'd have neoliberal capitalism with bought democracy (status quo) like you still had 16 years ago instead of being accelerated into fascism at full speed. Don't get me wrong, the former sucks but anyone who doesn't yet understand how the latter, billionaires/corporations/capitalism on steroids, is far worse needs to buckle up because it's gonna be an enlightening experience or should I say, a "dark enlightening".

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty fucking slippery.

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Sure, but consider: you pull fox's broadcast license. All the people who watch it are mad about censorship. Many think the information was removed because the powers that be were afraid of the truth, which makes the fox bullshit feel even more true in their hearts. Now they go online looking for the truth and they find an even less regulated sphere of far right gobbledygook. Now you've got less accountability and crazier crazy people

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

As opposed to all the people who are already being fed far right gobbledygook on youtube, twitter, facebook, etc.? Somehow I doubt there are *that many* Fox News viewers who also aren't engaged with right wing content on social media.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Make them go to the fringes. Don't let it be mainstream.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope they realize too late that there's not enough eyeballs out there to keep more than one propaganda channel alive. I hope it all burns down in their faces.

2 months ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 5

Not that I watch much network tv, but now I that I know this, will be sure not to tune to the local cbs

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The local CBS affiliate probably isn't owned by CBS itself. It's probably owned by some far right wing media conglomerate instead. Of course, that's probably also true for your local NBS, ABC, and Fox affiliates too.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's very easy to have multiple propaganda channels around when you make sure ALL channels are propaganda. This is the ultimate reason why the far right are buying up all of our media, to make sure everyone always has eyeballs on them whether we like it or not.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They'll keep showing the popular stuff in between the brainwashing and most people are too oblivious to notice.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Probably. A bigger issue is that Fox "News" has always been an entertainment station masquerading as news.

CBS -is- a news network. That's why the whole 60 Minutes settlement is such bullshit.

If CBS does whatever shenanigans to claim they're now "entertainment", they're not going be publicizing the fact and none of the geriatric voters will know the difference. Hundreds of local affiliates rebroadcasting propaganda.

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think it would be cool if billionaires were prevented from buying all the important institutions in our society. I would also accept leftists using their money in these ways instead of wasting it on the fucking dnc

And thus came the death of Trek....

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

Trek? You can stream that. More concerning is that CBS is already cancelling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show will be next.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 14

Paramount is CBS... and they own the Trek franchise, so the writing style is likely to change with the change in ownership... if it doesn't get cut altogether

2 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

I'm not sure how to explain to you that Star Trek isn't as important as talk show hosts that are critical of Trump losing their shows.

Like....those two things are not comparable.

It's frustrating that I even have to say that.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 12

They are equally bad things though. Don’t you get that?

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No! What in the fuck is happening?! Are you guys fucking nuts?!

Colbert and Stewart are both being targeted directly by the Trump administration specifically because Trump does not like what they say about him. The network is bowing to that pressure and has cancelled Colbert already.

Trek could end up being censored, changed, ruined, and/or cancelled by the new owners but that is NOT because of direct pressure from Trump.

One of these is a clear 1st Amendment violation. How are they equal?!

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

I never made a comparison, so I'm not really sure what you're on about
