I’ve been watching Just Shoot Me and Jack has an ongoing frenemy thing with Trump. Makes my skin crawl every time they say his name. They also mention him a lot in Cheers when Rebecca shows up. He was the standard “rich guy” joke.
We need more of this stuff. Donnie and the pageant girls with Jeff. Donnie would walk right in to the girls in the changing areas. He is an old time pervo.
Clamp wasn't evil. He was just driven and a bit out of touch, but well-intentioned. When he saw what was going on, he helped. Instead of blaming people, he promoted several of them. Early in the movie he was all about new high tech real estate. At the end, he switched gears and de-emphasized tech so nature and community could shine.
I believe that the person’s comment is somewhat correct. Clamp was likely loosely based off of Trump. It is a highly fictionalized version that didn’t get things true to reality. But, there is definitely some relation to Trump there. They didn’t capture all of Trump’s evil, but that could have been because of producers, or rewrites, or a failure of the original writers to know Trump’s evil streak.
He was a joke LONG before 2016 but somehow everyone forgot “The Apprentice” was borderline parody of how worthless Donald Trump truly is/was. From 2014 to 2016 the opinions about him completely 180, 90, or 270’d. People, like my dad, who thought he was a joke were voting for him in 2016 because “he isn’t Shrillary Clinton!”
The greatest con trump ever pulled was convincing blue-collar, rural, midwest/midsouth America that he was one of them. Twice.
None of them are convinced he is one of them. They might be mentally indistinguishable form a gummi bear, but they know the billionaire from new york who owns multiple businesses is nothing like them. They dont care for 2 reasons.
1. They get to "own the libs" because anyone not on their team is against them, and they get to win this, no matter how dumb it looks.
2. He gives them permission to be their worst selves in public without fear or remorse.
Even the creator of the show didn't want Trump on the show but to use Trump Tower as a filming location, they had to make Trump a producer and give him screen time. The meeting room was in such disrepair that NBC had to repair it and completely replace the furniture. Also NBC had to pay the winners' salaries as Trump's businesses couldn't afford to
They know he’s not one of them. They just need someone like him to tell them that they are better than another kind of people. That’s all they require. Allow them to believe the reason they suck is a brown person’s fault.
Wasn't his whole trick: "I am succesful in business, so I'm going to treat this country like a business and fix it" but peole failed to understand 1. His success comes mostly from inheritance 2. A country is not the same as a business and 3. The economic system in which HE thrived is mostly the problem we as a country face right now and he's definately not changing that the way it needs to be changed
5. Running *anything* "like a business" is always a garbage idea, because the goal of a business (in stock market/MBA land) is to produce the cheapest product people will pay the most for.
In school in the South we learned about "carpetbaggers" coming from the North to set up shop and steal our economic wealth and political power in our own home states and how bad they were and then they just..... Voted for a carpetbagger New Yorker
The issue with Trump was that he was such a joke that when he ran for president nobody took him seriously so they broadcasted all his racist, heinous bullshit expecting him to be laughed out of the race.
Then a huge swarm of Americans saw him and thought “Wow, if a man this racist and shitty can run for president, maybe I can be racist and shitty too”. And it took us way too long to realise that far too many people weren’t seeing Trump as a joke anymore
He did not convince them he was one of them. He sold them white supremacy. They cheered for every dogwhistle and promise of nazi bullshit. There was no other reason to vote for him. Ever. Republicans in the US *are* nazis. They love being nazis, they were never good people, they are and forever shall be bigots and a blight on humanity.
Well, maybe not forever. Every day this regime lasts is time we don't have to save billions from the climate catastrophe. They voted to kill the planet.
And they did it because of hate and evil and nothing else. They'd get rid of oxygen if they got to watch someone else die half a breath before they did. Especially someone not-white. Doesn't matter what happens to them so long as someone they don't like suffers.
That's "winning" to them. Extinction is a win because it means no human they don't approve of will ever live free of their harm. Their only fear is "inferior" people thriving. They. Are. Evil.
The main draw for his base is that instead of saying “you’re bad people”, Trump embraced their faults. They’re the Deplorables.
They’ve been condemned by Democrats for decades because they didn’t apologize enough for their ancestors, didn’t follow the latest trends of political correctness, or didn’t share the enlightenment of the new-age hippies.
It doesn’t matter how bad Trump is. Ironically, he accepts his supporters as they are, and doesn’t ask them to improve. That buys undying loyalty.
To them, there is only one team. They have to win, no matter what. Lying? Fake news. Proof? I won't see it until fox News shows it. Credibility? Accountability? It's all in your head.

That's how it's done. When you want people to accept a radical change in point of view you don't confront them directly, you get them to talk themselves into it. Also why the Trump Murdoch spat is so funny.
I think I remember some of the makers of "The Apprentice" feeling like perhaps they should not have edited the show as much, because they made him seem a lot smarter than he really was.
If people want to say the Democrats are shit, I enthusiastically agree with them, but to go from that to "SO I SUPPORT THE REPUBLICANS" is such a hollow-skull move, it's insane.
No amount of Democrat insanity could ever make me vote Republican. A SANE Republican would have a pretty easy time courting my vote, but I'm yet to see that happen, and they'd have a mountain of skepticism to overcome before I even BEGAN to consider trusting one.

I miss the days where Trump was just a TV personality of an incompetent boss
CanisDirusTV
I miss him as much as I miss George Carlin. Both of them would have had a field day with Trump. Especially Carlin.

What a legend! I miss Robin so much, such a spark he was.
mikeatike
Back to the future was roasting him in the mid-80s
Pecos45
Greatness. I miss this man every day.

I was watching Mad About You (1992) and even then they were making jokes about Trump not paying bills etc

One guy missed trump and the world is worse for it.

Seeing as I've felt a bit of nostalgia for the Dubya era I wonder, with how the world is going, if I'd ever miss Trump.
I shudder to think about it.
Mechwarrior719
Gone too soon; and yet, on his own terms while that option was still open to him.
I hope he found the peace he was denied in life.
jayman0123
I'll miss Trump when he's gone. I'll miss that didn't get the chance to put him in prison where he belongs.
SirWhiskersThe3rd
You could take a shit on his grave though.
jayman0123
actually, if you scroll decently far back into my comment history, that is a trip I actually plan on taking at some point

Alas, another day passes where we are denied the opportunity to miss the other one.

Yes, but plenty of ways to improve your aim.

Donald Trump has been exactly the same for the last forty years
BayazTheBenevolent
All rich bastards are the same.

Yeah, that’s why the writers of Back to the Future 2 wrote evil future Biff to be based off of Donald Trump.

He says himself if you met him in first grade, he's the same person. I agree, mentally he is that toddler

And you should give Gremlins 2 another look as well. Guess who the owner of Clamp Tower reminds you of..

Trump did not win this election fairly or truly. There is a lot of evidence to support this claim, and more is coming out almost every day.
