An interesting take on it. Don’t know how predictive any of this is but certainly doesn’t look super rosy. #Twitter #BlueSky #XTwitter #Musk

xtwitter

Is it possible he’s doing all this on purpose? Low key? Or maybe just Occam’s razor

Plus that stellar Hail Mary lawsuit that’s gonna get thrown out… https://fortune.com/2023/07/07/elon-musk-sues-law-firm-that-led-fight-to-make-him-complete-twitter-takeover-and-charged-90-million/amp/

Suing a law firm for using the law?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Suing a firm that already spanked him once too. He really likes losing.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Concerning point one: My first thought was, "Why doesn't Kimbal just ask his brother for money?" Then I remembered the cardinal rule for grifting: "Never invest your own money in the scam."

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

The fact that the "rebrand" didn't include Twitter's About Us page () shows you just how horrible the rebrand is going.

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

The page titles still says Twitter too. They basically just changed the logo and redirected x.com to the site. I think it might be a record for the most half assed rebranding ever.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm about to do some print items from work and I'm planning to leave Twitter out of the list of online properties. I'm not going to reprint every time he needs to rebrand.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's certainly true that Twitter is what people are talking about right now.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How can these be data points when there’s no attribution to the claims (the sect for the one about CA coming after Tesla)?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The plural of anecdotes is data. Apparently.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

? I mean, I get it, citations are great and all, but this is all over the news right now. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/26/tesla-under-investigation-by-california-attorney-general.html

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's quickly becoming a national security liability. If the real deal dealmakers don't have a plan, they'll soon need it. Imagine him depending on a bridge loan from the shady mafias od the world

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Twitter's the only social media platform I've had a significant (and highly curated) presence on for the last 10+ years, and in spite of how awful Heckle-Me Elmo has made it now, I'll still be sad to see it go and lose all that personal history. But at this point, I have accounts made and ready to go on all the major potential Twitter replacements (Hive, Mastodon, BlueSky, Threads) and I'm mostly just waiting to see which one ends up really exploding in popularity once Twitter actually dies.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

let me tell ya smth about personal history. back in the day a friend kicked over my external harddrive with all my music and movies by accident. weirdly, it didnt sting as much as i expected. you can be free again ;)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

twitter has alread collapsed. at this point there is no course for recovery. Only to continue full steam ahead into the ground.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"certainly doesn't look super rosy" — I beg to differ, yes it does, just not for the Muskrat.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If I worked for Twitter - sorry X - I'd spend my days looking for a new job.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also that X is owned by Microsoft (Xbox) and a huge Japan band.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

also a manga series by CLAMP

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

also a certain video website

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

didn't Musk kick the real Xvideo off of Twitter? Wonder if they have a lawsuit case now with the rebranding

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Two weeks ago I started hearing a bog standard, mass-market social media plug that did not include Twitter. That was my signal that the end is nigh.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Elon Musk is speedrunning how to bankrupt generational wealth

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how to make twitter worth less? get rid of the established branding and replace it with random nonsense. is he doing this to own the libs or does he realize he has too much money?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Remember that scene in the original Top Gun movie when the admiral says "Your ego is writing checks that your body can't cash". Seems fitting in this instance.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😜😂😂😂😂

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And again I get bot requests on a daily base

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been enjoying my local bay area mastodon instance a lot. Visiting Twitter on occasion makes me want to shower afterwards.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look at its eye

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if Twitter was too effective at spreading real news and allowing the world to communicate and this is all a sham to dismantle the greatest public information tool to date.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

If an explanation requires conspiracy and another requires incompetence, incompetence is probably the correct answer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then we hope that Mastodon or Blue Sky can take up that mantle.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There is demand, so there will be supply.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone logged into my account from Rhode Island an hour ago.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I heard on Twitter that that was you who did that, so don't worry about it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not to mention that he leveraged Tesla capital to buy Twitter. And if Twitter goes under, Banks can call their loans and take it directly from Tesla. Which most likely will cause the stock to drop.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

May go the other way. Responsible adults taking a chunk of his Tesla stock away might make investors happy.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well investors are currently suing him for Stock Fraud as he misrepresented sales figures and lied to customers about features when knew he had already fired the team responsible for developing said feature (Thus damaging brand trust and forcing them to change or withdraw contracts). It could be enough for him to lose the company when coupled with his emergency stock dump to buy twitter after he was sued to go through with it.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Really wish I could actually get on Bluesky, but that dang invite-only/lock is in the way.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't realize that anyone actually used BlueSky, I thought it was just in perpetual beta stage. Been sitting on my request for years.

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Yeah, Bluesky is invite only and doesn't want more users for some reason.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s honestly pretty great. Still some issues but it’s like complaining that a lifeboat doesn’t have a bar y’know?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I mean aside from the "toggle neonazis on/off" slider and the fact that Jack Dorsey is running it, sure.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where are they in terms of federating? If you can't open your own server, it's just another centralized service that'll depend on going after you for money later.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s on the roadmap but not out yet. Flagship server is a lot of fun though

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope it works out. Eventually, I'd like to see servers supporting both bsky and ActivityPub and able to move data seamlessly. :)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why not mastedon? search limitations?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have any invites? None of my sphere have made it off the wait list…

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately no, I’ve given all of mine out so far

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great business plan, let’s keep everyone OFF the platform

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It’s a server scanning thing IIRC while they develop three protocol/are in beta. Sure it’ll open up sooner rather than later

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Frankly the only major issue is that it's invite only, aka the Google Plus strategy. Everything else is fixable.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember when GMail was invite only? (Or is it still?)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Though GMail isn't a social network.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, I was just reminiscing about invite-only as a strategy for building buzz

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not any more, but I do indeed remember when GMail invites were the hottest ticket in techie town.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ll give musk 1 billion for it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd put a contract in front of him where he took responsibility for all of twitter's debts, while you take the assets and run. I mean, he fell for that trick once already.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Teslas are trash. So much stuff inside of the car is loose as shit like its gonna fall apart at any second. Bunch of plastic junk.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Happens when you fire the top tier development and manufacturing teams to outsource to third party and chinese contract builders to save money so you can scam your own company into giving you inflated sales values (That they then sue you over).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bought an EV last year, test drove all the top contenders and we were looking at all the options ($$$). None of our top five were Teslas. Ended up with a Kia EV6 and love it, way, WAY better build quality than the Teslas, and designed so much better for actual driving.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really just wish Musk had been on the submarine. I really, really do.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I'm a TSLA investor and can't wait for my Cybertruck, but yeah. Dude's a 15yo

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

oof, hopefully they get better than the first models off the line. Their promo model had doors that didn't close and axles that weren't aligned, and rear lights that couldn't turn on.

You want one of those god-awful shitheaps? Why?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So is Xitter pronounced Shitter or Zitter?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

most mates are just saying 'shite site' and amongst a tonne of shitty sites we all think twitter. :-P

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That works for me - the Chinese "sh" pronunciation of "X" :D

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chitter.

Child sexual abuse material

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The idea is that the term "Pornography" implies the participants' consent and, therefore, that "Child Pornography" likens the material to legal porn. The term "Child Sexual Abuse Material" highlights the fact that children can't consent to their participation in making the material and that it necessarily entails the sexual abuse of children.

2 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 4

isnt it funny how people use these abbreviations like they mean anything outside the USA?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Child Sex Abuse Material. Musk reinstated someone who was banned for posting kiddy porn. Just when I thought my opinion of the man couldn't go any lower...

2 years ago | Likes 419 Dislikes 0

Wtf......

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude has been consorting willfully with pedos for a long time.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is there a source on this?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

https://mashable.com/article/x-twitter-ces-suspension-right-wing-account-reinstated - the account was suspended for "posting child exploitation pictures associated with the criminal conviction of an Australian man in the Philippines." Apparently the text replies to the now-deleted images are still viewable, so some of them might explain the context. I suppose best case scenario is they were (insufficiently) censored in some way in an attempt to make them useable for discussion.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I also would like a source. Not that I don’t believe it, but it’s always good to verify the truth

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is Musk himself a good enough source?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Hai, senpai. Arigato

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wish I would have read the comments instead of googling it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's always a confession. When he threw a tantrum and called they people trying to rescue those kids trapped in a cave pedos, I knew then that he's into kids.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have got to be fucking kidding right? What was his justification?

2 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 0

Right wingers were upset the account was suspended so that pos “fixed” it

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, the guy was posting info about a man who got arrested for that, with links. The links included, I guess, pics that were flagged as actual abuse material. He was discussing the conviction, not posting porn, fwiw.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Elon is probably the guys buddy, have you seen some of the shit that guy has said?

Probably, "They weren't in charge of rescuing a bunch of kids trapped in a cave, so they couldn't have done it."

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

None really. He just said "we've removed said posts and are reinstating his account". No real justification was given.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It was a Q-anon person that posted it, but to show what the liberals are doing, not for enjoyment. ... yes, it's that stupid, yes Elon is that stupid, yes Q is that stupid, yes yes yes, they're ALL stupid.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"I thought the pictures looked fine" -- Elon "pedoguy" Musk

2 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

Brings a new meaning to him wanting to play submarine with trapped children….

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I have a hunch that Mr. X was given 1 year to tank Twitter. If true, then he has until October, and this all seems to be going right on schedule.

2 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 18

Wow. Is there a tax difference between short term and long term loss? Does he have some whacked tax incentive to take massive (~$44bn) losses within a year of acquisition?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or are there bankruptcy clocks that come into play?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think he was baited into it by someone with a vested interest in turning Facebook into the social media monopoly.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So it's kind of like a real life Brewster's Millions?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So like a particularly stupid version of Brewster's Millions.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

It's what it looks like, but the truth is sadder: Inheriting a lot of money is not a qualification, and even a total moron manchild can stay rich if he's just rich *enough*.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

How did he inherit a lot of money?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

From his dad, who owned a mine in South Africa. He claims he got nothing from his dad, but his actual dad claims differently.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and given how we've seen he's an egotistical manchild who lies all the time, I'm inclined to believe his dad there.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you looked into his dad? Talk about a piece of work, I wouldn't believe him enough to tell me the time. Musk's path through life is publicly available to anyone with access to Google, it's very clear where he made his money.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Never assume something is malevolence when it can easily be explained with incompetence. There's literally no reason for him to buy and tank a company intentionally

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To what conceivable end? He isn't the sole owner--there are investors, big ones, and I don't think they'd be too receptive to the idea of his purposefully tanking the company.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Highly doubtful. He could have shut it down on day 1 if he wanted to.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He's not smart, he's just a narcissist with tech bro CEO brain rot. Stepping on rakes isn't some brilliant dance he's masterminded, he's just mentally enfeebled.

2 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

No, there was not then and there is not now any strategy or ulterior motive. He bought into his own hype, made an incredibly stupid decision, and has been trying to save face ever since. That is all this is.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I never understood this take. Musk has investors, yes, but he spent a huge amount of his own money and had to sell shares in his other companies to buy Twitter. Also remember that he tried to back out of that deal and was forced to complete it when Twitter sued him over it. There is no nefarious master plan at work here; what you're seeing is what happens when Musk actually has to run his own company, with no one to shield the company from his stupid fucking ideas.

2 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

He met with someone close to Putin just before buying it, he also came out in favor of Russian aggression at the same time. It's not too far a stretch

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's starting to be the only take that even sort of makes sense. Even taking about Musk, it's hard to believe someone is actually rich and stupid enough to drop 11 figures(!!!) on a company that had never turned a profit in its existence just to then do every single thing wrong in the most spectacular and public way possible. He couldn't be fucking things up harder if he were trying, and that begs the question of if he actually is.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He never wanted to buy it but since he was forced to, he might as well break the liberals favorite toy.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My theory is that he did not actually want to buy twitter. He just screwed up to the point he had to. The minute he mad the offer, he did not think they would take it. The people incharge of twitter know he, offered to much and immediately excepted his offer. He then started trying to get out of the deal. Fake accounts? Etc. But the twitter people said no backsies and took him to court to make him go though with the offer. He then brought in cyber security pros, and tried to scare the twitter1/2

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

He got high off his own supply, thought better of it too late, and tried to get out of the deal. After realizing he had no case, he agreed to complete the purchase as if it was his idea rather than something the court would have forced him to do anyway. It’s all a desperate attempt at saving face and maintaining the illusion he is a genius. He has delusions that if he somehow pulls it off he’ll be able to resuscitate that image but is so out of his depth he keeps digging the hole deeper.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You're downplaying how stupid he was. Just saying "I'll buy it" wasn't enough to seal him to the deal. Twitter sent him an agreement, and he signed it, likely without reading it or consulting with a lawyer, which bound him to the price he quoted. I have no idea what he thought he signed, but he clearly didn't think it was a purchase agreement based on his subsequent action.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Oh I think he new, what he did not know was twitter has never been profitable in its existence. Once he was told that he panicked. I think he was to full of himself to ask anyone before it was to late. All the shit he has tried now is just random crap to see if he could make a fundamentally money losing business profitable. No one was going to make twitter profitable, so I can't blame him for that, but buying it in the first place was stupid as hell.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Twitter was a publicly traded company, their unprofitability was a matter of public record

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think he wanted the data for his AI company and also have a platform like Zuck. Clearly hes running it into the ground, I do wonder if Twitter files for bankruptcy. Hes kinda been lucky with Tesla stock rising lately but there could be a unique situation where Tesla stock tanks and dooms Twitter.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their profit or not would be public knowledge as share holders woulf know. He did not need to be told after agreeint to buy it. Amazon has not turned a profit for years. Star Wars the movie has never made a profit.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People into dropping it, but nope they would not, as they knew the offer was to good to be true. It came down to the wire and he blinked first and showed up with bathroom sink (i think he was trying for a kitchen sink bun, but it was clearly a bathroom sink) think his lawyers told him that if he went through with it he would have to sit for a deposition were the twitter lawyers could ask him any question they wanted on the record. He was being accused of sexual harassment at the time.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

To be clear, Musk has admitted in a recently filed lawsuit that his suit to get out of the deal had no merit whatsoever, and he was aware that it had no merit. He tried to bluff them and it didn't work so he dropped the suit.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My funny realization is that he paid to sue Twitter, then paid the bills Twitter had from the lawyers to sue himself. Without forgetting that he recently sued the lawyers that billed Twitter to try to get his money back.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah people who worked with him seemed to report that their job was wrangling this idiot manchild away from destroying the company.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He is a hype man a very good one most of the time. (Reminds me of Steve Jobs). But people like that need to be rained in or they start to believe their own hype and think they are infallible. Then they start to just do things because they thought them up not because they are good ideas (buying twitter, or self treating their health). Add that to the fact musk went down some crazy right wing rabbit hole and won't shutup and we have a crazy shitshow.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He was good at being a hype man when he was kept just enough out of the public sphere to not constantly make an ass out of himself, likely by wranglers, yeah

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SpaceX has an entire executive and intern division just to keep Musk away from the actual engineering and daily operations. I recall him firing a bunch of engineers because he thought they were arrogant (And smarter than him), but those engineers turned out to be interns and executives not actual engineers and they had been showing him bull to distract him.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To me, this take falls into a somewhat believable conspiracy theory. Take down Twitter while other sites, like reddit, are also pushed into lesser use. This drives people to have less awareness of events going on in the world by deglobalizing information that isn't controlled. Suddenly you can end up with events happening without the masses having instant awareness and when things finally get out the information is too old to do anything about it. Still haven't seen a real replacement.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd buy in terms of say that's why certain investors were okay giving him money they knew he would burn. Musk makes money, they make money, Musk crashes, twitter crashes... It is a win eitherway if you are an authoritarian regime

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Given how much benefit we have seen from rapid information access, i would like to know if a good replacement comes around. I think a really effective solution would have to be backwards compatible. Like if tweets show in new-thing but new-thing-posts wont show on twitter.
