Mama Loves Her Chil'ren

wholesome

I like how she tries to saddle the cub on her shoulder like they do with their own infants.

Every time I see an orangutan I see Lanky Kong in my head.

That’s similar to how in the cartoons you end up with a dad that’s a crab and a daughter that’s a whale.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That orangutan is a child too. Should still have a mother.

Mummy looks like she has her hands full!

That's a whole found family of "DO NOT FUCK WITH" right there.

Absolutely adorable and I'm going to assume they all lived happily together without looking further into it because that's where I'm at today.

That is Suryia, a male orangutan at the Myrtle Beach Safari Preserve. He started mimicking the caretakers when they were feeding the tigers, resulting in the interactions above. Myrtle Beach breeds tiger cubs for conservation purposes, they're only allowed supervised interaction when they're young and as adults they are either kept in their own enclosures or transferred to other facilities for their care.

Yes I understand that the Library needs protection, but why, out of all the creatures, tigers?!

oook!

"They are fluffy" ...Of couse... But have you considered that their CLAWS can ruin the books? You know... The books in the Library?!

GNU Sir Terry Pratchett.

Sorry folks. This is one of those "abusing animals for Internet likes" situations. The place that does this, and EVERY place that puts babies of different species together like this, is a shit hole that treats their animals horribly.

My first thought as well.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

Whhyyyyy you said that?? I just was so down today, then I saw this and kinda made me happy and now I'm sad again 😔

Well, they seem to get along and look happy from what I can see. We do the same with pets, place kittens and puppies alone with humans.

Take the love where you can get it and give it where you can! It's not a perfect world and the universe is not fair.

Stupid comment. Cohabitation is common at zoos. Not EVERY place that puts different species together treat their animals horribly. Grow up.

8 months ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 27

No it is not.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

Well, the place that did this (Myrtle Beach Safari) was run by Doc Antle. You know, the one from Tiger King who was convicted of wildlife trafficking?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's common in animals that a. get along together and b. are from the same regions. Not natural predators of a specific herbivore. SOMETIMES you get "emotional support" domestic critters.

Yeah, she's just doing a bit of Baby Sitting ♡

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone's already posted a link about this specific place anyway and it's shit. Selling animals off to unscrupulous buyers, doing photo ops with baby animals etc.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

I don't see any herbivores in that video so I'm not sure what you're getting on about here....

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

...Orangutans are herbivores

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, they're not. Like most primates, orangutans are omnivores.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think the only exception to that is placing labradors with single orphaned cheetas. Chills them out since they're prone to anxiety, and cheetas are generally a lot more harmless than lions or especially tigers, who don't even live in packs. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/cheetah-dog-furry-friendship

Also they need high-energy running buddies!

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Actually they use them with most cheetahs at zoos. Again for the

Yes, that is true. Good point

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Orangutans are so amazing. I genuinely hope that once we're gone, they get to inherit the world next.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They don't want it.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

isnt there that belief from people who interact with them that they are just as smart as people but act more like animals so they dont have to work in a office?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The legend is that they talk when humans aren’t around, for fear that if human ms hear them, we would make them work for us.

Which we absolutely would.

We suck.

Bonobos are the best bet if they survive, and I wish them the best.

I kinda wanna fuck with octopus DNA, give em a chance to get past a few of their evolutionary roadblocks

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Cephalopods in general need this.

Yes, I too would like to create Cthulhu.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watched "my octopus teacher" - fairly certain that dude did exactly that.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

could be they just need the time, that it takes another few failed evolutions, to get the point themselves...

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I just want to prevent sex from being fatal for their species without hoping for a few million years to do it for them

I had no idea... damn
