14 years ago, Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 Bitcoin to make the first Crytocurrency purchase - for two large pizzas.
That’s approximately $670,000,000 at today’s prices.
It took two days for someone to take him up on the offer.

Whatever happened to the 10,000 Btc? /gallery/kGtHZN7

It’s truly weird to me how many people hate even any mention of Bitcoin. Even an interesting piece of history like this, on its anniversary.

10,000 bitcoin is only worth $670,000,000 if you get someone to pay $670,000,000 for it. It's still not functional as a currency. Every so-called "bitcoin ATM" I've ever seen only lets you exchange dollars for bitcoin and not vice versa

Yesterday, $16,879,331,903 worth of Bitcoin exchanged hands. $17 billion. 0.67 billion isn’t a challenge. There is a great deal of misinformation about Bitcoin circulating.

Yeah for a currency to work it needs to be stable. And the stable coin attempts to do this have failed

Institutional traders, market makers, and hedgefunds trade it. There's about $18 billion in volume each day. You could move $670m in Bitcoin with ease.

He wrote, “or order it for me from a delivery place”

Yea that's what makes it so weird when he, after already mentioning that pizza delivery is a thing, goes out of his way to explain this new and difficult to explain concept he wants to experience.

Oh man, it took me some time to come to terms with me using 150 bitcoins to buy weed 10 years ago. Don't know how Laszlo feels like about that situation these days, its kinda like gambling, you win some you lose some. I never had any trust in bitcoin, I just figured out it was some gimmick, when I was working I left my pc on and it made few coins a week, never had the idea in my mind they might really skyrocket into higher value some years later..

Back then I would spin up new servers for a company I worked for. Entire racks of servers that needed to be stress tested. So, we would out Bitcoin mining software on it and let them grind for a day. Sometimes we’d provide a block of 50 Btc. We ended up just throwing it away once the testing was done. I often think about those 100s of Bitcoin… I wonder if they miss me like I sorely miss them :)
