In common usage, climate change describes global warming — the ongoing increase in global average temperature — and its effects on Earth's climate system. Climate change in a broader sense also includes previous long-term changes to Earth's climate. — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_change

And just like in raiders of the lost ark, they’re also Nazis.

All I can think of when seeing this, is the end of Raiders of the lost ark. When they open the ark and the evil Nazi melts

Is he supposed to look like that bad guy from the first Indiana Jones movie?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but can you imagine how foolish and stupid we'll all feel if we stop polluting invest in green renewable energy? We'll only have clean air and water and food. We'll only have beautiful natural landscapes. We'll feel like such idiots when if we did that and found out that global warming wasn't actually happening.

Quick! Let's close all nuclear plants so we can burn more coal. Germany is showing the way.

Holy shit....it IS Porkins!!!

That's the thing that has driven me crazy ever since I was a little kid. An asteroid could be hurtling towards the planets with a 100% chance of devastation and people's first words would be "whos going to pay to stop it?"

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

the climate deniers are mostly scared people who think they will have to pay even more taxes than they do. Same reason why they hate immigrants.

There's been at least one innovative proposal regarding this:

I often think of how miserable it must be for outside pets while we burn the planet from our AC houses

Wrong film reference, though

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How do you figure that?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, my mistake. It threw me off because it's not the same dude in the hat character.

we have left the global warming phase and entered the global boiling phase.

"We can't afford a solution." Meaning that there's no way to save all life on Earth without corporations losing profit. Not money they already have, just profit. God forbid corporate profit go down by even $1.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not even going down, just not going up by more than they previously went up.

Gotta chase the fantasy of infinite growth.

They're going to keep denying it until there is no more food on the shelves and no more is coming.

Okay, but we’ll make our Q3 targets, right?

Climate change is a natural occurrence. It’s happened since the birth of the planet. What we are experiencing isn’t just “climate change”. We are experiencing a climate crisis.

Is there a word for these people in English? Something to describe “adhering to concepts subjectively dictated at the whims of someone else, even as those lead to one’s detriment with the adherence stemming from the belief that everything not supported by the person who uttered those those concepts must be wrong”? Uneducated doesn’t do it because that can be fixed. “Uneducatable?”

Watched a VR show about the arctic ice melting. Basically the hemocline is the polar cap that keeps the warm water deep down. As the polar cap melts, the warm water can rise to the surface and dissipate heat, which increases global warming. The arctic is basically a massive heat sink that we're destroying.

* halocline... oops, my bad

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They made an action film about it. On the bad side, they made it look like everything would settle down after a few days. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319262/

Pretty soon, it'll get to the point that people will go out more like Belloq than this guy...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The moment it was allowed to be known as climate change the cause was lost.

I’m convinced it’s like a game of chicken for the rich and powerful. Who will cave and ‘waste’ their fortune first to try to make change to fix issues, leaving the others to still be mega rich in a world that isn’t doomed anymore. However, it’s looking like it will be too late for all that. Like X company doesn’t need to stop polluting because Y already did enough, so business continues as normal for X.

I have embraced the fact we’re all gonna die. Just kick back and watch Mother Nature show her wrath, should be an amazing show.

Governments will fail, or be overthrown, and mass migration will destabilize countries as people flee places where it's no longer possible to live. We will see wars and terrorism because of it - make no mistake about it.

and mob violence and cannibalism. But I'm going to be honest, all the awful things that will happen will have a silver lining watching the rich get roasted and eaten by their own security.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am still amazed by the people who believe this world is great and fine enough that without change future generations of humans will be fne

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh, I lost faith in humanity long ago. I am far from amazed, I just roll with it and go “ah yes, more evidence that humanity should just end. Will wonders ever cease. Hey, Nature, hurry up, this is getting dull to watch.”
