Yea, even the in Scandinavia (/gallery/norwegian-prison-cells-fErQTZM) people usually don't want to end up in prison.

You think that is bad, imagine an entire economy structured around forcing people either into for-profit prisons or the military!

Read a story years ago about elderly people in Japan who are caring for an ailing spouse who commit petty crimes so they can spend a couple of days in jail as a respite.

I just saw on the news the other day that a 26 year old killed a giy just to get prison healthcare for his back pain. I think the guy he killed was the one that implemented the AI denial system for it. Sad story, byt at least he'll get his back fixed.

witnessed an old man throw cans of soup at a bank window (I assume they were from a food bank...) because he wanted a roof, and food..

My teeth are.... bad. Dentists have recommended ripping them all out and getting dentures. With insurance that would cost 80,000 dollars out of pocket. Now, dental pain is one of the worst pains you can have because it is not just localized at some random tooth, no the pain permeates throughout the surrounding area and into the temples. The last part, think about the worst headache you have ever had, now think about that headache being UNENDING. no pain meds are going to fix pt 1

It, antibiotics would but you have to have the extra cash. The only way to escape the pain, that, because it's giving you an incessant, sharp headache disallowing you to form any kind of coherent thought, is to go to sleep. And then, before your eyes are even open, the pain is back. You did not wake up. You were awoken by pain. Now, prisons don't want to deal with your agony and inability to follow basic, common, established prison routines or commands pt 2

Because of your thought canceling headache. So, they don't really give you a choice about ripping all of your teeth out and giving you a set of dentures for free. So, if you made it this far this is really just a wholehearted agreement that even for dental not just medical Healthcare it would be quicker and cheaper to commit a crime and go to prison to begin to be healthy again. Pt 3 of 3.

I know the ripping of the teeth out is free for afact, but I'm not sure the dentures are.

The latter is not as well researched I'll admit, however of that 80, 000 dollar bill the dentures for a full set are only about 7,000 of it.

That's all kinds of fucked up, tbh. Unfortunately, on most universal healthcare systems dental care other than removal is not covered either, so I'm sorry to say it would also been a financially debilitating issue... although not as big, probably

Thank you for that information. Yeah, dental is often overlooked. Perhaps, because it's not so relevant anymore. I, for, one shouldn't have let my teeth get so bad. I knew it was happening but chose not to establish habits I didn't have.

As someone who has been dealing with TMJD for 5+ years, you nailed it.
Teeth pain is horrendous and debilitating. There have been days I've gone to bed hoping I don't wake up because the pain is so bad.

I am so sorry, my guy. That's rough, and I have been there. I hope that some sort of reprieve comes and stays for you.

"Those poors get 3 square meals a day and an annual doctor checkup on MY tax dollars!"

(even though prisons are more privatized than ever for the free slave labor)

While I’d argue it should be 0%, “only” 8% of prisoners in the US are in private prisons. The vast majority of prisons are publicly owned.

They're privatized, for sure, but they still get government funding. It's not like they function solely on slave labor. That wouldn't be profitable enough for proper kickbacks to the politicians.

And prisoners pay for healthcare

Indigent offenders, which is to say offenders with no money on their accounts, don't.
