#27 how?!?!

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There are 2 sapphire disks with the hands attached in the middle sandwiched by the case, one for the hour hand and one for the minute hand. This allows the hands to “move” independently from one another. The sapphire disks connect to the movement around the edge, and as the disks move, it appears that the hour hand and minute hand also move.

Because the sapphire disks are transparent, it makes the hands look like they're floating

Thank you! It's a beautiful watch, and I've never seen anything like it before

#27 HOW!?!?

Because the sapphire disks are transparent, you cannot see how the hands are moving.

And there was me thinking that you could do it cheaper by using acrylic gears and filling the middle with the correct viscosity of clear oil so the acrylic "vanishes". Maybe that's the Temu version....

Thank you very much, Science side of Imgur!

Do they have any pointers for folding clothes on your lap in front of the TV?

#11 Reminds me of the Chroma in the mural in Foundation.

#4 I always wondered how alchemists made their transmutation circles in FMA

I know I missed a lot of cool shit cause after the sweater betrayed me by not giving a finished shot, I stomped off.

#9 This person is waaay wealthier than I am.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah this is not good. That is so much unnecessary waste. You're just shopping in your own house, I honestly don't get it

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That person, in order to consume a liter of beverage, must produce an unholy amount of waste.

#13 what is this pen called?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's called a fluid pen or fluid writer pen.

It's deceptive, for sure. The frame rate and shutter speed of the video hide the true speed of the blades. It's turning way faster that what we can see from this side of the camera.

#11 TIL that fountain pens' tips flex to let ink flow.... amazing.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's pretty neat. It's definitely one of those things you never really think about until it's pointed out, and then have that moment of both "that's insane" and also "but it's so obvious, how else would it work?" at the same time. At least for me, it was like that.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why did I read "fountain penis" though

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And those were just straight lines… check out this quick flourish: https://youtube.com/shorts/kK2pyYM4dEQ?si=gXh9T4dH0O5msHkH

i had a whole bunch more like that, with beautiful penmanship but imgur shat the bed when trying to upload them. converting to mp4 introduced horrible artifacting.

#9 I've never understood the need to take something from one package and put it into... another package?

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It looks more pleasant.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On TV ads they just eat out of the package!

#27 I owned one of these in the late '60s. I kept it going for decades, it was one of my favorite watches.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its a really cool movement design. Took me a minute to figure out how the floating hands effect worked.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wish I still had it. :'(
