not only did he click on the button that specifically says "share with community", but hes looking down on others while being on nazi/gore twitter AND hes also paying for twitter. https://imgur.com/QZvGsZT
If it was indeed an Image storage site like it was back in the day, there wouldn't be a comments section, favorites, and so on. You just assumed that the site still was the same and thats your fault.
The homepage opens up to a feed and the upload button is clearly labeled "new post". Even if you still had that mindset as an image host you'd see the site has changed and that was over 15 years ago.
Just gonna point out that using a /public site/ as your image storage location is not great wisdom regardless. If you're just moving images around and don't intend to share them with others, /why are you using a website designed for sharing images with others/ instead of a usb cord, or mobile share, or a non-public cloud storage, or any of the dozen of ways designed to move images around.
See, sometimes you need an image accessible through a URL. For example, if you report a bug on the game Ark on its official forums, you'll see that there is no way to actually upload a file as attachment in any way. You have to do this via some external image sharing website.
That's just a reflection of the world at large. My sister went with me to buy a car once, and several times people were weirdly suspicious we weren't a couple, which is especially weird because my little sister looks like me minus a couple thousand miles in a blond wig from the neck up. It's like they thought we were lying about it
The funniest part is that you literally can't share anything and have comments on it without hitting "POST TO GALLERY", so this poster is literally doing that on purpose and this tweet is probably fake.
Gotta love when people talk about "imgurians" as if it's not millions of people online at different times, catching or missing different posts at different stages of intoxication/sleep depravation/agitation. I've seen radically opposite opinions getting upvoted or down voted on this site on different occasions. We're definitely not one thing.
"We're not a hivemind!" screams every community with hivemind mentality. All of em do it: Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, 4chan, Imgur. Sure there's disagreements on stuff but to pretend there aren't prevailing popular sentiments that drive what content gets seen by all versus what gets buried is just silly.
To pretend that a random user sub post getting comments about the subject being ugly is reflective of 300 million users is fkn stupid beyond belief. "Imgurians are disgusting" says guy who probably had 40 people out of millions see his idiot accidental upload and 5 of them decided to insult him. Incomprehensibly fkn stupid conclusion to draw.
I don't include myself in "we". I don't even know if that means anything apart from an intolerance of the extreme right political spectrum. That's not exactly a niche that constitutes a "community" in my mind. Or at least it shouldn't be
because the way the design phones OS. Most of the time, when you plug a phone into a computer viz USB, it just starts charging it. They have a special setting in their user settings(for some phones, its even a developer setting that you have to do a special ritual to access) in order to turn it into a "storage device" style platform, making the computer think its just like an external hdd. And sometimes, phones create weird file types that arent recognized by some computers.
That just proves my point. The os shouldn't matter. I've sort of done it by setting up my own cloud and using few apps/services. But I shouldn't have to.
It is the default. After uploading an image you only get to share it publicly after completing additional requirements like adding a title and then clicking through a confirmation dialogue asking if you're sure you want to share it with the community. Neither of those requirements can be completed until you've already successfully uploaded it as hidden.
"The realization that I have no clue how this image storage site actually works fills me with impotent shame. The only possible course of action is to insult everyone who does have a clue. That'll fix my massive inferiority complex for sure. Also, my new cybertruck will definitely get me all the babes."
"To believe that anything "uploaded" to the www can really be "private," is delusional" I help people understand this by responding to anyone saying "cloud storage" with "oh, so you save all your photos to someone elses computer"
As a software engineer, I've seen people would rather blame a technology for being bad than realize they are incompetent with it. Even the most foundational ideas, literally had someone tell me that "joining tables are bad" in SQL. Joining data is the reason why relational databases exist.
I can understand blaming a technology for being hard to understand, but this is like getting angry and insulting at another person pointing out that the door you're trying to pull open is marked "push".
As someone who has been online since the early days of AOL, it's basically always been like that whenever women show up anywhere a bunch of young males are at.
As someone who was using BBS in the days when going online meant torturing a machine until it screamed just the right way, just because something has always been a problem, doesn't mean we need to accept that it's okay.
And I moved here because it was so much /better/ than 9gag. It's still far from great, honestly, but it is a lot better than it was. And a whooole lot better than 9gag, still.
Yes, you are. All the ponypervs and animepervs, sexualilzing animals and schoolgirls all the time. I'd be really curious how they rate on the "most muted" list of this site.
We could probably find serial killers or other sociopaths with nice hobbies. The horsepervert shares such disturbing, disgusting stuff on other platforms, that no nice hobby can make it look like a decent human person.
Imagine being so bad at using an Image Storage Site that you can't stop your pictures from being posted to the public gallery for votes and comments, and then you complain that it gets votes and comments.
I’ve literally got thousands of pictures stored here and have never made 1 image public….on here. I share them on model building sites like Largescale planes and Britmodeller where they’re supposed to be…amongst other modelling nerds
It's actually not super intuitive at first, especially when you rarely use it and they overhaul the UI. Also, I feel criticizing overly and unnecessarily negative comments is completely valid.
Usually in my experience it's meant for specific image sharing - like I might not want to post to the wider imgur community, but I can upload to imgur and get a handy link to send to specific people.
That's how I started using imgur as a social media site. Originally I was just posting private images here because I was a regular user of a forum that didn't support embedding images directly into posts, you had to upload it elsewhere and add a direct link to the image.

Yeah but sometimes you want to post something publicly but not in the “social media, everyone look!” sense but just so that some small niche of interested people can see it or find it via search later.

I mean yeah people lie for upvotes, but also some versions of the phone app used to default to public for some reason (pretty sure they fixed it). I’m just saying I can imagine being a bit annoyed if I accidentally posted something to public and people just started being cruel. Could be either one honestly
In addition to having to select "public" it makes me add a title before selecting that option. Might depend on the platform but for me, it's literally impossible to do it by accident :-p
Looks like the mobile version still defaults to Share to Community. I looked at a few posts that were pretty obviously just image storage and "via iPhone" was on most of them.
I’m on an iPhone and when I upload stuff now it defaults to hidden. But previous versions you would have to specifically select that (it automatically defaulted to public). I’m guessing that’s 99% of the problem.

Seems to depend on your platform. For PC users it's not the default and you have to specifically select and confirm that you want it public.
