Damn Imgurians, you ruined Imgur!

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You Imgurians sure are a contentious lot.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

not only did he click on the button that specifically says "share with community", but hes looking down on others while being on nazi/gore twitter AND hes also paying for twitter. https://imgur.com/QZvGsZT

3 months ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 7

And the button that said "Are you sure you want to share with the community?"

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

we're all mad here

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The sewer rats on twitter acting like they're in the high rise? Those worms are getting their shit straight from the source.

3 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

If it was indeed an Image storage site like it was back in the day, there wouldn't be a comments section, favorites, and so on. You just assumed that the site still was the same and thats your fault.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The homepage opens up to a feed and the upload button is clearly labeled "new post". Even if you still had that mindset as an image host you'd see the site has changed and that was over 15 years ago.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine calling other people sewer rats when they are posting on Nazi Propaganda Generator...And paying the Nazi King himself for the privilege.

Twitter is such trash, lol

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just gonna point out that using a /public site/ as your image storage location is not great wisdom regardless. If you're just moving images around and don't intend to share them with others, /why are you using a website designed for sharing images with others/ instead of a usb cord, or mobile share, or a non-public cloud storage, or any of the dozen of ways designed to move images around.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

See, sometimes you need an image accessible through a URL. For example, if you report a bug on the game Ark on its official forums, you'll see that there is no way to actually upload a file as attachment in any way. You have to do this via some external image sharing website.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

...Yeah, that's why I said "and you don't intend to share them with others"...

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or, if you are using this as storage or to transfer to a specific group of people, you can mark the pay "private"

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Sewer rats unite!

REPRESENT

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kinda sorta in the same vein. Almost. Maybe. Perhaps.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I... make sure my posts aren't published to the community.

3 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

Yep. I have a number of posts specifically made to share with friends, not the wider community. It is not hard to make private posts.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I’m left leaning, but not dem or republican, Imgur is an echo chamber and I’ve seen members not being wholesome

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are we sewer rats?

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And I’ll do it again!

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Huh?

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's just a reflection of the world at large. My sister went with me to buy a car once, and several times people were weirdly suspicious we weren't a couple, which is especially weird because my little sister looks like me minus a couple thousand miles in a blond wig from the neck up. It's like they thought we were lying about it

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's not surprising. Many people often couple up with people who look like themselves. Look up "couple or siblings?"

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair though that would be a perfectly understandable assumption to make if you're from Alabama.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Or if they were European royalty.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The funniest part is that you literally can't share anything and have comments on it without hitting "POST TO GALLERY", so this poster is literally doing that on purpose and this tweet is probably fake.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i assure you that i saw this tweet for real this morning haha (and i posted it intentionally so that we could all have a laugh)

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta love when people talk about "imgurians" as if it's not millions of people online at different times, catching or missing different posts at different stages of intoxication/sleep depravation/agitation. I've seen radically opposite opinions getting upvoted or down voted on this site on different occasions. We're definitely not one thing.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

"We're not a hivemind!" screams every community with hivemind mentality. All of em do it: Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, 4chan, Imgur. Sure there's disagreements on stuff but to pretend there aren't prevailing popular sentiments that drive what content gets seen by all versus what gets buried is just silly.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

To pretend that a random user sub post getting comments about the subject being ugly is reflective of 300 million users is fkn stupid beyond belief. "Imgurians are disgusting" says guy who probably had 40 people out of millions see his idiot accidental upload and 5 of them decided to insult him. Incomprehensibly fkn stupid conclusion to draw.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We kind of have a tendency to paint other demographics with the same brush though

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't include myself in "we". I don't even know if that means anything apart from an intolerance of the extreme right political spectrum. That's not exactly a niche that constitutes a "community" in my mind. Or at least it shouldn't be

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Learn how to use the website and don't make your own storage into public posts, idiots

3 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 7

People learn by making mistakes. It's really super cool to insult them for it.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 10

Wtf are you talking about, they're insulting us for their own mistake

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

If they respond to their mistake by blaming the people using the site, they don't really deserve to be treated nicely.

3 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

The mobile version still defaults to public.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Sounds like they need to learn how to change the default settings

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yes, blame the user for not knowing about a workaround for a bug in the product.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

For me (on mobile) it defaults to the previous post's settings.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Related: Why is it still cancer pain to move/share files between my phone's/computers? After 30 years of internet, it is still a nightmare.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

because the way the design phones OS. Most of the time, when you plug a phone into a computer viz USB, it just starts charging it. They have a special setting in their user settings(for some phones, its even a developer setting that you have to do a special ritual to access) in order to turn it into a "storage device" style platform, making the computer think its just like an external hdd. And sometimes, phones create weird file types that arent recognized by some computers.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't really like Apple, but if you're willing to drink their kool-aid and probably give up your privacy, icloud photos has this figured out.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That just proves my point. The os shouldn't matter. I've sort of done it by setting up my own cloud and using few apps/services. But I shouldn't have to.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why hidden should be the default on all platforms

3 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 5

It IS the default here tho...

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I agree. It wasn't default in the past but that tweet is from yesterday

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is the default. After uploading an image you only get to share it publicly after completing additional requirements like adding a title and then clicking through a confirmation dialogue asking if you're sure you want to share it with the community. Neither of those requirements can be completed until you've already successfully uploaded it as hidden.

"To believe that anything "uploaded" to the www can really be "private," is delusional" I help people understand this by responding to anyone saying "cloud storage" with "oh, so you save all your photos to someone elses computer"

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So you react by shaming them and mocking them literally proving the point of the picture. man that really is accurate.

"And cure me for my small dick obsession"

Obssession with his OWN small dick, right? Right?

Wellllll... you should ask him. Nowadays you can't exclude anything.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a software engineer, I've seen people would rather blame a technology for being bad than realize they are incompetent with it. Even the most foundational ideas, literally had someone tell me that "joining tables are bad" in SQL. Joining data is the reason why relational databases exist.

3 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I can understand blaming a technology for being hard to understand, but this is like getting angry and insulting at another person pointing out that the door you're trying to pull open is marked "push".

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're not disgusting!

...I do wanna see his sister's picture, though.

3 months ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 10

If someone disgusting in some way, maybe physically, maybe not, calls you disgusting... do you care?

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes you are, some of you.

3 months ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

I mean, years ago this place was pretty fucking awful

3 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

It's way better, now, but it's still not good, unfortunately.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It got out of control. I for one don't miss the endless comments "Albums!"

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

It was honestly pretty gross how sexually aggressive people got every time they saw a hint of a woman on the site

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

There was also a lot of antifeminism and misogyny.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who has been online since the early days of AOL, it's basically always been like that whenever women show up anywhere a bunch of young males are at.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As someone who was using BBS in the days when going online meant torturing a machine until it screamed just the right way, just because something has always been a problem, doesn't mean we need to accept that it's okay.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And I moved here because it was so much /better/ than 9gag. It's still far from great, honestly, but it is a lot better than it was. And a whooole lot better than 9gag, still.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, you are. All the ponypervs and animepervs, sexualilzing animals and schoolgirls all the time. I'd be really curious how they rate on the "most muted" list of this site.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never mute anyone. Then again, I'm usually in Most Viral Newest so the kind of things most likely to be muted tend not to get there.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of them always does. The horsepervert, for example. And the're flooding the site once they start.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Elbow also has a second completely unrelated content, her cash register restoration projects.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We could probably find serial killers or other sociopaths with nice hobbies. The horsepervert shares such disturbing, disgusting stuff on other platforms, that no nice hobby can make it look like a decent human person.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Imagine being so bad at using an Image Storage Site that you can't stop your pictures from being posted to the public gallery for votes and comments, and then you complain that it gets votes and comments.

3 months ago | Likes 990 Dislikes 57

Typical MAGAts

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

Imagine caring one way or another. I just move on when i see something obviously meant as an upload for private use.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was storage, not sharing.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

dangit

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve literally got thousands of pictures stored here and have never made 1 image public….on here. I share them on model building sites like Largescale planes and Britmodeller where they’re supposed to be…amongst other modelling nerds

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. That and imagine being so self centered that you have to take dig on others just doing their thing.

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

You know the saying, right? "Better to be silent and thought a fool..." Didn't have to PROVE it!

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It even warns you when posting publicly.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Imagine defending people that shat on this guy

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It's actually not super intuitive at first, especially when you rarely use it and they overhaul the UI. Also, I feel criticizing overly and unnecessarily negative comments is completely valid.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's a predictably imgur way of saying "forgot to change it to private". Someone needs a nap.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I legit had no idea this was a social media site for years, yet I’ve been storing all my pictures as private for a decade.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And when a woman goes out with "slutty" clothes she's asking for it, right?

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

imagine using an image storage site as your go to social media. even worse imagine using it for your news.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

People store images online? I guess I’ve heard of it. I have my phone and servers I guess to store my shit on. Is that the purpose? The lack of space?

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usually in my experience it's meant for specific image sharing - like I might not want to post to the wider imgur community, but I can upload to imgur and get a handy link to send to specific people.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m just here for the memes, pics, gifs that tickle, delight, inform, and disgust. Lol

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's how I started using imgur as a social media site. Originally I was just posting private images here because I was a regular user of a forum that didn't support embedding images directly into posts, you had to upload it elsewhere and add a direct link to the image.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair Imgurians have come a long way. This is probably one of the most trans positive places I frequent, and though there's still a lot of objectification and comments about physical appearance, it's scores better than it was five or ten years ago even. It's really striking when you happen upon an old post and see the comments and need to take a shower after... Don't forget we started off tied to reddit and everything that comes with that.

3 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Furry acceptance too.

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Slow down there, pal...

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

About that username tho

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I swear to God I made it before I even knew what a furry was 😢

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, yeah, but calling a photo of a stranger ugly is still gross behavior. Uncalled for.

3 months ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

I like to think we have grown a fair bit and in general more respectful. he right tho, we are funny little rats

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Underrated comment. People focusing on 'BUH YOU SHARED THEM', yeah. Doesn't give y'all license to be shitty humans.

3 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

That was me! I posted a screenshot of Morrowind so that a friend could see my character. Someone very helpfully explained how to not make that happen every single time. Been doing that, til recently I posted a pic of my kitty!

3 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah but sometimes you want to post something publicly but not in the “social media, everyone look!” sense but just so that some small niche of interested people can see it or find it via search later.

THAT is what is culturally broken in IMGUR, because it will get downvotes with a handful of commercial saying “nobody cares about this thing that isn’t hot trivial algorithm trash, YOU IDIOT”.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That sounds like Reddit.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Handful of mean toxic comments. (Not “commercial”, typo)

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's probably a use case more suitable for a format like a booru site or something, which is more specialised for searchable indexing. Imgur is set up more as a firehose type content feed. That's not a flaw, it's just a tool for a different job than what you're hoping to accomplish. At that point it's like saying that hammers are terrible tools because you've never been able to cleanly cut wood with one.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't mean to share it publicly! I'm so embarrassed! (Unless it gets lots of upvotes)

3 months ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 3

I mean yeah people lie for upvotes, but also some versions of the phone app used to default to public for some reason (pretty sure they fixed it). I’m just saying I can imagine being a bit annoyed if I accidentally posted something to public and people just started being cruel. Could be either one honestly

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk, I selected "public" and then expected it to be private. This must be someone else's fault.

3 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Thanks Marie Calendar!

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Felt cute, might delete later (unless everyone validates me)

3 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And it takes effort to post it publicly. It's not the default so yo have to pick that, and then it asks for confirmation.

3 months ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 9

If you're on mobile public is default.

3 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

People use this on their desktop lol

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, then my bad, I use a PC.

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is almost identical to a conversation I had here several years ago, back before I started using mobile most of the time!

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm on mobile and its default to hidden, just tried it.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Android?

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, i assume it's different on iPhone

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Effort? "Public" is the default option selected... was this /s ?

3 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

In addition to having to select "public" it makes me add a title before selecting that option. Might depend on the platform but for me, it's literally impossible to do it by accident :-p

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Seems to depend on your platform. For PC users it's not the default and you have to specifically select and confirm that you want it public.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Looks like the mobile version still defaults to Share to Community. I looked at a few posts that were pretty obviously just image storage and "via iPhone" was on most of them.

3 months ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 2

Mine has always defaulted to private

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Android app defaults to hidden. Just checked. App installed Friday (new phone), so definitely up-to-date.

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm on up-to-date Android and it defaulted to public. It's only one tap to switch to hidden though.

I've never accidentally posted publicly. I have a lot posted but only a couple things ever public.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Weird. Wonder if there's a setting somewhere

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m on an iPhone and when I upload stuff now it defaults to hidden. But previous versions you would have to specifically select that (it automatically defaulted to public). I’m guessing that’s 99% of the problem.

3 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Of course it's the iPhone crowd that can't figure out how to upload an image correctly.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0
