Not the biggest disaster, but I feel like it's not getting talked about enough.

politics

classic government. make a massive set of rule changes so the shitty ones are forced to be accepted because they are packaged with theoretically necessary changes.... and then we'll have all kinds of advertising how either accepting or denying the bill is absolutely essential and not doing so will be the end of the country.

I wonder if they'll remove the privacy rules for apps and advertising...

Right to repair is about to be revoked, too.

I thought about that the day after the election.

Who could have known there'd be so many terrible unintended consequences to voting for someone who is pure evil.

Those OSHA memes are going to be a lot less funny.

Yep, in the UK it was our Conservative government that bought in the click to cancel law a year ago. Companies have to warn you when a renewal is coming up, and make cancelling easy. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/digital-markets-competition-and-consumers-bill-supporting-documentation/enhancing-consumer-rights-policy-summary-brief

The guy Trump appointed never left.

that never changed, biden's incompetent ass never managed to get rid of Dejoy. I know it wasn't easy, but he didn't even try.

I suspect it was going to topple as soon as some company's judge decides to declare the federal trade commission has no ability to regulate trade (or some similar token justification).

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i hope lina khan finds a job after trump fires her. she has done so much good work despite all the corporate pushback. americans are so horribly stupid.

All those "algorithmic price fixing" cases are toast too.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

About once every other day I'll think of an agency or group that provides important protections but are low-key and largely out of the public eye that we'll likely lose in the next few years so I get to feel a tiny aftershock of pain... NRLB... NOAA weather advisories... CPSC... FDIC... Wonder what it will be today.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And reading the comments here, it's net neutrality. Well that's checked off!

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that should be the focus of the media - what policy changes or votes are coming up. not dum dum said this or dum dum did that. ignore him and focus on policy changes.

I'm just looking forward to losing my health insurance.

8 months ago | Likes 304 Dislikes 2

Same. If Trump picks ending the ACA as one of his moments of competence, then I'm dead.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I want to get rid of mine. It does nothing for me but drain my paycheck. Sadly I'm legally obligated to pay a company 100s a week for something that when i attempt to use I'm denied. Fuck em.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I promise you, whatever comes next under Trump will be more expensive, will be allowed to tell you "no" for more things, and the government regulations that would normally be in charge of ensuring that the hospitals are clean, medications are labeled properly, and doctors are held responsible for fuckups will be fucking GONE.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What will you do? Serious question.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know. I'll be able to make it work for a while, but long term? Get whatever insurance I can afford and give up treatments that are keeping me out of a wheelchair. I don't make bad money, but with MS, my insurance costs will be insane if I want coverage for that sort of thing.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for giving me the outline. As a European, I don't really know the complexities you go trough, but I wanna learn.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’ve never had health insurance, my only option if something happens is to die

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been on disability for a year, now, and I won't qualify for Medicare for another year.
I'm already spending *Half* of my disability on health insurance through the ACA. It would be 80% without the ACA.
I can't drive a car, there is no public transportation ('cause Florida) and I have a 5 year old at home.
I feel like I'm going to be dead in a few years and then my son will end up with his abusive, alcoholic mother once again.

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You guys have health insurance?

8 months ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

I have great health insurance am hoping to keep it

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

i did for 3 months. only health care i can get is poor as fuck healthcare. they wont cover shit until i spend 7500$ in a year. i dont make that much in a year sooo not only is it worth fuck all but you have to pay 45$ a month. missed 1 payment and you lose it until the end of year. it ok tho, i dont think i will be able to survive for much longer

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Can confirm, shit sucks. If you go without the insurance, most doctor's have a sizable discount for office visits. If you dial 211, that's United Way: they will find every discounted provider & free charity to help you with your specific need, healthcare related and otherwise. If you're hospitalized, use a PUBLIC hospital and when you get the bill, call and ask about their Forgiveness or charity program. You can also call your local state/county health clinic, but appt waits might be long.

Net neutrality died years ago when that douche Ajit whatever the fuck took over. We are headed to a full capitalist society, where no one makes enough but it's all about buy buy buy

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Headed? Man what do you see around you today?

Where were headed is way way worse than that but, hear me out, this might be a good thing.

The US basically told it's oligarchs "you can impoverish me slowly and I'll never get upset"... THATS what's got you here, and left to carry on, could have lead to perpetual capitalism with no chance of escape.

Buuut, people might notice if the process speeds up. And you only need 3% to notice and act properly, and then it all starts to get better.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This rapid boiling of the US frogs MIIIGHT just be enough to get some of them to jump out... As it were

No guarantees of course! The means to manipulate public opinion improve every day. Perhaps people will just accept it and carry on? Historically that tends not to happen tho..

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But seriously, what is their solution to "Soon the poor suckers won't be able to afford to buy our products?"

8 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

its business. Milk all you can & if profits fall below the line THEN you lower price to get more and repeat.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s a problem for next quarter.

8 months ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Can't afford to live? You go to prison. Where you will work as a slave. You can afford to export American goods at awesome profits when the labour is free.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Debt. Everyone will be more and more in debt for the majority or entirety of their lives because that makes sure you remain an obedient busy bee

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The main reason they have struck down multiple student loan forgiveness bills in the recent year.

The one thing that is holding me back from ever catching up, getting my own apartment, getting cars that don't break after a year, or ever being able to wake and not worry about food or bills or a roof over my head.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To quote Elon Musk "just have more kids, don't worry about the money"
The reason abortion and abstinence is such a problem for them is that inflation requires constant population growth to be sustainable.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Have you heard of debtors prisons? You will just live in one of those working for those people until your debt is paid off. It's simple.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They will make us legally required to buy them

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rich people are almost universally stupid. Being shielded from the effects of their failures means that have no real sense of what works and what doesn't. They think that they cannot fail and that every one of their ideas is a good one. It has lead a lot of people to think that there's an infinite source of money.

8 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Even those who are business-savvy enough to understand still fall to the same sort of issue. They operate on the idea that "there will always be some other angle" to work with. That there's always going to be a new avenue of profit, a new audience to exploit, a new business to seize. They might understand that there's a maximum limit as an abstract concept, but never think they'll have to worry about hitting it themselves. They each assume they're too smart for that to be a problem for them.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They will probably spin it as protecting us from accidentally cancelling something we actually do want.

8 months ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 1

Why would they spin it? They believe they have a mandate to dismantle the United States.

8 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

They'll always spin it out of force of habit, if nothing else. The GOP hate being blamed for anything and will always try to deflect to keep up their facade of being just, flawless, and only having good ideas. They'll never just flat-out tell the truth of something they're doing, even while blatantly doing it in real time.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Project 2025 is a pretty clear, 'here is how we plan on dismantling the US and turning the US back to when America Was Great, 1850...'

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They believe they do cuz they do. Who is stopping them? Nobody recently.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Republicans always shutter the FTC, the FBI Civil Rights Division, the EPA and the SEC when they take power.

8 months ago | Likes 94 Dislikes 3

Yep. R's want to cement the unitary executive legal theory (which the current SCOTUS is likely to favor), while I would personally live to see cabinet level positions chosen through a completely different method and not accountable to the President. Maybe Senate or House committees, or maybe direct election by voters.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or, how about career civil servants?

Maybe, just maybe, the FBI should promote its director from within... how about a career foreign service officer run the State Dept...

We vote for judges here in Illinois and they are party affiliated... and I keep asking the question, 'how does a Republican judge, adjudicate the laws of the state of IL and manage a courtroom, differently than a Democrat?' cuz if there is an answer to that question, we need to fire every fucking judge and let the ABA do it

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The shutting down of the SEC was why Elon spent so much supporting Trump, the SEC was about to indict him for running a pump and dump.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You forgot the department of education.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It will just go back to the way it was for special needs kids... we will be locked in a room and sit there until it is time to go home.... This is how I spent the early 1970s.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

With the SCOTUS ruling on Chevron deference, basically every regulatory agency is beholden to the whims of 5 dipshit far-right assholes. Unless Biden makes a strong exit with some "official acts" and then resigns and gets Harris to pardon him, we're facing societal collapse on a global scale.

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

He won’t, the spineless cunt

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Yes, I know. He's been trying to find common ground with republicans in a post-2016 era. Not only spineless but a fucking gullible dipshit. I bet he'd still go try to kick the football if mitch mcconnell was holding it.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hah. Why would she need to pardon him? The president can do whatever he wants as long as he's doing it *as* the president and not just himself, remember?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There would be a narrow SCOTUS ruling saying that (incomprehensible bullshit) means their ruling on official acts as president doesn't apply here. They just make up the argument to fit the conclusion, remember?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Very true, very true!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He will not.

Biden fucked up this election, he is gonna go back to Delaware, retire and watch the US burn to the ground.

8 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

I know this but imagine if he did. Imagine if an old, white democrat actually did something to make a change.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I cannot remember a time when one did... LBJ did some good work, in his 50s... FDR did ok, again, in his 50s... people in their 80s generally just want to take a nap.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It's not just Biden who fucked it up. The entire democratic party fucked up

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's true. Dems are absolutely horrible when it comes to reading the pulse and messaging it. If they campaigned in areas that were close enough to win, and loudly announced they'd legalize cannabis, legalize abortion, tax billionaires and lower everyone else's taxes and give everyone healthcare, anyone listening would vote for them. All of those poll at like 60-70%. But no they went for the moderate republican vote.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Perhaps... but Biden indicated in 2019 that he would run for one term and retire... if he had carried out that plan, there would have been a full-scale primary and a candidate people actually wanted would have been selected... instead of this anointing and failure.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think the DNC needs to stop selecting people from the current presidential administration as the next candidate. It's been done like... 3 times so far and failed every single fucking time because they end up having to answer for all of the failures of the administration? Al Gore, Hillary Clinton and now Kamala Harris. They need to choose someone not from the current administration(Biden, Obama) so they can shit on both parties with repercussions.
