Ahh the 'Roman' Dodecahedron. No one knows what they were for and 130 of them have been found in northern europe with surrounding evidence placing them 1-5AD. They range from golf ball to cricket ball size.
The most common explanation for these was glove knitting but there are many others, and none found in any places that suggest someone was actually using them to knit, and usually more unlikely places.
