Little late post but so important!

Make America grift again

Except the bro CEOs

There’s still hope.

Eggs are free when the shelf is empty.

They are

Imagine if Bernie looked like Luigi with all his political knowledge. He’d definitely get elected!

Fuck indeed

Don’t let the bastards silence you either!

Keep unionizing. At a certian point, they can't just keep closing stores, warehouse, etc. Collectively we bargain.
LordKingSalmon
Unfortunately, with the online presence and using the USPS for their shipping, they can afford a lot of loss before it hurts them. First issue they'll see is increase in shipping time, and that's just an inconvenience to the consumer who either accepts that or pays more elsewhere.
alwaysupvotethegoat
Boycotting is necessary because we just learned that the biggest election is where our wallet goes.
rusrsdude
Exactly, this is the way for the individual. It definitely requires sacrifice and a lot more shopping time, but it needs to be done for a better future for everyone.
methadonegirls
Problem is he did this in Quebec. Ask Walmart how that went.

I'd like to thank Amazon; there's a book I really want, and I can only find it on Amazon, so I was thinking of breaking my years-long embargo of their company, but they've just reminded me why I shouldn't. Fuck Amazon, fuck Bezos, they're all a bunch of cunts who can suck on a firehose.

Something to remember for #5 is that we need to start looking more holistically at the economy. How well the stock market is doing shouldn't be our metric for success, but rather things like average real wage for the bottom 90% of Americans and quality of life indexes that take into account access to nutritious food and preventative healthcare. Unemployment is also not a great metric since just having a job isn't really a good indicator that you're doing well because of how unaffordable shit is.

#10 is dated. Vivek has quit.

Was wondering how long that would take.

#10 minions kill their bosses so is that what's gonna happen to these two turds?
Lassannn
That Latin phrase is from Atwood's "A Handmaid's Tale." It's not really Latin but it translates to "Don't let the bastards grind you down." in real Latin, that phrase is something like "Ne sterculina te conterant." "Don't let the shit piles crush you." "Sterculina" literally means "heaps of manure." "Bastards" or "fuckers" can be easily inferred from it.
AntaNce
Thanks, I was stuck on that one. p.s.

Good. Now write that a hundred times or I'll cut your balls off.

Gas prices are up as of Monday. And over $4.15 again

This is what happens when wealth is consolidated to this level and a monopoly like Amazon is so ingrained in our infrastructure. It translates to raw power, control, and influence. Sabotaging parts of their own company is not enough of a financial deterrent and they're happy to do it to maintain the societal power imbalance.
whoatherebigfella
#1 so what did they get instead?
rowanww822000
Articles like this play the "lost 1,700 jobs" things in a negative light but Amazon's entire business model is about employing as few people to do the job as possible and destroying the competition with cheap imported products. It's very likely that more than 1,700 jobs will be created in small-medium business to replace those jobs, and they will have better pay) conditions
defensivebackhair
Keep unionizing! Let Quebec's success catch on
sideeyehussle
If you’re buying from Amazon you’re part of the problem.

#7 Oh he cares alright. They make him look bad and he doesn't like seeing them. He's already said he plans to round them up into labor camps.

Imgur mods want you to know that Amazon executives are welcome here and to treat them with respect.
ballsoutflyer
Ah, to hell with that.
KommanderKayriel
Free Luigi.
MapleSyrupMafia
As a Québécois, I'll invite those people to manger un char de marde! Amazon just cost a lot of people their jobs because they're afraid of treating workers like humans... We tend to hold grudges up here.
GooteMoo
Hell, our provincial motto is "Je Me Souviens"...'I remember.' It's not 'I remember how charming this place is', it's a grudge.

Where they hiding? I just wanna talk

#5 genuinely curious about this one. I posted a recurring annual meeting on my Google Calendar for just me, every 1/20 until shitler's out of office (or please god please dead any day just dead). I posted this jpg in the meeting notes. Gonna check and see. I bet some of the numbers will be better, but I'm curious overall.

By do better, do you mean actually think about doing something else? You can always just put it off and continue in your sinister ways, ya know.
RetrogradeLlama
#1 Bezos doesn't want that union think to catch on. He won't be able to pay his heating bill or buy food if he has to pay union wages.
spiffylookingnerfherder
To be fair, heating an entire planet by 1*c takes a lot of output.

On all his yachts or just the one?
Mountons
All these solidarity comments are great but you ALSO have to stop buying from Amazon , right?
alwaysupvotethegoat
You could.
I already have truly quit. I don’t have the heart to give Lex Luther my money to fund union busting and worse. Even after a few months I am still struggling with how to find certain items. Had to stop subscriptions connected to the prime card. I wish that prick didn’t buy Whole Foods. It wasn’t easy deleting audible and prime and my music. Sucked. So yeah.
You could quit.
KommanderKayriel
Even if we stop giving him money he's worth so much it won't hurt him before he dies of old age.
Mountons
True, and marketshare is directly related to power. So you're doing good.
pickledpete1337
They're a bunch of union busting cunts.
ballsoutflyer
They are. But look at it this way - an organization killed an amazon warehouse. Personally, I would have liked to see it burn to the ground, but making amazon tuck its tail and run is also pretty good.
CNChapeL
Technically, it killed 7 of them.
Redoneter593
Even better!
SpaceHaggis
Form a union
MapleSyrupMafia
As a former mechanic that was under a union... I was working 4 days a week and earning $32/h with an apprentice 4 card, sick days, pension, etc... Unions are required so that workers aren't underpaid and treated like shit or fired for no reason other than the boss waking up angry. Amazon can afford paying people more and having decent work conditions... they just don't want to.
SpaceHaggis
dontrike
Don't bother, she's just a troll.
whoatherebigfella
It doesn’t make much difference to me but why would @SpaceHaggis be considered a troll? They’ve been an active member for years. If that’s the case, we will all be considered trolls at one or many times during our time on Imgur. I’ve been called a troll before but that was because what I had to say contradicted what someone else felt.
dontrike
Might want to take a look at their post history if that's a question for you
ballsoutflyer
Hah! The workers still won! They drove Amazon out! Local businesses may have a better chance now and the workers who banded together may be able to create their own business.
ElbowDeepInAPoliceState
They're going back to subcontracting warehousing and deliveries. They only expanded their direct operations to quebec in 2020
MissSiesta
You have a point. The good guys won.
whoatherebigfella
Yes. All 1,700 of them won. Wait, what did they win again?
Nellisir
Honestly, I'm fine if this keeps happening. Amazon is closing that location because it has others that aren't unionized. If those form unions, eventually it'll just be Bezos & his plane, hand delivering packages 24/7. I can live with that.
alwaysupvotethegoat
Omg that you for the hysterical visual! I pictured it like Sea lab style animation.

ProjectDA
it will be harder for those locations. now they can point to this location and say if they win, they lose their jobs. one of the reasons its hard to unionize at walmart. they get a sniff of it and youre fired.
GooteMoo
Shitty in the short term for the hundreds of workers who now have to job hunt, BUT I am not sad to see a sweatshop closing.
whoatherebigfella
Of course you’re not sad. It doesn’t affect you.
Jimmyb3121
Until the locals have to pay more for their products and suffer the slight reduction in convenience
Catheren
Actually, recent academic studies proved this is a false narrative: companies like Amazon and Walmart force job monopolies and keeping pay as low as possible results in stealing 8% from the local area, meanwhile their prices don't actually compete when compared to local stores they just have one hell of PR campaign. I'll see if I can find *the sauce* for folks, but knowing my browsing that page is LONG gone.
Catheren
Okay here's the news article: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/12/walmart-prices-poverty-economy/681122/ I admit I didn't read the source material links which they DO provide- because I am NOT an economics major, I am an environmental science weeb and I bet it all sounds Greek to me.
FatherNeal
Please share the sauce if you can find it. I’d love to read it and save for future use
Catheren
Added as a reply to my post! =3

Saved. Thanks :)
SpectralSpider
I mean, at this point Amazon is literally just an aggregator for a bunch of affiliated digital storefronts. I feel like if a country's postal service wanted to fill that niche, they probably could without much issue.
MADchemEE
Hey Canada Post....!
micuu
Guess why conservatives and neo-libs are so eager to privatize CanadaPost?
EveryGOPAccusationIsActuallyAnAdmission
Which is exactly why conservatives have worked so hard to kill the USPS.
SpectralSpider
I mean they've been trying to kill it since before Amazon existed. They want it gone because it provides a service that benefits workers and customers without having to pay a small group of parasitic scum billions of dollars to pretend they're innovating something that needs no innovation.
EveryGOPAccusationIsActuallyAnAdmission
That's a Texas sized 10-4.
porcubot
Does Amazon even sell anything anymore that isn't just cheap Temu garbage?
SpectralSpider
Probably. But they'll make you have to look for it.
CornOfTheMountain
Weirdly enough, Amazon is the only place i can procure 19th and 20th century communist propanganda, in french.
P.s. I live in QC and want to keep the books
marktheshark911
I dunno, a local Amazon warehouse isn't necessarily impacting a local small business in the same way that a Walmart would. Now there's just 1700 more unemployed people in this area.
sinskittles
Without Prime shipping, people will go elsewhere to get things fast. And without Prime shipping, the reasons to buy from Amazon over another website/direct from the brand start to dwindle.
ProjectDA
prime shipping often sucks. when i 1st got it, it was great. over time it was delayed package after slow to ship. it was basicly 3-5days like normal. amazon has free shipping if you are ok with waiting 5 days. well i was waiting 5 days any ways so i dropped it. that was with 2 centers near me. now i try to use it as a wishlist, and go off site for purchases if i can.
ZachariasWolfe
Not sure if the post is about Quebec City or the Quebec the province, but 1700 people is either 0.3% or 0.02% of the population.
rusrsdude
All warehouses and logistics operstions in the province.
https://labor411.org/411-blog/amazon-lays-off-1700-in-quebec-after-230-workers-form-first-amazon-union-in-the-province/
It's pretty big. Either way, it's pretty huge to those individuals who just lost a job all of a sudden.
ZachariasWolfe
Right, but 0.02% is a very managable amount for a functioning goverment safety net to support.
whoatherebigfella
Right. While they’re probably saying fuck Amazon, they’re still out of work and at one point in the future, they may think that it wasn’t all bad working there. I hope the community can absorb so many people at once.
