When I was a boy, there was a old building in town with an intricately-laid tile floor. I noticed an obvious mistake in one corner and showed it to the owner. He said the people who laid the tile many years ago believed that only God could create perfection and to attempt perfection was to taunt God and would bring bad luck upon the workers, the building, and its owner. So they always deliberately inserted one obvious mistake, usually in an out-of-the-way spot. Is what he said true? I dunno.

I do know I've seen similar mistakes in tile floors all over the country. In fact, I tend to look for them now.
