Just noticed it today. This stupid car banner ad keeps taking over the screen. Has happened a few times. (On iOS.)

Lol yeah I'm literally riding my last nerve in this, reminds me so much of why I quit imgur last time. Like they keep making more and more money off these ads but can't be bothered to fix the fucking site or app bugs that have become more and more prevalent
Flareside
Helps a lot with ads
marthafarquar
A lot of people lost emerald today as apparently they fixed a glitch that meant it stayed active after you stopped paying, so it might that.
Wargamez
I only use Imgur at home, and with a Pi-Hole on my network I haven't seen a single ad since setting it all up.
Cmbyrd0001
Hang on. You mean the web browser that can only go to one website, and requires full access to your phone, and is bigger to download than the browser I use to go to *any website I want* isn't actually amazing?
Goddesahpan
And the "app" uses cookies, has to ask consents etc. I hate this backwards improvements we are experiencing
Volpe42
Its nothing new
ryan2one3
NextDNS is so easy. You get to use this shitty, official app with no ads.
Xazh717
Didn't some right-wing group purchase Imgur? If that's true, I wouldn't be surprised if they monetize the fucking upvote button.

Report the ad, Imgur will usually have it removed from the rotation.

Don’t worry, another equally annoying or rule breaking ad will take its place immediately.
bluecobalt
...is there something to click on the ad to do that? I didn't see one.
wildwestpb
There should be a way to close the ad and then a report button under it. Another way you can report it is take a screen shot, then fill out a support ticket with the info they ask for - https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/26516754697243-Reporting-a-Bad-Ad
DocFunkenstein
No, because I'm not an idiot who visits sites without an ad blocker and the like.
friendsofsandwiches
says they're on a phone, and most people don't put blockers on phone browsers.
DocFunkenstein
Oh, well that changes everything. If they choose not to do it on their phone--key word choose--that makes all the difference. They're absolute geniuses for not doing it! Brilliant!
bluecobalt
Can you recommend an ad blocker that works in tandem with the iOS Imgur app?
DocFunkenstein
Nope, cause I don't use the app because there isn't one.
Funny how that works, huh?
You people are so fucking pathetic.
MartynMage
Have you seen this in the last ~30 minutes, @OP? We were able to track down and block the ad provider responsible for this prior to that, but if you're still seeing it currently I'm happy to continue investigating with the team
energeticEchos
Maybe have a chat with the devs on how to properly handle the ads within the app’s code. It’s Imgur’s code, ads shouldn’t be allowed to force open full screen or force follow links like the one’s that opened the App Store on their own a few months back.
MartynMage
That is step 2 and is already planned; when I comment I usually like to focus on what will have an immediate impact rather than the long term one, but that doesn't mean we're not also focusing on the long term solutions :)

The last time I encountered it was about 5 minutes before I posted the meme. I accidentally clicked on the ad a few times, so I can provide some domains from my browser history: ecamapaignst">at">ts.com"">paignst">ats.com">ecampaignstats.com, audicoralsprings.com, cloudonestats.com, acuraofpalmbeach.com. The banner had three cars on it, I think, and it acted as a small video. One of the times, I think it may've even played a beeping noise.
TehTuna
I got the same thing in the past 30 ish min
MartynMage
Ah shoot, I was hoping it wasn't recent. I'll share this with the team and we'll get re-reviewing ASAP!

No, I'm using Firefox.
