I know imgur sold out, and has been using a third party for moderation...

But holy hell...

The Nazis seem to be coming out of the woodwork and being a lot more bold about it in the last few days.

moderators

imgur

Won't help them much, the Imgur user base leans heavily towards progressive politics. And there's a fuck load more users than Nazis have burners. So most of their shit never tends to get very far before it gets nuked and reported.

They are reactivating in record numbers. They always come into chats swinging and insulting people. They have like 500 points and some 9 years on Imgur.

4 months ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 4

There's also a hell of a lot of anti trump posts. The mods are still around but ppl gonna post. Hop out of sub an it gets lighter

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

Yeah, really wish people would use the damn politics tag. But any time you bring up the politics tag they start foaming at the mouth with rage, calling you a fascist or saying that you don't care about what's going on. As if Imgur is the only place people can get news from, lol.

Yup. Tons of "just asking" guys coming out of the woodwork. Also russian agitprop accounts.

It's hard to tell your friends, your children, your parents, that being racist, sexist, or an actual nazi is bad, when the highest ranking position in the free world is owned by someone who is all three of these things and worse. And he's been accepted for that position twice.

You don't know 4chan is hacked and obliterated? All those very mentally healthy individuals that used to keep sharing their ideas with each other over there, has spread out to a lot of other sites, to test where they can stretch the boundaries most, and then settle in and take over. They are here already.

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I kinda predicted this a month ago. Leftist Americans may not be okay with Nazi shit but they're used to it because it's so prevalent. Leftists from other countries are more likely to call it out because what's 'normal' in the States is absolutely NOT normal elsewhere.

4 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

They reactivate at the beginning of election season or when the GFN is in trouble

4 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Is this just one of them user sub things?

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not seeing that at all. I just figured they are too ashamed to even comment these days.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think it was the moderation that drove the nazis out to begin with, but people ruthlessly dog-piling them with both facts and unapologetic meanness making it clear they were not only unwelcome in the community, but also that their attempts to persuade people with bullshit would fail or backfire. I'm betting the ones we're seeing are those emboldened by Trump's return and policies, hoping to find people who're too distraught to bite.

4 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Well, the fact that the protests are making bigger and bigger impacts probably has Moscow worried and they're spending a lot on trying to defeat it. China also has plans that have to go through before Trump gets kicked out or hung. This is one of the few places actually covering it. Any wonder there's so many animal posts today and yesterday? Trying to distract from planned actions and the successes of the protests. They're losing and they're desperate. Which is why everyone needs to join in now

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're probably right. With offense absolutely intended to the spammers consoling themselves by being creeps (which looked a lot like celebrating) after the rapist's return to the WhiteHouse, blaming literally every demographic but Trump voters for electing Trump, treating this site like the community is their therapist, & demanding action from everyone but themselves, it's no wonder that actual leftists have gone elsewhere. Of course Right Wingers jumped to fill in the void.

There is no rhyme or reason, don't try to understand IMGUR mids

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Twitter sold for $40bn because of mass bot accounts. Imgur saw that and removed the phone verification requirement for new accounts.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So, after posting about that and thinking why they removed it: apparently It was not always like that. The phone number requirement was only something recently added in 2020. Before that, there was no mandatory phone requirement. Still not sure why they removed it, but your guess is as good as mine. I’ve seen a lot of valid arguments about people not wanting to give their phone number away for privacy concerns.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can confirm that was not always the case. I wasn't asked for a phone number when I joined and I wouldn't have bothered to join if it was a requirement. The recent changes are being done because there are less daily users as people are leaving Imgur. That's also why they are trying to enforce tags because the political crowd have gotten out of control. The moderators usually change the rules when it starts to affect the website as a whole.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So the downside to not needing a number now is that you get a ton of spam, but spam inflates the daily users. So it’s doing as intended.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah, I noticed many brand new accounts spouting bs, just mute, report if deserved, move on.

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

The mods are doing great. Ok Shhh. Coded message to be safe ... --- ...

4 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

I dont get the downvotes? I mean youre literally calling SOS for help because this shit sucks...this should be up top, not downvoted? Maybe they dont get Morse code or sarcasm

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Probably morse code. LOL

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be honest I'm very close to dropping the app for a while. My feed is pretty much political and some random cats.

4 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You are being downvoted but it is a common sentiment on Imgur. A ton of people have left ever since the political crowd went nuts on here. A good chunk of them came from Twitter. The moderators are starting to move forward with tags because it is affecting the site and people are leaving.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Idk. But it’s probably time I head out. It’s all IG reposts anyway

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

the sites been garbage since they sold it and yeah, they sold it a while ago. everything is like 1 of 10 accounts on the front page, their application of policies is the definition of double standards. its now purely a cash grab, not that it wasnt before, but not its been "optimized".

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh, its both. They are changing how moderation works because the site has nowhere near the number of active daily users it used to, and burner accounts are more visible because of lower population. They never figured out how to spot a bots patterns, even the shit ones, they arent exactly trying too hard.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

idk, doesn't seem any different than last year, or the year before or the year before or the year before, etc.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If this becomes a trend, we should know WHICH third party

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Both.

4 months ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 3

Block em, don't feed the machine

4 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

That's kinda the thing. Trolls are now able to jump to the next account when they get burned or blocked. And the new outsourced moderators don't seem to be doing much about it.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Oh yeah we're on our own here, I just keep doing my part and posting content to flood them out. Keep your chim up buddy

4 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

What exactly have you been seeing?

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

4chan went down, and then:

4 months ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 2

4chan was a festering hole and I'm glad they don't have a place to congregate anymore.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Verily. I've seen more than a few childlike hissyfit tantrum comments from Hitler Youths both here and on Reddit in the past week, far more than I expected

4 months ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

People are cheering the downfall of the website but I'm just like "lol where do you think you're going to go lol"

4 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

People have forgotten that sites like 9gag and iFunny were good sites before /pol/ and r/the_donald got nuked.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Where? They all went to twitter, with their real names. There is no more accountability, They have no fear anymore... And the people that said the worst things there are cabinet members, now saying the same things to a camera

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The way I put it to people was, "Good riddance, but also, like, I definitely enjoyed it when I knew where they all were..."

4 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That's a gross misrepresentation - rats are far superior to the sludge draining out the bottom drains of 4chan

4 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Yeah. I was shaking my head at all the "good riddance" posts. As if all the users were just gonna suddenly go outside and live normal lives or something.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's probably it.

4 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just keep downvoting and reporting them, prevent them from ever reaching Most Viral. Rip and tear until it’s done.

I haven’t worked the user sub swamps in a bit. But I think you’re doing it. I’m not seeing Nazi shit on most viral-newest.

4 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I...did not realize I had an activation phrase, but damn if that didn't make me sit up and take notice.

4 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

It's from DOOM

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kinda wondering if imgur tweaked their moderation again, or just made it easier to make new burner accounts.

4 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

Conversation that seem too weird report it too. Chat bots don't really work well when bot farms limit there conversation.

4 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget that the unwashed hoards from 4chan are looking for new places to infest; my Reddit account has suddenly had an uptick in bullshit replies to things I posted or said ages ago (on threads that haven't locked yet).

4 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

It's not only "4chan" -- kiwifarms and lolcows are the cesspool of the clearnet, and the dark web's visible spawn. Places like that are mostly where they're coming from.

Unfamiliar with them? Take everything about every type of "Good OCD Journalist" then invert it to be the worst possible thing you could imagine - that's kiwifarms and lolcows. That's where they hide.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

And most of those sites were made by the people who were too much for 4Chan and got banned from it. And then they made their own sites and yet still people got banned and went off to make their own and so on. It's why each level further down gets way worse than what was before. Reddit has always been heavily linked to 4Chan, as a lot of the surface acceptable stuff from 4Chan would wind up there. So not odd that it would see the bulk of them moving there.

4 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Not odd, you're correct, but what I said is that it's "not only" "4chan"
