I'll never understand the mindset of people who see a fanfic/post with a title or tag they don't like but read the fanfic/post anyway and then send nasty comments to the author. I mean the thing was tagged and/or it was in the title, the author , warned you. Why not simply use the block button? It exists for a reason.
I for instance dislike coffee shop AUs and mundane AUs (i find them boring as all hell). I block the tags when I go on fanfic sites. If i see a spectacularly bad fanfic, i might get a few laughs from it and mock the fic with my friends but I would never send hate/nasty comments to the author or harass them.
I also remember several years ago (before wide spread tagging existed) I accidentally came across a truly disturbing fanfic(lets just say it involved alot of very graphic SA scenes and other horrifying things I would rather not talk about) . You know what I did? I used blocked the author and the used the back button. I didn't go on the authors page and send hate comments to the author or tell them "Get off the internet or at least stop writing torture fics you sadistic freak!" .

Unfortunately, if you write in those fic spaces you also take on the burden of a readership that has unreasonable expectations about feeling safe. And the authors are already very generous. You're never going to satisfy them. The more you warn them, the more complaints you'll get about excluding other warnings.
Literary fiction doesn't use trigger warnings nearly as much, but it has fussy readers too. They'll rip you apart for other stuff. No writer is safe.

Wild how people can type that much without thinking about it. Like... follow your own advice...

I didn't like the prospect of reading this. So I didn't.

I agree, if content is labeled correctly and has obvious information about what the content covers and you choose to read it knowing it contains triggers for you that’s not on the author. If a person is inviting that kind of dialogue that’s one thing, but people are very much responsible for the content they choose to partake in and are not automatically granted the right to go off on the author because they choose to hate read the content.

Imgur, not Txtur.
Also, why the fuck are these all essays? It's a simple concept.

I sort of wish it was Txtur just because I want to fight over how *that's* pronounced. Tixter? Texture? So many possibilities. Almost like vowels are important in English.

Text-ur. Alternatively, you can call it "Reddit".

Hello, I just finished reading your fic, and frankly, I’m appalled. I did not like it, and I need you to understand that this is now officially your problem. Yes, I saw your tags and warnings, but I chose to ignore them because I assumed you’d make it end the way I wanted. That’s just common courtesy. Imagine my shock when you didn’t cater to my unspoken, completely personalized expectations. Now, I’m going to need you to rewrite it to my specifications immediately.

I have taken the time to compose a very thorough list of changes (you’re welcome) so you can fix this offense against my leisure time. I’m sure you have nothing better to do than satisfy me, a total stranger who voluntarily read your free work. And while we’re here, I would like to speak to whoever is in charge of your “creative decisions,” because clearly they need retraining. I will not be closing the tab and moving on quietly.
LicensedAdHominem
If I got a critique like this I'd ask "can you elaborate on the changes? I'm unclear on them" each time they do until they waste enough time to get bored

I will be making sure everyone knows how you have failed me personally. You should reflect on this and do better in the future. After all, if I didn’t like it, why would anyone like it?
