Was just there about a month ago. The entire area is gorgeous but when you stand next to one of the giants for the first time, it is really awe inspiring.
I'm an east coast boy, but me and a buddy went out and hiked the John Muir Trail a few years ago and it's legitimately so continuously beautiful and grandiose that you almost get numb to it. After the John Muir Wilderness, Sequioa and Kings Canyon sections, I was so burned on baffling beauty that Yosemite was legitimately boring to me.
**Big Asterisk: Yosemite was very nice. We came to the conclusion that because we're used to hiking in the east, being surrounded by lush forests and green doesn't really do as much for us as people who are used to a more sparse terrain, because the Appalachians are filled with it. Probably why the sparse, open, endless vistas in King's Canyon and Sequoia were so striking to us.
I fucking love that drive from Three Rivers up and through Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Some of the best driving and moderate hiking. Beautiful country. I miss it very much. I'm so happy for you.
One of the things I love about the drive is taking it early in the morning before many other people are on the road and rolling down the windows so you can smell the plants changing around you.
I only really got one chance to do that drive, and because of work by the time I had to drive it it was already dark, so I just went the shorter route to get home faster. Very disappointing.

I miss Sequoia.. the political climate in the US right now however makes me unwilling to return.
AgainstMethod
The political climate in Sequoia is reasonably chill.
