Barely Making It

Oct 29, 2024 4:29 AM

A swinging pendulum under the influence of gravity. The pendulum starts in the vertical position with a tiny amount of kinetic energy, so that when it swings down and back up again, it barely makes it over. There is no friction

Me too pendulum, me too. But with plenty of friction.

I am waiting for it to stop. I am waiting for it to stop. I am waiting for it to stop. 12 hours later, I am waiting for it to stop.

It loops at the 18 hour mark. You can barely make out the time skip, but it's there.

Neat. It would be interesting to see how much this changes over time due to floating point errors.

And errors resulting from the numerical integration method, irrespective of the number of bits in the float format

Yes! A plot of delta-t for subsequent cycle duration would be cool.
