Finished pic first. The table top wound up being 2 1/4" thick, 12 feet long, and 50" wide. The top alone weighs at least 300 lbs and was a total beast to move and manipulate. Definitely tested the limits of my small shop.

The wood came to the shop as two 13 foot, relatively flat 2 3/8" thick slabs that were roughly rectangular but needed flattening and jointing. Not only is my shop not big enough, I'm not nearly strong enough to get the slabs onto my jointer. So I took my #7 to it to get the edge ready for jointing. I don't have a straight edge long enough to check for flatness, so there was a little eyeballing here.

Cut two rows of dominoes and used most of the long clamps in my shop to get the two slabs together. There wound up being a very small gap in the middle of the table that I filled with tinted epoxy.

Finished both sides with several coats of rubio monocoat pure, as I love how it looks on black walnut.

Shot of the c-channels on the bottom of the table on site at the customer's house.

A friend of mine fabricated the metal base for the table. The client is super happy with how it came out, and he can host his entire family at the same table. Thanks for looking!

According to an online wood weight calculator, your top alone is between 375 and 412 pounds.

I can't imagine how that would feel to maneuver. My back compressed just thinking about it

I'm fortunate to have some friends who help out when I need to move big things, but it was definitely a bear.

That is amazing. I’ve watched probably 50 videos while contemplating trying a walnut desk.

Best advice I can give is just start making sawdust. Nothing ever turns out perfect and each project is a learning experience.

I think the clamps alone are worth more than all the wood I’ve ever purchased…
