Plus the picture was reversed somehow in the original post/repost that I saw. Sachtler had many large tripod heads, I am guessing its a 30, but could be a 20 or some other variant

What a handsome couple. And interesting info, too!

I remember wearing a belt for a while because of this movie. Then I came to my senses and resumed the use of an open robe.

God she is gorgeous ... so is he...
martineb72
He must really like her. He is doing the full touch hug here.

Wow, 4 minutes and 26 seconds. That is a serious wall to long continous scenes.
joechristo
Well remember there is 1000 foot loads (11 minutes )as well and depending on what format you are shooting 4perf (perforations), 3 perf and even 2 perf you could shoot a bit longer.
BTW:The whole perf thing is how many sprocket holes the image takes up
For a long time standard cameras used 4 then they modified it and you would use 3 perf and along came 2 perf
Remember as you do this the image is a wider format

This would be good material for a pop quiz, hotshot.

Breaking News: Keanu Reeves photographed touching a live woman. The world will end next thursday!

According to the Council of Elders, it doesn't count as a repost if you include some gloriously nerdy camera info. Nice work!

I wonder how many hostages one can shoot in four minutes twenty six seconds.
AntyMatter
A rare picture of Keanu actually allowing his hand to rest on the person he has his arm around

I think it was called The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down
AllHailYourOneTrueOverlord
Yes, that's what it was! Tip of my tounge. It was extremely popular if I remember correctly, almost as popular as Billy and the Cloneasurus.
bitemark
That sounds like Speed 2 except with a bus instead of a boat
KaptainObveeus
I liked The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down 2: It's A Boat Now

They both, separately, stated they were crushing on each other during filming. I think the statement was on Ellen? Anyways- you can def see the chemistry.
randomstringofletters
Wonderful!! And yes, I’d put money on it being a V30v1 150mm.
randomstringofletters
Also see that C- series “gold” marked anamorphic lens. Mmmmmmm.
joechristo
I dont know which lens that is, they had so many zooms, ugh portion: Back then we would put yellow letraset tape all over the lenses to keep our focus marks clear and zoom stops unconfusing, I think that's what that gold looking stuff you might be referring to. Back then Panavision lenses were Black, white and a little red highlights that was about it. I could be wrong
tiderfish
Jeeze that whole film canister was only enough for 4.5 minutes of regular speed footage?
joechristo
Yes standard 35mm film comes in usually 2 sizes 400 feet 4 min 26 seconds & 1000’ roughly 11minutes
Filanwizard
makes sense, In fact I think this is why 25fps is a thing it was the perfect balance between smooth motion in the theater and raw film consumption in production and final product to ship.
CapitalNick
24fps in the US. And you're partially correct on the smooth motion (which is truer to our eyesight than video) & film consumption (cost). The other reasons: When sound was introduced to films in the 1920s, a consistent frame rate was needed to sync audio with the visuals. After some tests, 24fps was found to be the min. speed that supported good quality sound playback. Also, 24 is neatly divisible by numbers like 2, 3, and 4, making it easier to calculate & edit frames for different durations.
joechristo
25fps is for European electrical systems,
They’re based on 50hz
24 fps is for USA

As an autistic photographer, 1- I spent a weird amount of time looking at this. 2- I can't thank you enough. +1 OP
Filanwizard
ahh neat I figured Panavision was a total parts to product operation and did not know they bought existing cameras. I know they controlled a large hunk of camera rentals for ages in Hollywood.
joechristo
So Panavision grew out of Mitchell camera they had a nearly identical mechanical movement, and they were, still are, exceptional motion picture cameras. The other giant was Arriflex a German camera. But panavision knew their value as well would buy many of them and “Panavise” them
This meant many accessories would work for either camera. So I would land a job and I’d ask which camera & the answer might be a panavised 35-3 like the one in the picture above.
Filanwizard
So was the 30fps sync for when someone shot TV shows? As i know many US shows were shot on 35mm. Star Trek TNG for example.
OdinYggd
Wasn't the big advantage of the Panavision camera that it ran silently? Modifications making it noisy sounds like something of a setback.
joechristo
Arriflex also made very quiet cameras
joechristo
Yes panavision made nice quiet cameras
But this could shoot 120 fps a very valuable asset and quiet isn’t that important for a C camera
f3n1x187
they foley the fuck out of action sequences so camera noise was not an issue there.
