In case you wonder, the pigtail (braid) is made from 3 base long Cylinders & hand bend to shape one over other until final shape, like braid iRL. Yes, it was a lot of hard work.

On a stretch.. you like 3d & printing, maybe you like VR too. If so, try gravity sketch or marui. Modelling stuff like this is so easy in VR

Disclaimer: I'm not saying those programs are for everything, but box/nurbs modeling is so much better with 6dof input and HMD.
