You know, every form of architecture has good and bad examples. Especially when you take a form and remove all the elements that made it useful in the first place. Such as cost and accessibility for brutalism. The soviets used brutalism to create cathedrals to the state like a lot of roman style architecture. I think brutalism is best not as a show of force, but rather as an empty canvas.

I do have a critique of this specific building. They seemed to remove the overhangs from the windows. Bad idea in Torontos climate. Overhangs keep our windows and walls protected from the precipitation. Thats why I only really like the Wrightian style architecture with flat roofs and no overhangs in desert type climates. Imagine if they found a slightly darker desaturated colour or colours and had nice overhangs on those windows. It would fill in the dead space as well.

Agreed- muni buildings should be designed for the area my architects that understand the building needs, and only modified thoughtfully, but knee-jerk is easier and going to win fairly often. (And you are right, cool building).

I don't think these are the same building. The round 'tower' is on both, but only one has an angular tower close against it.

Also concrete and bollards vs green.

Just googled it. Apparently the bollards and the grass are different sides of the building.
