I just wish microsoft would open the fuck up about DirectX...

What do you mean? Valve has already re-implemented DX10 and DX11 on Linux and AFAIK it compiles on Mac too under "SteamPlay" / "Proton"

Steamplay/Proton is a vulkan based compatibility layer to interpret directx and therefor will always be slower than in windows

Also its not just about gaming for me. Unreal Engine can’t use DirectX on linux which is a massive deal breaker sadly.

And any non-steam directX game can still be a massive pain or wont even run at all. I really like linux. But it is not practical atm for me

DX9 is being done as VK9 and IIRC DX12 is being implemented in Vulkan waswell for other platforms

The compatibility layers are great but if you develop anything using DirectX you are still boned on linux. It will also never be faster.

Right, which means it's a workaround to make existing work sortof, game and software devs would be smart to ALWAYS target Vulkan first.

I get where you’re coming from but the advantages of directX for large games can not be ignored. Vulkan would sadly be a step back for that.
