I drove 2.5 hrs north from 'close to' totality so my 7 yr old could experience the eclipse with her grandma. I figured my daughter can catch another totality later in life but she'll never get to see one with her grandma again.

I saw the full eclipse 7 yrs ago when said daughter was a wee bairn in a pumpkin seat so I'm cool.

My son and his partner drove 3 hours from PA to Ohio just to see the totality with me and his grandma. We had a blast. They did a day trip, but that was fine.

You could have just looked at the camera screen at home

Yeah well I drove 90 minutes to have everything completely covered by clouds. Sure did get dark though.

you should warn him that a grimey evil little girl is about to crawl out of his camera in 7 days

The next one (where I live) is in 60 years. I think the one i saw in 99 was the last for me....

I thought 'The Ring' was in the ground - not at the Sky...

Drove 4 hours. Worth every mile.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 31 and got to watch it with one of my grandma's. The other went up to Indiana with family to see it in totality

Okay but do you have a picture of the person taking a picture of this camera?

Don't take pictures of total eclipses. Take in the atmosphere. That you will remember, not a pic like a gazillion others.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wowwww ask your buddy if that is a very very tired 7d MKI or 5d mkii - if it's a t3i I'm wildly impressed but yeah those puppies were pretty future proofed

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He says it's a 5d MkIV. But y'all bitches be babbling shit I don't speak.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

great!!! as I babble on your buddy has a 4k camera there in his mitts!! I bet ya a crisp 10 dollar bill he either did timelapse or rolled some video on that puppy

Savin that line for my client meeting this morning.

The clouds look like it's right where we were, Findlay Ohio. I got a much better show than I did in 2017 in Carbondale, where there were fewer clouds but of course one thick jerk of a cloud that skated in front of the sun just at totality.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Actually he was relatively close to Carbondale today. Traffic wasn't bad getting out. Since I was headed south to the totality Zone after it was over I saw all the traffic headed the opposite direction of me.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live about 2 hours straight north of Findlay. I opted to stay far away from expressways and saw almost no traffic. Took about 30 minutes longer than taking an expressway but little chance of traffic and if there is an accident or something, I'm not trapped, can just turn around and go a road over east or west.

And in 2017 I got to see the totality from just outside my wife's office. Pretty pretty pretty cool.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

we drove an hour and a half south to see it, we saw a partial in 2017, the kids don't even remember it. Our 14 year old was like "yeah, whatever" the whole drive down.

afterwards they were like "ok... that was pretty sweet, that was worth the drive"

The younger two were flipping out the whole time. But to get a "that was pretty sweet" from a 14 year old. BOOOM! big time family win.

I stayed in bed and got to see the same shot. (Just kidding, that's awesome! Great memories)

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where is the actual shot?

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's his to share on his social channels. I'm sharing my experience with my daughter and using his tastefully framed image to trick people into reading it.

@op Link to his social channels?

Drove 22 hours to get this.

Yeah I really want to travel to see one, but I'd be so pissed if that happened.

this was Dallas 1 hr before the start; fortunately the cooling during the event tends to clear out the light clouds apparently https://imgur.com/X5pSSeW

If you look that good in a little black dress you shouldnt cry.

And if you wear a little black dress to drink under your desk ... I dunno, figguritoot

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I kid. Brought my wife and 3 kiddos along and totality was still a completely mind blowing experience without being able to see the sun. It has affected me in ways I can’t even describe and I hope my kids appreciated it as well

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Texas? Looks similar to my experience in San Antonio

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Indeed. We are staying in San Antonio but drove up to Kerrville to be closer to the center of totality so we could experience the longer duration.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn, that sucks. If you have some time you should check out Pinkerton’s BBQ, Hugman’s Oasis for tiki drinks, and pretty much anywhere for breakfast tacos, but I’m partial to this place called Maria’s cafe on Cupples Rd. Doesn’t look like much on the outside, but it’s great food.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You’re my hero! I’ve been trying to get recommendations on a good bbq place because how could I come visit Texas without getting some real bbq. Going to go see the Space X Starbase, and Sea World before we head back home. Thanks for the recommendations!

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy. It’s definitely a touristy spot, but there’s a line out the door for a reason.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a long, arduous trip to my driveway to see the eclipse. Is it bad that I used a telescope without a filter to view it?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dallas with an android. I got real lucky

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In Dallas, it was stunning!

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Compared to most, not a terrible drive. Congrats on the once in a lifetime!

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can confirm we drove 4 hours one way to escape the clouds. It paid off.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely the right choice, that memory will make seeing a total eclipse later in life so much more special. +1 parenting

1 year ago | Likes 222 Dislikes 1

I took a group of students outside to (indirectly) observe and later on realized that they'll be in their 30s for the next major one for the US.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you. We all make parenting mistakes and it feels good going to bed knowing today was not one of them.

1 year ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Today was a stepping stone to more amazing things you can provide and share no matter how small if it is exciting that memory will last forever. +1 you awesome human.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We all do, you're right. Just don't be mean and everything should work out. Love and hugs and spend time caring. Nice work, you.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As the struggling, exhausted mum of a toddler, I needed to hear this today. For some reason I'm now crying, realizing that we all make mistakes but as long as I try better again tomorrow that's ok.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That was me ten years ago: toddler-age is the worst. Kids get so much more fun and so much easier when they can feed themselves, everyone is toilet trained, everyone can communicate somewhat logically, and you don't have to worry about them constantly trying to kill themselves. You can do this!

We're just hitting the 2 year sleep regression the same week as an ear and throat infection so she's been an arse hole 🤣🤣🤣 plan is to survive the next month then try and convince her to sleep in her own bed. I'm so tired. Hey duggee is my savior ATM!

I could have just stood in my backyard, but my mom and I chose to go to the park less than five minutes away instead to have a better view of everything around us. Was pretty amazing, and seemed much more intense this time than it did in 2017. I'm a little sad that by the time it comes to North America again, I'm gonna be too old to make the trip to Montana/North Dakota. I think I'm also sad just because my parents are getting elderly so it made me all the more aware of them getting older.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes: my in-laws really wanted to see it because they're in their 70's and figured it probably wouldn't happen again in their lifetimes.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s nice that you have the relationship with your parents now, though!

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eh, it's mainly just my mom. My dad and I don't mesh very well and fight a lot. He's a Red Hat Trumper Boomer who has left me with more emotional trauma than anyone else. But that doesn't stop these feelings of dreadful mortality I was having about it all.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I flew across Canada to see it. There was a birthday involved too, so both reasons made it worth while.

1 year ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

Did you make sure to get poutine while you were at it though?

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not yet, but I'm spending the afternoon in Montreal tomorrow.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Make sure to tell them, "s'il vous plait, esti chalice j'en ai besoin de deux kilogrammes de poutine avec du boeuf roti Montreal."

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You want me to ask for two kilograms of poutine with beef?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*nods*

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I flew 1,200 miles- I told the wife it was for a good cause and brought her with me. I still haven’t told her the good cause was so I could get a sweet picture but she seems fine with it

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm confused....she knew you were flying for the eclipse? If you're a photographer I'd assume she'd know you'd want a pick.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hahahaha! She was more like “seems a bit expensive just to see the sun…” and I said, “that’s the real trick, it’s a lot of money so we CAN’T see the sun!”

She knew what we were going for! My sarcasm doesn’t always translate 🤣
