It would be really terrible if people knew about adversarial noise and how it flummoxes AI moderation

Well, what did everyone think all the "whats your favorite x" "show us x?" "Tell us about x?" themes were about? Badges?

1 week ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

We don't need no stinking badges!

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Communities are not commodities!

You'd be surprised about how numbers can lie if they are collected and molded to convince investors to invest more money. Especially numbers generated by IT applications, where VPN's, changing IP adresses, bots mass creating accounts and AI pretending to be humans is becoming the norm and not the exception.

Wow

41m US users and 194 million page views? That's like 4.7 page views per person per month. It's a meaningless average though since the vast majority of the 41 million must only view one page, and Spiders PageView looks at 153 million pages per month.

Yeah, those are dogshit retention/engagement numbers.

Did you mean Imgur

1 week ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

1 week ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 7

insert .gif prononciation giffy clip here 😜

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Its only imgur if you are in user sub. Otherwise its just sparkling facebook memes.

1 week ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

... with a much better comment section.

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sparkling Facebook memes is the counterfeit product.
It's Sparkling Reddit for the proper stuff.

Is the g pronounced as the g in gif, or as the g in gif?

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What's kinda sad is that we used to have hundreds of millions of users. They killed off the user base and are bragging about having a small fraction of what there used to be.

1 week ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 0

In 2022, there were 300 million. Business Daddy destroyed almost 87% of the user base in just 3 years.

1 week ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

But what are all of those users using instead?

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have no idea.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In slight fairness, this specifies their US userbase, and I can't imagine the US had 300 million users.

1 week ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

They also specified their total user base as 81 million. So ok, then “just” quartered their user base.

1 week ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"Only" destroyed 75% of their user base in 3 years. Not much of an improvement.

Where did those users go?

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

From what i can find, they started going to reddit when reddit started hosting it's own images, and the share has been gradually shifting more that way for about 8 years, now.

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, it was inevitable that most of the users were ghost users from reddit, but I found it funny either way.

My wife used Imgur for a while

The sexual theme days turned her off. She got 2 weeks in and was like every day there are theme days that are just pictures of women

My wife is a modern feminist, but fishnets, redheads, and huge tits just aren’t her thing.

Some of this is the fault of the Imgur community. You can’t make a community that is simultaneously super progressive while it posts so much “male gaze” content, while also not being willing to engage in conversation about any of it.

1 week ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Imgur really needs to force tags on that stuff and create a filter so you can turn it off.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

god so much this. i'm a guy and the sheer amount of thirst posting on here is gross. you want to post pictures of yourself? absolutely, you should do that. but sharing your private collection of non-nude porn you've collected from instagram is just fucking weird. i can find my own porn, thanks

also every time i say something like this i get downvoted to hell for "not respecting the community's traditions" or some dumb bullshit like that

Ezakly

1 week ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Part of the downvotes is people can block all that content by not allowing mature content, you have to take extra steps to allow it in the first place.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You said both that you have to take steps to block it and that you have to take steps to allow it. Both can’t be true, and the latter is the one that is false

Blocking tags doesn’t work when people don’t tag things. Plus, you have to be logged in to block anything. If you’re a lurker and are deciding whether to join, that content can affect your decision

Might be time to accept that “titty Tuesday” and “thigh high Thursday” are actually just cringy and weird, not special and cool.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have to agree. Male, hetero, in loving relationship. It often looked like lots of silly little boys lived here. Objectifying women is not cool. Judging people is not cool. Being cool with everybody is cool. every---body. cool?

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck off. You're lucky if theres more than 35k users left on here

1 week ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 43

This motherfucker doesn't understand the distinction between users and visitors.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but they all visit 2500 times a month.

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Visitors =/= active users

Say you don't know how to use Google analytics without saying you don't know how to use Google Analytics

1 week ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

This reply says you first and foremost don't even know what Google Analytics is.
And the most hilarious thing is that at least 24 people (atm) also have no idea and upvoted out of total ignorance

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

As someone who did SEO for five years, using Google Analytics to, among other things, do A/B testing for landing pages and calculating bounce rates and the effects of various advertising impacts on site traffic and conversion rates, tiny octopus is very familiar with this stuff. Admittedly, it was from 2009-2014, before Google went full evil, when Alexa was still around.

That being said, the initial estimate of ~35k users is way off base, and that was the point tiny octopus was making.

1 week ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also, you're telling them that they don't know how to use someone that you didn't just use to confirm what you upheld (regardless of the fact that you couldn't use it at all, unless you manage Imgur), but that you last used over 10 years ago.
This whole thing has streaks of genius all over it
Like a kid who jumps into a discussion taking one random side just to pick on the other guy, despote not even knowing what's being discussed

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh look. Site metrics. Sorry. Say you don't know how to use *checks jpeg* similarweb without saying you know how to use similarweb.

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who did that, you don't know that Google Analytics can only be used by who manages the site.
Sassily telling a random user "you don't know how to use it to see Imgur's stats" is like telling them to buy a yacht with Zuckerberg's credit card credentials.
And dumb people keep upvoting fake competence while downvoting reality.
Fantastic

1 week ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Now that is the case. Before they shuttered Alexa, seeing site traffic was really easy. And seeing landing page metrics even if you didn't own the site was readily available as well. Heck, it's still easy to see basic site metrics from other places. Wait. Is Semrush still a thing?
