I found it in a creek in central Iowa after some moderate rain on an inside bank (point bar alluvial bank) I want to say that it’s a coral but that’s just a google informed guess at this point

Halysite maybe? Ordovician/Silurian period would be about right for Iowa being coastal waters and that looks like the right tabulate shape.
