Why... wouldn't it be able to shake the dust off all the time just to make sure there was no dust on it... otherwise, if it's so covered in dust ... It can't clean itself. They KNEW it was going to sit dormant...wtf?

I mean it was made in China I guess we'll need to send somebody to reboot it

Made in China
duktayp
or maybe .... a drone helicopter dropped a rock on it?
Krytture
Or it's a martian experiment now

Why not design it with a reserve power feature that is used specifically for de-hibernation functions, like shaking off dust.
Krytture
Perfect!
SpaceWeatherMan
Because the power expenditure wouldn’t be able to feasible to maintain. It good in theory but poorly thought out.

Like a window on a bathroom stall to see if anyone is in the bathroom.
Krytture
You have the option of knocking or asking or checking for feet. This is nothing like that, completely blind, can't pop the door and check.
Krytture
But, if it's going to sit turned off and need X generated power to turn back on.. and yet it's covered in dust...so can't...Whats the point?
Krytture
Why wouldn't it just vibrate every few days for a few seconds or when expected power gets low enough, or, when temp reaches X, vibrate.
Krytture
If they hard coded those two requirements, temp and current power input, they screwed up hard.
Krytture
If they knew they were going to power down, they could have also just programmed in some form of, flip the wings, then flip back on X day.
Aceman56
What would be better. Is that ,part of the wakeup cycle, code in "vibrate the solars for a good 30 seconds".
