Setting the jumper wrong causes the USB to TTL adapter to set itself to neither 3.3v nor 5v.

I didn't measure what voltage it was supplying, but I'd guess it resulted in at least 2 amps. It melted the Dupont connectors together.

Surprisingly, it didn't destroy the ESP32 that I was trying to program.

Yeah, both the ESP32 and the USB-TTL converter work after taking enough amps to melt the plastic!
