Crewless phonograph disk tank snippet from Popular Mechanics depicting a crewless Renault FT

Popular Mechanics, a magazine geared towards science and technology including military development, would feature an article in the November 1934 issue about a Renault FT that can be remotely controlled using phonograph disks. The idea of remote-controlled vehicles had been an increasing trend among the eccentric, and it had been discovered that phonograph disks could be used to achieve some crewless effect on different types of vehicles.

1934 seems a bit late for both using a phonograph for programming and a Renault FT. I’d expect to see this in a 1918 popular mechanics.

Use what you've got lying around I guess.
