It needs to be said again, apparently: Conservatives define "love" differently. Everything in their paradigm is related to status in the hierarchy. Look at their religious tenets and their language. For a woman, love is obedience. To a child, it means fear. To a man, it means control. To an outsider (anyone not straight, cis, white) it means capitulation or obiesance. Dolly violated that by showing compassion to the outsider class.

Generational abuse like this is passed down, I tend to think of it as a parasite. It wants to spread, it can and will change host behaviors to make this happen, it suppresses immune responses (literally and figuratively), it's almost always passed down from parents to young, it tries to remain unseen, the list goes on. I'm not religious, but in my head the idea of "original sin" is more aptly the first person to abuse another and start this cycle, to create this behavioral parasite.

And since theirs is a worldview of absolute black and white, Heaven and Hell with nothing in between, they believe that anything they do, however hurtful, is ultimately justified if it can terrify someone into joining their religion and avoiding Hell.
