"The cuts won't affect VA care" --Liars, crooks and cheats

Although I'm a Vet this isn't about me, but another Veteran. Female Vets (I include my trans sisters; I see you) make up only 11% Vets so it's easier to cut our care. This is the beginning of privatization, a goal for Project 2025 (as well as cutting off disability benefits.) Right now, Veterans can chose Community Care if: the closest VA provider is too far, the facility lacks the speciality care needed, wait times are too long or the Vet's disability prevents travel to the VA facility and care can be given closer to the Vet. Thanks, Obama, for making that happen even though Trump takes credit for it. Community Care was initially administered by the VA, until 2018, when Trump outsourced & privatized regional care administration to TriWest (a private healthcare org) and Optum, a United Healthcare subsidiary.
When VA care is fully privatized, there will be a line to suck up tax dollars, increase prices and start denying care. Today VA Community Care reimburses at Medicare rates and isn't "declined" if the Veteran followed the correct processes. (Note: VA Care and Community Care are not the same as TriCare insurance which is for Retirees and Spouses.)
The saddest thing about closing these clinics and hospitals is local outpatient clinics are where veterans find community and can give back to others. Veterans volunteer in the facilities because they get a sense of meaning and purpose to life. They also have coffee gatherings or befriend other Veterans who are sitting around waiting for appointments or standing in line. Once out of the military, it's really the ONLY Veterans community gathering spot in our own areas (unless we drink and hang out at VFWs, etc.) For me, I love seeing the former war Veterans in their red-helper vests. I go out of my way to talk to them, to check in on them and keep them from becoming too isolated. The VA provides many volunteer programs outside of the clinics but they are generally all advertised there. You find out a lot just sitting in the waiting areas and reading program brochures.
I worry about what clinic closures mean for our Vets and their family members when we are all dispersed into community care providers and lose our band of brother and sisterhood. We also lose caregivers who understand Veterans and that is something that is profoundly depressing to me. I am grateful for those who serve the ones who served.
