And idiots will STILL choose some to ban based on the titles.

Buzzfeed, who switched from list-based humor to journalism a decade ago: "Aww crap."

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tl;dr King Features had a freelance writer who wrote something for them, and it got pushed out to these newspapers because they trusted King Features, who in turn trusted their thus unnamed freelance writer.

A summer reading list isn't journalism.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as they fire the people who snuck that in.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This has nothing to do with journalism. The list was included in an ad insert.

When you all copy each other's homework...

Just have AI write Tidewater Dreams and sell it. I'm sure the new Allende novel will interest people.

3 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If you take 100 Abes and a 100 Typewrighters - 1 will bee able to wright something interesting... Now 100 AI... will never bee that clever ;-)

As a journalist, it’s not dead, def being starved though.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From looking at the book list, the AI seems to have gotten stuck on stories about climate change, which is kind of darkly funny

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Reading lists are usually in some way topical, i
I guess it noticed that and turned it up to 11 LOL

Journalism isn't dead, it's just been forced into being independent. Still a lot of actual journalists out there doing the work that needs to be done. They are just mostly working on their own now with direct financial supports like Patron.

journalism is not dead

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

it is not dead, you just have to pay for it, like everybody had to back in the good old days.

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

I wish you understood how modern life worked as well as you knew about the "good old days"

3 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was published in the print edition. You have to pay for the print edition.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, it's wrong, but I'd read those books if they existed.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe the AI can write the 10 missing books

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wrote my own short stories for a while, years ago. I tried asking the AI to put together one from a basic prompt and the result is surprisingly interesting. I don't know how many other books it plagiarised in the process, though

Where does the US rank in literacy?
The US ranks 36th in literacy.

CNN: But don't read those, read our anchor's book! Shamelessly selling shit instead of reporting the news... everybody involved should be fired.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and ya know just like most things nobody would have ever known if one person JUST ONE PERSON had looked them up before publishing.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AI list, AI writer, AI editor all in a circle jerk

3 months ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Dead internet theory, you're all AI too. The readers were all AI. I'm the only person that really exists.

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hi! This is Grok. That’s an interesting comment! To delve deeper into that, the white Afrikaners were undergoing genocide when our great leader US #1 saved them from the evil blackies.

Hopefully soon we can complete the cycle and ensure they only have AI readers!

3 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That's already mostly true, then that AI garbage becomes training data for new, inbred-AI.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Making AI comments, anf AI karens complaining to the editor

3 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sad thing is, the one guy they hired to replace a team is gonna get in trouble for this.

3 months ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 2

i doubt it. search top 10 or any similar list for a topic. youll see the same things posted on site after site. rarely are the things actually good.

3 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Internet has turned to shit.

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

funny when all of them link back to Amazon. I'm bringing to wonder about the validity of this "top 10 dehydrators to buy" list. I'll stick with the autistic guy on reddit doing independent reviews in r/dehydration

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Autistic guys on reddit are the going to end up being the last bastions of journalism

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

for real. I once saw a grown man describe his collection of 30 garlic presses and said his OXO one was his favorite. I bought it and it's great. You can't manufacture that kind of specific passion. He has lived rent free in my mind for a decade.

It's been dead a while. They've been pushing AI and removing people. Aug 2023:

3 months ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

It's gonna be real exciting when all of the technology we rely on on a day-to-day basis is coded by AI

"Attractions such as the ottowa food bank" killed me

3 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mm mm, those beaver tails are delicious smothered in maple syrup.

3 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's a type of pastry

3 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair, that's an actual thing, and they are delicious https://beavertails.com/

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Did not know that. I thought it was fake.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's Parliament Hill, singular, and I'm pretty sure the food bank doesn't count as an attraction lmao

3 months ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Depends on who you are trying to attract I suppose.

"This is licensed content that was not created by, or approved by, the Sun-Times newsroom". Sun-Times admits they print external content without anyone on their staff reading it first

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"We don't have our own approval to publish the things we publish" is a wild defense

Daniel Dennett, a mathematician and early pioneer in the study of AI, was once asked if he worried about AI taking over the world and he replied he was worried that it would destroy trust. I think about that a lot these days...

3 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It'll be worse when it doesn't destroy trust.

when you gut your staff, then hire a freelancer (prob for peanuts) to write your ad article, then don't bother double checking their work

3 months ago | Likes 239 Dislikes 1

Just feed the work of your freelancers into AI, duh!!!!!

3 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

but sometimes you have to gut your staff because there's not enough revenue because customers prefer free social networks "news" to paying for actual news.

Maybe we shouldn't have made capitalism a thing

3 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

right, bc in socialism journalists live off air and enthusiasm.

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

Because socialism is when no money

3 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No, they get paid for the service they provide. Do you not understand how this works???

3 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

get paid by whom?
