Because he brought to light that the DOT and the Big Three ignored research they'd done into seat belt safety, airbags, and many other factors. He was producing a stainless steel car with a 25 year guarantee against rust, while pointing out many automakers were using cheap metal, and even though the cost of the car was fairly high, he wasn't able to keep up with demand and looking for investors. The US gov't tried to sabotage everything he did, including passing emissions restrictions ...1/2>
