FUCK ICE
https://www.amny.com/news/brad-lander-arrested-ice-court-hearing-06172025/
City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested and accosted by masked federal agents at immigration court in Lower Manhattan.
The city’s elected financial watchdog, and a Democratic candidate for mayor, appeared at 26 Federal Plaza on the morning of June 17 to observe immigration hearings involving individuals marked for potential deportation.
Lander’s arrest, which amNewYork observed, occurred as the comptroller and his staff walked arm-in-arm with an immigrant whom federal agents — representing ICE, the FBI, and the Treasury Department, each of whom was wearing masks to conceal their faces — moved to seize after a court hearing. Moments earlier, the immigrant had their case dismissed pending further appeal.

No face, no badge, no warrant? NO AUTHORITY HERE

I said it before: This smells like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1932_Prussian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat incoming
Filanwizard
In a good world, NYPD would have arrested those people for assaulting a city official. Maybe even tazed a few
EgregiousMisnomer
We need to dispense with this notion that there is some difference between local Police, Federal police, and even military.

While I understand your sentiment, there 100% is

Rendition.

Rip their masks off.
TofuGolem
America is a fascist shithole.
DesdemonaMoor
Friendly reminder: The Gestapo's primary mission was to combat all "tendencies inimical to the State". This included anyone deemed a political opponent, religious dissenter, homosexual, or Jew, all of whom were considered threats to the Nazi regime.
throwaway12345432
So y'all just going to sit there while they assassinate and arrest any democrats who speak against them?
woozle
encrypteddecryption
Anyone else struck by the non-caucasianness of the ICE officers with and without masks?
djangojazz
So basically ICE kidnaps people unlawfully and unlawfully kidnaps people that call them on it. I am amazed there hasn't been violence against ICE yet.
FrankPembleton
When are you Americans going to realize you can't legislate away the evil right wing. You can't shame them into doing the right thing. Get your fucking heads out of the sand and come up with a plan to stop them before it's too late
HonestCommentFarmer
Lander is currently running for mayor. I'm not saying anything by this, just pointing it out.
Tezerah1
The Gestapo. 0.001% of the population terrorizing 300,000,000 of us.
Beardedgeek72
Point: It is a bigger deal that he is the comptroller than that he is a mayoral candidate. This headline does the right thing and focuses on the fact that ICE kidnapped the actual comptroller of NYC.
Krenshar52
He's a duly elected official, a US citizen, and is running for Mayor - a democratic candidate currently running for office. I think all three are actually super important because this could very easily turn into election interference. I don't think this incident was intended for that purpose, but it won't be hard to turn it into that or to "accidentally" detain other democratic candidates
Mostlydeadpool
So they have masks now. everyone knows that star wars was NOT supposed to be a documentary, right?
SirKaill
We are well past the point of being the polite left, this shit is getting more stupid and dangerous by the day.
CrimsonPermanentAssurance
The funny thing is the Left has never been polite; that's Liberals
echinocereus
New York is a largely democratic state. Are you telling me that no one is going to be able to do anything about these thugs with their antics? Every day we wait to forcefully oppose these incidents, the closer we get a full blown autocratic rule with constitution dissolved.
quzar
This article is literally about someone doing something about these thugs and their antics.
IncognitoEnthusiast
And this is a federal 'arrest', the dems have no federal power since the voters handed the country over last November. There is nothing politically that can be done any more. And don't think things aren't being done, just last week there was a post on here of NY folks backing ice back into their building because they refused to let them out on the streets.
nesurame
Hypothetically speaking, someone could follow ICE back to wherever they're operating out of and get license plate numbers of the vehicles parked there. There are a lot of clever ways to take advantage of having someones license plate number, but I'll leave that as an exercise for the reader.
cambriago13
Arrested... or kidnapped? Unlawful detention is not an arrest.
captainhappen
Federal law enforcement does have the right to arrest someone interfering with an arrest. That's the argument they're probably going to make. Interestingly, in several jurisdictions, you can be convicted of resisting / interfering with an arrest EVEN IF the initial arrest is later found to be unlawful!
CraftyGiant
ICE CANNOT arrest or detain citizens legally.
CrimsonPermanentAssurance
I didn't see federal law enforcement in that picture
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Not in New York. The law here explicitly prohibits the arrest of anyone in, traveling to, or coming from a courthouse, unless there is a signed judicial warrant specific to the arrest of that person.
Arkandos
Because Americans have always loved authoritarianism
notsureofanything
ICE cannot detain US citizens period. They are not police and they are not homeland security. They did not have a warrant. But they will get pardoned by Trump
override367
as he was trying to explain to them, an administrative warrant doesn't give them the power to do much at all
factcheckmate
He repeatedly asked for judicial warrant and thats when they escalated. Because they knew they had no grounds for arrest
andwings2go
That’s fucked up, the “we are always right even if we’re wrong” clause.
Sageypie
Right up there with arresting somebody solely on the charge of "resisting arrest"
andwings2go
I’ve seen this personally. “Why did you look at me and go the other way?” Uhhh, cause y’all do shit just like this.
Mairoa
My favorite moment of forensic files was after these cops spent hours letting the killer get away bc they were focused on some kid who tried to evade them. Clinical voiceover: "When asked why he ran if he was innocent, the young man stated he was afraid he'd be unfairly targeted by police because he was Black. ..... He was right."
Isorikk
Well the law is that you're not supposed to interfere with law enforcement personnel regardless of if you think it's right or wrong. If you think it's wrong, fighting with the police is also wrong, the correct action is to fight the arrest in court. Two wrongs don't make a right.
AFewStupidDogs
Fuck those pigs, and fuck you, bootlicking collaborator.
ayers231
This assumes the case will go to court. That assumption can no longer be held based on recent history.
Isorikk
Ironically, the best action would still be to use the courts and sue the government for violating your rights. Barring that, it's pretty much just a lawless land, and the only solution gets rather violent
andwings2go
Exactly, idk if elected or not, but that’s what this city official was doing.
nclu
"Brad Lander, mayoral candidate, abducted by unidentified group of men"
OhIfIMust
Exactly. They're not "Masked Federal Agents," they're masked goons CLAIMING to be federal agents, while providing no proof whatsoever to support that claim.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
To be clear: In New York, it is unlawful to arrest someone in, going to, or coming from a courthouse, unless the arresting officer has a signed judicial warrant.
Krenshar52
And he got arrested for trying to protect an immigrant just for asking to see the signed judicial warrant
Safflower777
Definitely targeted & assaulted. Cuz that's the REPs/MAGA/FACISTS #1 move now:( Any American who is ok w this outrageous & reprehensible behavior needs to be their next kidnapped victim.....
alittleglassvial
This entire photo is wild. Great capture for the photographer.
KAPTKipper
Masked men kidnapping people. Governments workers shouldn't be masked
Nikazone
Public servants should not be allowed to wear masks
CaldariBob
Someone needs to start ripping off masks.
Fynndango
California lawmakers just introduced legislation that would make it illegal for any law enforcement in the state to wear a mask
Manfredjinsinjin
Including those participating at no kings protests as well.

I'm so glad the boot lickers are so vocal of who they are.
jerusalemspider
aw lookit the little nazi collaborator
MeatPopsicleMultiPass
Umkontodon
A BIG FAT NO, citizens have the right to wear what they want, who the F are you to tell someone else they shouldn't wear a mask. Cops are public servants wielding lot of power and should be kept in check so they don't cross the line and ride the power trip train
chicharrone
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't OUR taxes pay these Gestapo people? And aren't we a government FOR the people by the people???
MentalUproar
In what way are no kings protestors a threat?
LtRooney
Aww... look at at the little fascist troll. Say a kind "fuck off" to the troll, everyone.
HitandRyan
Protesters are not law enforcement. It’s debatable if ICE goons are enforcing laws or just the whims of one fat would-be king.
CrimsonPermanentAssurance
It's debatable most of these people we're hearing about are even ICE goons. NO uniforms, no badges, no faces, no paperwork
HitandRyan
Yeah how do you distinguish these ICE guys from kidnappers?
SirVG
Leithoa
Thanks for raising your hand.
kerms
Don't you have a curb to be biting, Nazi?
diezl97
What masks? Every one of 'em I saw last weekend was proud to show their face and take a stand against the unAmerican Trump admin.
Midgarmerc
Man that comment history is something else. 3 years ago you posted like a rational normal person then disappeared for 2 years and now you're a bootlicking MAGA fascist. Get your account hacked... or was it your brain?
Aurentis
Doesn't matter. In either case, the thing behind the account is garbage to be disposed of.
FDMack
CaldariBob
Apples and oranges, unless the protestors have been invested with the power and authority of the state. Have the protestors been invested with the power and authority of the state?
Lexgeddon
Man, that would make things a lot easier.
mybuddyeric
False equivalency
Aurentis
Just a troll. They're not interested in arguments, just rage.
Anamesolongnoonecouldhavepossiblychosenit2
Gestapo is here, looking like heading this off before it gets too bad is not so much an option anymore
fractalsphere
This isn't a cop. THIS IS THE GESTAPO
HelikaformerNubisKnight9
Nah, Gestapo didn't were masks. Thats the Trumstato.

Hold up a warrant, a business card, and a badge or I’m unloading on whoever attempts to come through the door.

This is the left currently "allowing it to be."
PineappleLooopsBrOether
One of them executed dem lawmakers in their own homes, so fuck no. It's time.
UncleMartha
...and if it turns bloody, their defense will be "now look what you made me do!"
IncognitoEnthusiast
Yeah not remotely, there are plenty of stories where things are already getting violent. They are purposefully going to places they know won't end poorly. Don't let them control the narrative.
literallymike
I'm talking about the fact that NO accountability is in the foreseeable future. I don't mean "actual" blood. But it is getting to that point. Political violence is political violence, regardless of whether there's literal bloodshed. Mike Lee gets a stern talking to after MOCKING AN ASSASINATED STATE REP?! GMAFB.
Krenshar52
What exactly are you trying to say here? Take as many comments as you need to explain this, because your comment currently comes across as contradicting itself
IncognitoEnthusiast
Krenshar52
"yeah not remotely" - sounds like you're saying there's no revolution, that maga isn't trying to take over the country.
“There are plenty of stories where things are already getting violent” - could be either maga talking point about how LA is supposedly a disaster zone or calling out maga for making things violent.
1/
Krenshar52
“They are purposefully going to places they know won't end poorly” - maybe a typo on your part, but sounds like you're supporting the ICE raids, “places they know will not end poorly” very easily read as “places they know they can kidnap people freely”
“Don't let them control the narrative” - again could go either way, as both sides are literally using those exact words to claim that LA is on fire and that the protests are largely peaceful.
2/
GerbilHereReportingLiveFromRichardGeresAss
So if you don't resist - that's bad.
If you resist - also bad.
What's the winning strategy then?
IncognitoEnthusiast
I never said either of those things, nor was it inferred. Good job.
mouseasw
Resist. The oppressors will label your actions bad regardless, we're all better off fighting oppression.
torp
How do we know they were federal agents ?
skapanda616
Mostly by the lack of accountability.
Blakeadelic
Imagine what would happen to any of us if we tried to enter a court wearing a mask (other than a medical one.)
peedrinkingcrapface
after live-testing their civilian terrorism program on the long-groomed scapegoat of brown immigration, the first logical expansion of this gestapo's reach might not actually be other marginalized minorities (blacks, gays, trans, etc), as we have largely assumed, but to the class of political and legal professionals who publicly represent and defend brown immigration, especially in New York and California.
EgregiousMisnomer
Well said, peedrinkingcrapface.
Demagur
ICE court? Don't you mean Volksgerichtshof?
